There are at least two parts of this song that include several very low notes that are difficult for singers to hit just right. Lena handles the difficult low notes better than other female artists I have heard. Excellent work!!!

DrBob got it so wrong. Her training has nothing to do with her performance. The song was in too high a register. When I heard her start, I was already worried. As for her diction, it is her approach that works so well for ballads. She tried her style on this song, but this song takes a different voice. And to think that "musical preparation" might have helped her survive deep depression ... just so rude and an uneducated comment. As for training ... there is no question that she has been training since she was a child. I love how her vocal approach got STRONGER as she got older. Usually young singers hurt their voices and they wobble through as adults.

I'm halfway between you and DrBob. Her phrasing and diction does let her down in parts due to her breathing and the strong backing track. The subject matter also lends itself better to a more mature woman such as Elaine Paige, though I do prefer Lena's version I have to say.

Her training was not adequate for this difficult song. She had a gorgeous tone and amazing passion, but her diction and phrasing was poor. I can't imagine how good she would have been with some musical preparation, maybe good enough to help her survive deep depression. Thanks for posting this.
