I would not like to own, so I will not own, any animal that has been bred to satisfy the breeders' bank accounts and the owners' irrational desires when all that causes pain and suffering to the animals in question. One of the worst examples of that cruelty is the fashion for brachycephalic dogs, poor little beings with squashed faces hiding an upper respiratory situation which is awful for the victims. I did not know that HL rabbits were brachycephalic, and I had already decided my pets were as much as I could keep correctly, but if now a friend or neighbour asks me what I think of an HL rabbit as a potential pet I shall direct them to the picture of those awful incisors. The only way to stop abusive breeding is to make it unprofitable by not buying its victims.

Yes i own 1, i wasn't aware of their health issues prior, i've had rabbits since i was little never a lop though thats indoor trained. My HL does have some health issue with URI or Snuffles not sure if both go hand in hand i believe i was told it does by a Vet. However, vets are unable to pinpoint the exact problem so whatever they have been doing for us isn't helping much. I will never get another rabbit to end up in this same problem again!

I’ve had a Lion Head , Rex , Mini Lop and Holland Lop. The HL has been my favorite. Most affectionate and highly intelligent. Very healthy bunny. No more health issues than other breeds. They’re each a little unique.

I am glad you mentioned the narrowed ear canals and dental problems. I visted one of Denmarks biggest rabbit shows this summer, together with some vets and vet student who specialices in rabbits. Many of the owners were kind enough to let ud look at the bunnies and examine their ear canals. And *every singel one* of the Lops we looked at had narrowed ear canals. A little more than half showed clear sign of discomfort from them. And mind you, this was at a top end rabbit show with some of the best bunnies in the breed - not some backyard breeding but people who really care about producing good quality rabbits. On the bright side, almost none of the lops showed signs of dental problems, but that might be due to the danish breeding standards, not calling for a face quite as short as other countries at this is known to give more dental problems. But this really showed to me, how bad the problem with lopped ears are. And no amount of 'good breeding' can fix lopped ear, when the root of the problem is, that the ears are bent at the base. And it causes so much stress and suffering for bunnies all over the world whose owner are not aware or don't have the money for vet care. So please, be responsible and never support breeding of lopped eared bunnies. And please, if you ever adopt one, make sure to get the ears looked at by a specialist and have the funds for lifelong treatment with eardrops or an operation to open the ear canal if necessary.

I had a Holland lop. His name was thumper he was the sweetest thing I love him so so much and he died 2 days ago of gastrointestinal stasis. It’s basically where a rabbits digestive system completely stops or slows down due to it eating something it shouldn’t. This is a reminder to anyone with a rabbit please don’t feed your rabbit anything that isn’t for them, my 8 yo sister saw me giving him some millit as a treat once a week (millit is bird food but rabbits can have small amnts) and she thought she could give him a large amount For his food a few days ago, he stopped eating, drinking and using the toilet altogether, we thought it was just constipation so we took him to the vet and he didn’t think it was fatal, but he got weaker and weaker after he got home even with the medication we fed him every few hours, he died 8 hours after taking him home from the vet at 1am. Please, if you notice something wrong with your rabbit take them to the vet straight away. Rabbits are very sensitive creatures and I don’t think I’ll ever recover from my one’s death. 😕

I have two Holland Lops that needed a home that I got from Craigslist. It does take money to keep them healthy. Both of mines have health insurance coverage and I've spent thousands both spoiling them and maintaining their general health. It's a commitment that I would not change and a joy to see their personalities flourish, plus I was able to bond them and it's the cutest thing to see them together being each other's keepers.

