Dude your so correct, I had the same trouble with the stock AS3X Timber!! Swapped out for the Orangerx with flight stab. Totally wigged out on me midair TWICE!!! 2 propellers later, I got rid of it. I put my CG dead in the middle, so my crashes are suttle angles. Got a Lemon with satellite and flight stab. AND also a Futaba receiver that cost more than I care to mention with stabilizer GPS fly home, auto pilot and FPV. NO MORE DISCONNECTS!!! I will have a buddy monitoring my receiver signal strength first take off. The TIMBER gets the high dollar stuff. The lemon is going into a homemade HUGE STOL coroplast 10 foot wing span with Articulating landing gear---project. I will post my results. But I you go down as one of the "Real Reporters" in my archives, We are with very few company saying it like it is about the Orange receivers. The AS3X? Well the software inside crashed, It won’t even bind. Re flashed it and got it back but minus "SAFE" select. They will not supply us with the DAT file to restore the unit back to stock "TIMBER" settings. You have to hack the code. For that and the added expense of a USB connector and windows computer [which I hate] I have shelved the AS3X idea for good. There are far better "Auto" pilot gadgets out there that don't need a computer to tinker with them. The Lemon of course is for the Spektrum Radio Control.

Thanks cowboy6591 I appreciate your comments. I've learned a lot since my "early days" of RC flight, but Lemon-Rx has never let me down, that I can pinpoint, but Orange HAS most definitely. I would love to play with the AS3X stuff...but I can't bring myself to spend that kinda cash for an Rx....that's whole plane kinda cash!!! Lemon-Rx is excellent, if you're using DSM2 or DSMX...but FASST, maybe they'll do one some day ;)

That's a real bummer. Have you talked with Horizon Hobby yet? Have you run range tests to see how far you can go back? Is there an antenna broken off on the Rx??? You can have it OFF...one of the ONLY bad features about this rig...I want to be able to FORCE IT ON, then use the MASTER GAIN on channel 8 to "turn it off, but turning it DOWN..." This Rx is great, but you gotta play with it and use Bind Plug for the last usable channel (channel 7 - Aux 2) and Aux3 is MASTER GAIN.

You can also assign certain Tx inputs to certain output channels on the Rx to save the trouble of having to enter all those mixes. I can do that with my Dx9 but I can't remember if that version of the Dx8 is capable.

Hi Brian, I'm in the process of setting up a Hobbyking Mini Skysword.. a plane that has plenty of internal wall space but not much internal floor space (the 4S 3000mAh Lipo pretty much uses up the floor real estate). I intend on using a Lemon RX 7-Ch Diversity Stab / Receiver and I'm trying to avoid messing with Mixes if possible. Would it be safe to say that if I mount my Lemon RX sideways to the inner wall, that my Aileron Gain Settings would remain the same, but if I had to adjust the sensitivity of the Elevator, then I would have to make adjustments turning the Rudder Pot, and if I had to adjust the sensitivity of the Rudder, then I would make adjustments turning the Elevator Pot?

YES, BUT you still need to reassign the control channels too, otherwise you'll be controlling the wrong axis with each stick... This is SUPER easy with a newer Spektrum Tx...are you running a DX9? I was running an older DX8, so that's why it was such a pain in this setup.

@genes67036 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, can you explain what a satellite receiver is? Can't seem to figure this one out. thanks
@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
Sure Gene! It's a redundant Receiver without all the outputs to the servo channels. The signal is redundantly passes back into the main receiver and then the main receiver monitors and decides between which signal it perceives is more viable. This works similar to a diversity antenna (two antenna vs just one), except that there's actually another small circuit. The main advantage of a satellite over a simpler diversity antenna, or a satellite in addition to a diversity antenna, is that you will be looking radio waves at a different location, thus dramatically reducing the chances of a full signal loss. I prefer to use a diversity antenna like this... Lemon-Rx 7Ch DSMX Rx w/ Stabilizer + Diversity Antenna - amzn.to/2GTlQze VS a Satellite rx like this... Lemon-Rx 7Ch DSMX Rx w/ Stabilizer + Satellite - amzn.to/2F8f3Se ...simply because it is smaller and a few bucks less, but the money is not really the factor for me now. I know that I run a higher risk of a signal loss, so I'm very careful to point my antenna at 90 degrees of each other, to maximize the signal that will be picked up at any given position. Watch this excerpt of one of my videos to see what I'm doing to help you see the 90 degrees difference in position (watch to see what I built to hold the Rx Antennas)... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKfcoqeIbJp4bKsm57s ...hope this helps!

