Never mind that they fell like leaves at Moscow and Stalingrad. Never mind they took on the full fury of imperialism. THEY made Cuba possible and Fidel knew it and appreciated it. This footage is very interesting, because it highlights an important facet of the political situation at the time. Fidel Castro is a dedicated champion of Communism, class struggle and anti-imperialism, his speech and words are passionate, yet the CPSU members in the background look completely numb and bored by the speech. The decadent corruption and cronyism of the Brezhnev era had perforated the ranks of the high cadres of the party. The contrast between his advocacy and their indifference couldn't paint a clearer vision at how the CPSU lost its vanguardism due to the overrepresentation of the nomenklatura in its ranks.
@gomadgom21703 ай бұрын
Great observation. I noticed this when i was a teenager in the Cuban TV. I'm Cuban and i saw then almost all the speeches of "El Comandante" abroad, and i noticed ever the boring attitude of the Russians (Soviet) and eastern european cadres...Yet, during a sportive celebration in former Yugoslavia, televised un the Island, the public don't show any respect to the Cuban National Athem when a winner of the Cuban delegation rise to first rank in the podium. I believed it was due to the coldness idiosincracy there, but i though rather it was the result of other things specially after reading "The New Class" by Milovan Djilas, Yugoslavian politician and writer. IT is a shame that the ideas of social justice and happyness for everyone that comunism proclaims, and even all the lifes lost in the achieve of this ideal, weren't carry on in the way we expected. Now i'm 56 years old and I realize that life and humans are more complex, that human "esquemas", or projects in a philosophical view point, are extremely limited by subjectives, hopes and other individual aspirations.