I have two rabbits, one being a holland lop which we named Nala. We were searching for a holland lop and a few other breeds as well that had a calm and loving temperament. She was listed on Petfinder at an animal shelter so we decided to visit her there. The people working there informed us that she had just been spayed the day before so they told us to “not be too rough with her and to be carful if we decided to pick her up”. They then walked us to the room where she was and left, closing the door behind them. Given that we were complete strangers and they decided to not supervise and gave little instruction, this was concerning to me. I knew that they didn’t care much for these rabbits. She was in a small cage with little hay, had wood chip bedding, horrible pellets and was right next to the room where the dogs were kept. The walls were thin so the bunny’s didn’t have a break from the dogs barking. We tried to say hi to her but she was very nervous and tried to hide in the corner. We didn’t have the chance to really get to know her, but we honestly felt really bad for her and made the decision to adopt her the next day. It took her awhile to warm up to my mom and I, which was unlike our first bunny who we had adopted a few weeks earlier. We did our best taking care of her after she was spayed and was even litter box trained within a couple of days. Eventually we moved her pen next to my other bunnyto begin the bonding process. They were bonded within a few months and started free roaming together. Nala isn’t much of a people person, nor is she cuddly and calm. She is very energetic, active and social. You can count on her to come up to you and beg for food, she loooves her lettuce and treats. Basically, she defies all holland lop traits which is what we were originally looking for but I wouldn’t trade her for any other bunny. Getting to know her has been the best thing ever, I love her so much. I’m glad we were able to bond her with my lion head Oliver, who acts just like a typical holland lop😂.

My family already have a Mini Rex named Oreo but we got another bunny and he's a holland lop mix. We've named him Toasty and apparently his previous owners left him when they moved out of their apartment, which breaks my heart because he's such a sweet and playful boy that deserves all the love. Since he's a mix he has a longer face and legs but still has the floppity loppities and the fluff crown. We have not bonded our bunnies yet and I don't know if we will because they live in separate rooms. This afternoon I looked over to see Toasty flopped over with his head completely to the ground and that made my heart melt because he feels so safe and comfortable. He's my baby and I wouldn't trade him for the world and I hope he lives a long happy life.

I had a gorgeous Holland lop, Vespa, a 4 pound Zen Master, who inspired me to do a PhD on pet rabbit care and the owner-rabbit relationship at the Ontario Veterinary College, in Guelph, Canada. (The thesis and research papers will be out over the next year.) Thanks for reporting on the work at the RVC (Royal Veterinary College) in London, England, about lop eared rabbits compared to erect eared rabbits. They do great work at the RVC and really care about rabbits. Rabbits are popular pets in the UK and the RVC team and other research teams in the UK and Europe are interested and concerned about rabbit welfare. Hopefully raised awareness can help owners get rabbits that start looking ill and/or behaving out of character off to the vet faster for care. Thanks for your informative, beautifully produced videos. All the best to you and Lennon.

Great video as always. I have a mini lop, 3 years old boy and a holland lop 2 years old girl, both have been “fixed”. Sherlock, the mini lop, has regular visits ever 3 to 4 months for his dental training due to misalignment, just like you mentioned. He had slight ear wax build up and requires regular cleaning and anti infection drops in his ears. Like many others said, we love both of them to bits and can’t imagine a life without them dispute being super expensive to maintain. But we won’t have it any other way ❤️

I had a Holland lop, Nancy. Nancy was a very sweet bunny. I had her only a little over 5 months. When i was spending time with Nancy, my mom and I realized she had lost a lot of weight, we assumed my other rabbit was being a hog over food, so we fed both rabbits separately and my mom and I were going to give Nancy time to see if she were to fatten up. But one day, I got home from school one day to see she passed away. We think she died from cancer, but we aren't 100% sure, so if you guys get a holland lop make sure to take them to a vet before things get worse!

For anyone reading this and I never see this post it or talked about. If you have small animals and it’s even not a bad idea to do it with bigger animals.. you get used to seeing them every day just think of it friends that you see every day if you lose five or 10 pounds they don’t notice but if it’s a friend you see once every two or three months, the first thing they say is wow you’ve lost weight. You may not even notice you’ve lost weight unless you take a picture of your before and after and look at them the same thing happens when we see our animals daily small animals like ferrets rabbits just a tiny bit of weight gain can become critical fast. You should be weighing them at least weekly. Any animal that loses weight should get a vet appointment, but small animals like this should be treated as an emergency if they lose weight now if you’ve had your rabbit in a pen and you start free roaming them, I would weigh them the day you take them out of the pan and weigh them daily and at the end of the week talk to your vet if you notice a loss because with exercise, they will lose a little bit of weight, but stay in touch with your Vet during the transition to make sure they are getting into a healthy weight and it’s not an illness. Almost every illness in a small compact animal will show with a weight loss before you ever see a sign. Remember, these are wild animals. They are used to hiding illness because it is a weakness.