@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks the rx600sp does have great reviews..i am going to learn more about it...i have lemon rx 7 ch stab...any tips on setting gains? where to start etc? thanks again...
@BrianPhillipsRC5 жыл бұрын
Set the gains ALL the way up, and set a knob for the "master gain"...then when you take off, you can have the stabilizer "low" and increase to your desired setting. Keep in mind you'll have potential for oscillation, which can easily be mitigated by making a "Kill switch" for the stabilizer too. I prefer to setup the switches in the same position as I'd use for SAFE, when equipped. This way I can get used to the same spot for a speedy correction. I've also found it's smart to get your gains worked out on the first couple flights, then you can leave your "knob" at the same general position, so you don't take off your next plane and have an unexpected, severe oscillation.

Brian, How come when I am in the self leveling mode and when I turn the gains down most of the way, it affects the ability to use the ailerons. In other words when the gains are turned low the sticks don't move the ailerons. But only in self leveling mode. Is this normal. thanks.
@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
I have to assume you have something goofed up. Since I don't have the Rx you're using, I can't say for 100% certain. I really want to help you out, and feel your pain, but since I don't know what's going on, I'd only be able to recommend, playing with the MASTER GAIN / STABILIZER ON/OFF/ AUTO-LEVEING ON/OFF channel until you get the desired results.
@genes67036 жыл бұрын
I'm using the lemon rx, but it happens on both. When you put yours in self leveling mode and turn your gains all the way down, you still have control of your ailerons with the sticks? thanks
@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
To directly answer your question, yes I can always overwhelm my Rx's stabilization control with my aileron inputs...ALWAYS...but since we're not dealing with the same device... What you're refereeing to is the 7 Channel with "stablizerPLUS" or what Lemon-Rx calls DSMP, even though it's still DSM2/DSMX (aka Spektrum's preferred radio protocol)... This is also the one that MotionRC contracted with Lemon-Rx to build under their Admiral lineup, which I'm also not familiar with, since I haven't got one. I think there are some bugs in BOTH auto-leveling varieties, so I have not recommended this choice, especially for beginners. This has been my ONLY complaint with Lemon-Rx gear to date, that and their stupid "green" packaging that allows the cheap cases to be damaged from time to time. Still VERY good track record for a low price point! I'm not using the auto-leveing type, except for in one plane, the 2225mm ST Model Arcus M...on which I only ever used the stabilizer, as I had nothing but problems with the auto-leveling... I don't encourage anyone to use the auto-leveling feature, as I've experienced twice where the Rx attempted to auto-level, then it reset the Rx after it was unable to bring the plane to home/level position quick enough. What I'm flying is the 7 Channel with Stabilization, DSM2/DSMX, which is why I keep saying, I don't know for certain, but I have to assume there's something to do with your stabilizer on/off, which is the same channel for toggling between auto-leveling on and off....since I don't have this piece of equipment, I can't answer for you, even though I'd love to answer for you.
@genes67036 жыл бұрын
Brian Phillips appreciate your answer, but it’s happening with the lemon that you recommended. On the lemon when I turn the gains down the sticks don’t move the control surfaces. It doesn’t make sense that the gains setting affects the control surfaces. But it only happens in auto level. Isn’t auto level feature the same as the safe in spektrum? Maybe I’ll have to call lemon. Thanks for the help
@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
Gene, I'm starting to lose my patience on this one.... SAFE is only available on AS3X receivers, and it's not the same technology as Lemon-Rx, even though they are similar... AS3X (artificial stabilization three axis) is Spectrum branded stabilization. It's gain can't typically be controlled while in flight, unless you go with the highest level AS3X receivers, which will set you back hundreds of dollars per system...and they are VERY complex. SAFE (sensor aided flight envelope) is Spektrum branded auto leveling, which has AS3X as it's basis for auto-leveling. It's a lot more sophisticated than Lemon-Rx's technology, which is evident in how much better it works, but it's also a lot more expensive, so I only get it in my BNF planes, and don't need SAFE anymore, but it was a MUST-HAVE when I was learning to fly. I will say this again, and don't want to keep going back and forth, I DO NOT RECOMMEND Lemon-Rx StabilizerPlus receivers...these are the ones that supposedly support Auto-Leveling...because I have had problems with them. I DO RECOMMEND, love, and use all the time, the Lemon-Rx 7 Channel with Stabilization. They LOOK almost exactly the same, but they are not the same. See the below excerpt from my description list (common on many of my videos, but not in all of my videos)... 7Ch DSMX Rx,Stab,DivAnt - amzn.to/2GTlQze (

