Solid selection of horses, some of these lists you see are just silly. A healthy Ghostzapper was the best N. American runner I saw in the 2000`s, an awesome talent. Invasor was next. Point Given wasn't my favorite kind of horse, big and meaty (1300 pounds as a 3yr old!), but Gary Stevens loves him; another huge talent. Tiznow was terrific, but I think he got bored of racing as a 4yr old, took the Breeders Cup to wake him up. Wish we could have seen Afleet Alex run at 4, retired too young.

The stretch drives between bernardini and barbaro in the 06' triple crown races would have been legendary. i personally believe barbaro would have won the triple crown that year but man bernardini is amazing too! effortless strides and great stamina

lol I went to school with Graham Motion's nieces. My riding trainer was Helen Pitts' college roommate and I have had dinner with John Servis multiple times. I've probably been to way more racetracks than you and I hit a superfecta when I was in high school during the dubai world cup the year invasor won it. I've also helped rehabilitate countless off track thoroughbreds & my trainer used to breed racehorses. Learn who you're dealing with. & you seem to have plenty of time on your hands.

Bellamy Road was an absolute freak, and in my opinion definitely one of the top 5 horses of this decade. If it hadn't been for that rough trip he had at the Derby, nobody knows what would have happened. He never got to be the same after that, and i believe he only got to ran a valiant second in the travers that same year

Excellent video. I enjoyed each and every one of these champions and I hope Quality Road will be able to carry the torch in 2010. In my opinion the best North American male horses from 2000 to 2009 were Ghostzapper, Invasor, and Curlin. The others are a notch below in my opinion. Zenyatta is the best female horse I've ever seen and she has already eclipsed Azeri. If she wins the Classic over Quality Road, I would put her above Ruffian.

I still miss Barbaro. He was extraordinary and would have been the next triple crown winner to end our drought before American Pharaoh. My heart broke the day they had to make the decision to put him down. I was hoping he would make a recovery.

Clinton Pearson Alex was the greatest horse on dirt of the last 15 years. Probably the last thoroughbred bred in the US that had genuine stamina and soundness. Can you imagine any other of these horribly bred unsound horses nowadays taking a stumble like that in the Preakness? Their ankles would've snapped in half.

I saw most of these races at an OTB or in person depending where I was at the time. Great memories. Hard to choose just one. I saw Afleet Alex mow them down at Belmont three weeks after this Preakness clip. Seeing that in person was pretty impressive. Shame he came up short in the Derby. All great in their own right.

Tough call but I go Point Given following his disappointing Ky Derby he won four straight million dollar races (Preakness,Belmont,Haskell,Travers) only horse to accomplish the feat to this day I believe.

Afleet Alex all day and every way. His Belmont was a testament to his heart and his offspring are proof of his undeniable lineage. It's just very unfortunate that we were unable to see him race as a 4 year old or even that years BCC. He would have munched on Curlin with another patented stretch run burst. The horse was obviously getting better with age and that damn ankle injury ruined everything on the track for Alex. Obviously, he was better as distance increased, too. Marathoner.

Ghostzapper was a beast! I have never seen a horse who could run any distance comfortably AND do it either as a closer, stalker or front runner AND do it posting very high beyer speed figures. His Iselin Handicap win at Monmouth posted the highest Beyer ever since Spectacular Bid

great vid. They were all great horses, but I would give the nod to Tiznow because he defeated 2 euro monsters in the classic. Ghostzapper beat a strong field in his classic also. Point given and big brown should have been a tripple crown winners. discrete cat and bernardini were freaks but dont have the acomplishments of some of the others

i will never ever 4 get the day i went to the races 4 the 1st time....it was only 2 years ago in 2007 in hot springs, arkansas we were there 4 spring break and we planned 2 go 2 oaklawn park for a day (not knowing it was rebel stakes day, we just went for the enjoyment and i was only 10) and my dad and i went to the rail and i remember seeing curlin in the post parade and i didn't relize who i was looking at!!! i REALLLY wished that i would hav taken a picture of him

well if you remember before the zapper ran in the classic the same things were being said about him that are being said about frankel that he cant get 10f and what did he do just wire the field with ease.gotta remember zapper started off as a sprinter then finally after his classic win which was his 2nd to last race then he was considered a stayer.the reason i compare the 2 in just the high rate of speed that both have and keep throughout a race which is very rare.frankel will get 10f easily.