I have two holland loop rabbits named Palma and Mimi, and I love them so much. They are very affectionate and loves to be cuddled for a long time. Their eyes is very expressive, and I can often tell how they feel by the look in their eyes. I think they have many emotions and are clever animals with a very good memory. For example, the oldest rabbit is no longer allowed to enter some parts of the house (my childrens rooms) because she chewed on too many things. But she'll never forget what that part of the house looks like, and she's always looking for a chance to run back in there. And if she gets the chance, she knows exactly where she wants to go and runs fast to get there 😄💗💗💗

Awww thank you for this video. Such great information that I needed ! . My bun, Snoopy is a pure white Holland Lop with bright blue eyes.. he found me after being returned to the shelter twice 😢 We met last December when I volunteered at our local farm shelter, and I couldn't understand why he would be taken to a shelter at all, let alone twice in his first year of life , So sweet and friendly.. I had my first rabbit giant called Steve a few years ago and he was taken suddenly just after he was two years old, and I didn't think I could or would ever have another rabbit.. the pain of losing Steve was too much, devastated me...😥. but then Snoopy came into my life, perhaps when we both needed each other, He has a very free life with me, no cage , just our little den outside together and our garden, and this summer he "left home" and made his own burrow, as boy bunnies do.. He comes to me and loves loving, and can be his wild self.. Again thank you for your video, will keep an eye on his teeth (although given the bark and wood he chews on I think he knows how to deal with his own dentistry 😂)

My first rabbit was a Holland Lop mix. Sadly, he passed away while undergoing his neutering back in 2021. I miss my Shen baby. But that's okay. Because his very existence is the reason we've been adopting from our local shelter, instead. Went from one to now four. All various personalities with one obvious trait. Staring at me each time I open a bag of some kind. "Treat?" While I may not think about getting another Holland Lop, or any lop, in the near future, I will never forget the bunny who started it all for me. My sweet baby boy, the rabbit god, Tu'er Shen.

Which broke my heart, and when I found out they needed someone to take her I hopped on the chance. We have had her for about a month and she loves being able to race around the house and do her binkies and she does her flops all the time. my Lennon (2y) is a Minnie loop she is such a sweetheart, but a boss girl at the same time. she is really relax and Love other Humans, but she fight from time to time her Brother . so this is a mix between Power and Stubborn's personalty with a very trustfully warm heart and very smart. In my experience, they also get bored faster than other types of bunnies. I can come up with something new every day. she obeys like a dog. She is very charming, healthy so far, but they also tend to gain weight. But you are very charismatic and my Lennon loves the world. she would even get kidnapped if you or anyone else were there with no problem because she loves people too much. she flirts with the courier, the electrician, with everyone. And she knows how cute she is and use this the whole time. And is obsessed with nanas . I'm so grateful for you video. bunnies in general are so amazing and give so much for her pack, her humans if we threat them with respect, I hope we (I come from Germany) in Germany become a bigger lobby for this smart ones who give us more than we can ever realize.

I made the mistake of purchasing my lop from a pet store, but I have no regrets about him. I did my research and only found out after that lops are more prone to health issues than the straight eared rabbits. He is my pride and joy and yes vet trips are expensive but I am VERY COMMITTED to his health and well being. In the future I will most definitely adopt. Similar to pugs, I wish breeders would stop breeding Holland Lops. It would be a smarter idea to just stick with the healthiest breed of rabbit for everyone, or basically just have one breed in existence. For now, so are so many bunnies that need homes that I will do my part in adopting and educating people about rabbits :)

My first rabbit was a Holland Lop. He was my best friend and i loved him so much. He passed in 2012 and it still hurts to this day. I adopted him from a friend who couldnt keep him. He had alot of teeth problems but lived to be around 10 years old. I have never had such a close bond to any other animals, and i have had alot of pets. I have a bunny today that this year turns 11, i have had bunnies ever since 2005. Its gonna be so empty when she is gone.