Glad you're enjoying my videos! We're glad to have you here! If you want the stabilizer to work properly, you'll just swap the elevator and rudder into the "other" port, then set up a "swap" in your transmitter. It would have been pretty easy in my DX18, but this was filmed when I was still flying with my DX8, where you had to do a bunch of "mixes" an "un-mixes" to make it work the right way. Just make 100% certain you have it right before you launch your Calypso. It WILL work, but takes a bit of trial and error to get it right, Good luck Edgar!

Hey Brian, I know you’ve answered this a few times, but my dumb butt is still confused. I know that As3x is custom to horizon products, as well as SAFE. My question like others who have asked, is there any comparison to SAFE with the lemon? I’m still getting back into the hobby and find SAFE to be an amazing component for beginners. I’m just curious if I should stick to horizon, or specktrum. Recievers that have safe? Unless Lemon offers a comparable stabilization system to SAFE, I would not yet feel comfortable dying with it just yet - not to say that once my skills get better I won’t be using lemon. Do you know of any recievers that offer something similar to SAFE for a cheaper price than a specktrum rx? If not, maybe that is something I need to try and invent! I am in love with the SAFE options on my currre rx’s, but not in love with the price..lol. Anyway, any feedback greatly appreciated as ALWAYS!
@BrianPhillipsRC5 жыл бұрын
Yes Lemon-Rx has Stabilization Plus...but buyer be ware...I don't think it works :( At least I didn't have good luck with it at all! It's their take on "auto-leveling" but Keep in mind, when you finally start to get off of SAFE, AS3X is super similar to other stabilizers, like what Lemon-Rx and Eagle Tree A3, A3-L, Orange, etc... Yeah, there's some other Flight Controllers, like for drones that will do auto-leveling (like SAFE) but I don't like the more complicated setup. If you want SAFE, Horizon Hobby makes a great product, it's just definitely NOT cheap!!!

@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's what I do! I would strongly encourage you to get the Lemon-Rx 7 Channel with stabilization, and NOT the auto-leveling (AKA Lemon-Rx 7 Chanel with StabilizerPlus), since I feel that the setup on the Stabilization is a bit easier. (Buy THIS one... amzn.to/2GTlQze ...which is the one without AUTO-Leveling, but you still get the actually very good stabilizer...like AS3X) I have done lots of stuff with these Lemon-Rx receivers with stabilization, and I always use the stabilizer. There is a way to keep the stabilizer "ON" all the time, while still using that channel, only keeping the play within the "top half" of the servo range. I did this on my ASH 26, and my Airbus A380. I use ALL the channels, AND I have stab on/off, and master gain. As always you’re always so helpful, thank you so much. I’ve used these lemon RX before based on your videos, but wasn’t sure if I could leave it on like AS3X, on the Carbon Cub 1.3 I pulled the GPS and factory receiver out and used the lemon stab+ one since I had a buddy that his Carbon flew away never to be seen again with GPS enabled, 😆

That GPS crap is a HUGE pain in the but! Not only is it extremely difficult to figure out, but I hate even more when you're flying along, and the plane is like "NOPE I'm GONNA GO OVER HERE NOW!" The idea is a cool idea, but Geo-fencing is like giving your cell phone full control of your car, when all you want is the GPS to tell you where to exit the interstate.

Good Luck! I hope you love them as much as I do! 1) Make sure you have a shut off or mater gain setup and ready to go. If you start to oscillate, you can turn it off, or turn it down quickly! 2) Make sure when you pre-flight, the ailerons go up when you lift up the wing. If you haven't spent much time with stabilizers, double, and triple check that all control surfaces move contrary to the direction you move it...it they move the same way you move the wing/elevator...you WILL CRASH!!!!

Hi Brian,love your videos on Lemon RX. I was wondering if you can help me? I can't figure out how to set the auto level. I want auto level only when the gear are down and can't find how to do that. Thx, Pat
@BrianPhillipsRC7 жыл бұрын
I don't think the auto-level works well at all on the Lemon-RX stabilizer-Plus. In fact, and not to be a Debby Downer here, it's the only thing I can find wrong with their lineup. I watched the MotionRC videos, and they are doing to WEIRD stuff, and don't think even they've figured it out yet, but you know how lemon-Rx is..., "well, we don't have a manual. We were hoping you knew how to use it" - LOL Have you at least figured out that the Bind Plug acts as AUX 2? Gear Channel is going to need to be assigned to a 3 position switch. At the top (or bottom) of the throw, you'll have "Auto Leveling", then in the middle, stabilizer, then at the other end, Nothing... You have to switch DELTA and VTAIL to activate the features...even though you're not using Vtail or Delta....you just choose BOTH which means the "stabilizer / auto leveling" are "on" with the GEAR channel. I must warn you, before you get too far along. You may not be able to SHARE the GEAR channel for the landing gear, since you're gonna be in the middle of the throws for a lot of the flight, and most gear will activate above or below center, so you may not have enough differentiation to properly control the gear on the GEAR channel...but no issue there, just use AUX1 (not AUX2). Are you gonna use flapperon support?

Nice video. I installed the Lemon RX7 in my glider and have a couple questions on the way it works. When the stabilizer is turned on the ailerons make a corrections but they go to the max position. I can adjust the sensitivity so it's not such a hard correction. Is this suppose to move the ailerons slowly or snap to the max positions? The elevator does not do this. Am I suppose to turn the switches 4 and 5 to the on position? I've tried that too but no difference. Appreciate the help. Al

Check out this much more recent footage. I'll show HOW to do it, since it's going to be VERY hard to help you figure out what's working or not working based on this info. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHutfJefisyIkLc It's regarding a sail plane, but you can more or less copy the setup exactly, if you wish. Pay special attention to the way I get the control channels to move the surfaces, and which direction...then later, you set gains for each axis, and ultimately, a master gain for all three axis stabilizaiton.

I have airbus a380 can ı use this lemon for my plane same setup
@BrianPhillipsRC8 жыл бұрын
I don't have the Airbus A380, but I've learned a little bit about this RC plane. There are two out there, which make is yours? ...but YES, you can use this receiver for your A380, but it'll be configured differently, depending on if you decide to run the dual elevators with the ailerons like a lot of people do on that model. Since this A380 is a bank and yank (...assuming I'm guessing the right plane) you may want to use the left elevator with the left aileron and the right elevator with the right aileron. This can be accomplished without giving up stabilization, but you have to set up your transmitter as a "regular" plane, then use the "DELTA" dip switch setting. This may disqualify your ability to utilize Flapperons, which would not likely make sense in such a setup, but either way, good luck! If you get me a bit more info, I'll try and help you more specifically. Thanks for watching!

No, none that I can say. Lemon-RX is an excellent value, and I'd highly recommend them. If I were flying a $20,000 plane, I'd probably get a Spektrum receiver, but I'd also die of a heart attack before I could taxi to the runway

Brian, my gyro works great but when I set up the Tx for flaperons and separate the ailerons into 2 channels, only one of the ailerons is working with the gyro. One channel is Aux 1 and the other is the ail in the receiver. How do you get the gyro to work both channels?
@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
Gene Sultan You have to flip the Flapperon Dip switch, as well as the radio system being turned on to Flapperons.

Hey Brian, I put a lemon-rx 7 channel tx in my FW A-10 64mm and the stabilizer seems bit "wobbly" when I'm in the air. When I do a ground test, everything seems to work fine (gyro, auto-level). But the second I get up in the air and engage either of those functions, it seems like the wings get jittery and the plane moves around on its own quite a bit. It doesn't stay level and becomes very difficult to fly. It is way easier and smoother to fly with everything disengaged. Thoughts?
@BrianPhillipsRC7 жыл бұрын
If it's harder to fly with the stabilizer engaged, you have it setup wrong...you might have things backwards...I wonder if you actually have the stabilizer ON and it's flying well, then when you turn in off, it's all of a sudden way more touchy? Also, if the plane oscillates, you just need to change your gain setting for that axis. Let's say you're flying strait and level at 60% throttle, and all is well, when you give it 100% throttle, you notice the wings tip, rolling left, then right, then left, then right, until you slow down...this is a stabilizer oscillation...you'll have to adjust the gain for that axis DOWN, then she'll settle down. You could also just turn down the Master Gain, but that might make the rudder and elevator axis less effective. Setting up the stabilizer is not super simple, but once you get it, it will make flying a whole lot easier.

Hey Brian Does the Lemon Stabilizer PLUS work like "SAFE" or its just like AS3X with availability of a panic option ? Can you recommend an after market gyro that works like "SAFE" ? Thanks
@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
SAFE is Sensor Aide Flight Envelope...AKA Auto Leveling AS3X is Artificial Three Axis Stabilization...AKA Stabilization AS3X is at the heart of SAFE. Without AS3X, SAFE would not be possible. The AS3X system is a Horizon Hobby product. Horizon Hobby uses DSM2 and DSMX, which is their transmission protocol form the Transmitter to the Receiver, even though many manufacturers operate within the 2.4GHz bandwidth. Lemon-Rx is not affiliated with Horizon Hobby in any way but their Recievers are DSM2 or DSMX. Most recently, they've coined the term, DSMPlus...which isn't a thing...it's just DSMX. This DSMPlus is just their "auto-leveling" product (that doesn't work well at all, if you ask me...and I LOVE lemon-rx, btw) Lemon-Rx makes a 7 Channel with Stabilization, and a 7 Channel with Stabilization Plus... The 7 Channel with Stabilization only provides stabilization which works GREAT, while the 7 Channel with Stabilization Plus supposedly provided for Stabilization AND/OR Auto Leveling, that later of which I've not found to work well. If you NEED SAFE (Auto Leveling) Stick to a plane with SAFE or SAFE Select, and when you're ready, stabilization only will be very helpful, and Lemon-Rx will work perfect for you. If you don't need SAFE, then you can use either. P.S. This is a slight over-simplification, but I want to answer your question fully...Panic is just like being in AS3X only (stabilization), and switching to SAFE for a few seconds, with the press of a button...then it goes back to AS3X only (stabilization). I just answered this question for another guy, so I hope you don't mind me copying the reply. This is a loaded question, and it's easier said than done, explaining it ;) Thanks for understanding!

Hi Brian.. So.. I just ordered my new DX8 TX and a 7ch Lemon RX I've reading the manual for the Lemon and with the DX8 I'll have Master Gain capability.. Am I correct assuming the Aux 3 (Ch 8) is an internal ch with in the Lemon Rx? Thanks Grant
@BrianPhillipsRC7 жыл бұрын
Channel 5 (GEAR) toggles on and off Channel 8 (Aux 3) changes the level of MASTER GAIN Please keep in mind, you can still adjust the ailerons vs elevator vs rudder gains, then turn them all up or down nominally with the Master Gain...works well, but I wish I could have gear channel back, since I usually set AUX 3 to +/- 150% to make for a huge variation from nothing to more that you're supposed to get...thus, you can make a mix to turn it off with the flip of a switch, or just use GEAR to turn on and off. One very important hint, as you get ready to start setting this up...set the same switch and knob EVERY TIME, on EVERY MODEL (where you're using these awesome Lemon-RX receivers). This will help you build good muscle memory to turn off the stabilizer quick, and since you'll probably have to pull your hands off the sticks to adjust the master gain, you'll want to have as many factors taken "off your plate" to avoid accidents. Good luck! Lots to learn, but you CAN do it!!! One more quick tip. Set up a simple glider, then get out in the yard and test it with nice simple tosses. When you're doing your pre-trip, turn the master gains all the way up to really exaggerate the throws, so you wan be 100% sure they're working in the right direction. If you have a stabilizer working the wrong way - YOU WILL CRASH! Not sure if you saw my Sig Dornier DO 217 video series, but here's the link if you're interested... kzbin.info/aero/PLXTH0DstRDc6Xs1hNvrTkO00L4xt0vb4a ...I crash my grandpa's brand new plane due to my aileron stabilization being the wrong direction. This was more than a little frustrating.

Brian, I'm so frustrated with this damn hobby. I put the stab plus gyro in my plane. How come when I switched on the self leveling option, the plane porpoised (went up, down etc) and was basically out of control. Are the gains set too high and they are too sensitive? Another problem I had is I thought the plane was balanced because I balanced it. Apparently it wasn't balanced because when I hand tossed it, the thing went nose first into the ground. Do you have any vids on balancing a plane and fixing the weight of it. thanks for the help
@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the porpoising is a result of too much gain. There is a MASTER GAIN, as well as individual axis gains. You have to get the gains for each axis worked out, then you can use a channel to control the master gain...Aux 3, if it's like my lemon-rx receivers...which is the same channel you use to turn on and off the auto leveling, I believe...
@BrianPhillipsRC6 жыл бұрын
I don't really have a lot of footage balancing planes. If it flies nose down into the ground, you are too nose heavy. Keep in mind, you are way better off being nose heavy, then tail heavy. Of course there's a limit to that too :) Don't get frustrated!!! You gotta give yourself a lot of grace, and you'll get it!!! This hobby takes lots of effort when you're first learning how to do these things, but once you get it figured out, you can keep building on the stuff you've already mastered. It gets a LOT easier. You can do it!
@genes67036 жыл бұрын
I turn the gains down when I'm in self leveling mode but the sticks lose the ability to control the ailerons. Is that normal? How come the gains affect the surface controls but only in self leveling mode.

Hi Brian_ I know this is an old post of yours, but I would appreciate your take on the Lemon Stab. Plus 7 channel RX. Do you trust its signal strength and its quality to put on a plane... Say, an FMS Skytrainer 182. I just bought one, it looks nice and compact, but i wouldn't like to lose a plane due to a stabilizer. Appreciate your feedback, thanks_ emerio
@BrianPhillipsRC7 жыл бұрын
Emerio Diaz I love my Lemon-RX stabilizers. They have been super reliable in my experience. If you're concerned, which I don't think you need to be with a standard 7channel with stabilization and dual diversity antenna...you could get the one with a single antenna and a satellite reciever, thus you'd have an even larger spread between your antennas. P.S. I just answered a question yesterday about this too, but as for the "PLUS" part of the Lemon-RX - I don't personally think the PLUS adds much, since the "auto-leveling" doesn't seem the work well. The stabilizer works fine, as with the "non-PLUS" version, but you'll have to wait about 2-5 seconds for the receiver to initiate at power up...which I found annoying, but not a deal breaker. I'd save the $2 or so premium on the price, and go with the non-PLUS 7ch with stabilizer.