One of my boys is a holland lop and I always could tell he had trouble hearing and seeing. His calm temperament never stops him from being a very curious bunny however he always lays down close to me while I'm sleeping and is so clingy. I couldn't imagine any other rabbit as my first solo pet!

First time owner after a lot of research, I adopted two female 8 week old holland lops a month ago from MSPCA....perfect for what I was hoping: (adopting, young, two for companionship to each other, the type of breed that will live a bit longer than larger breeds, and bonded being from the same litter.) Amazing how well bonded they are, eating, sleeping, bouncing around together! Was planning to keep them in a large enclosure while I was working, then letting them out when I returned. Had placed a few boxes instead of the cage panels because I was tired of tripping over it when feeding them, etc. and upon the 4th night, in the living room come two small white balls of fur, binkying, racing around, exploring a whole new world! Enclosure no longer, they free-roam even when I'm not home, since they're litter-trained for pee. I do have a foraging rug w/hay, their egg-carton puzzle, etc so they poop on their two rugs but so easy to sweep. When I sweep their main carpet at 5am! 😪, Binky and Trixie come hopping out, time for breakfast!

Yes! I totally have a holland lop that I greatly adore, and vice versa (her name is Kira btw ❤). Also, this video is fantastic! I appreciate how informative it is on a specific breed, and inludes both the pros and cons. There's always various pros and cons to taking in any pet so it's good to have well-developed videos like this one available as a resource. 😁

I had a Holland lop. She just passed away this past April at 9 and a half years old. She was such a beautiful, sassy, sweet bunny. She is in my profile pic with my Havana.

I have two Holland Lops right now, Teddy (from local shelter) and Terra. Teddy as problems with both his ears and his teeth and is a regular at the Vet Clinic, Terra has not health issues whatsoever. They're about a month apart in age and very sweet natured. Especially Teddy, who rewards a nice pet session with kisses and kisses and more kisses. Both sometimes make some... bad decisions (I had to pluck Teddy outta my laundry box this morning, because he jumped in and couldn't get out anymore). But the are the cutest bunch of fluff ❤

I have a 4month old holland mini lop mix ❤ he is such a sweet boy! Already have the quote from the vet to get him fixed (they are waiting until he’s a bit older because his balls haven’t drop yet) here within the next month (hopefully) he’ll get fixed! All my pets get fixed, because it extends there life, and I never bread them. So excited to turn the extra room (once my roommate moves out) into a bunny paradise for him! With a couch for myself and a TV in there also, so I can spend tons of time with him! Since I’m a disabled veteran, I spend a lot of time at home, so lots of time to work on training!

I just saved a Holland lop baby from being snake food so im happy that you've just posted this. Unfortunately I couldn't save all the rabbits but I was at least able to save one from the snake breeder. It's horrible that he breeds them just to feed them to his snakes for cheap food😢 My other two Rex's are also rescues

😢 Thank God that they weren't all snake food... 'Coz i also have a rex that was almost snake food. Same as your story.

I have a Holland lop/ angora mix. (Or so I was told) she just turned 2. Her name is Honeybun and she is so sweet! She is solid grey with grayish eyes as well.Sometimes both ears lop but usually one is up and one down We just went through Stasis which was so scary ,but she is better now. We're in Ohio and the vet trip for stasis with vet trip, xray and meds was $450.00. Her spay when we got her was 200.00. She's an expensive Queen ,but i wouldnt change it,she brings us so much happiness. Love your channel . We have been watching since we got her 2 years ago. Your channel has been so informative and helpful to us. ❤❤

Thank you for making this! I love my lop but so many don't realize the health issues they can have. We had a foster who ended up passing due to liver torsion which we found out after is common in lops.

I rescued 2 bonded Holland lops and bonded them with my Vienna blue eyed white rescue. All are in good health so far and free roam 24/7 indoors in my kitchen diner. They are my children substitute now that I am older xxxxx

All 8 of my buns have pointy ears I rescued them from the same area they are all the same kind. Super cute and tough as nails. Half pint is the toughest alpha male he was wrapped in wire as a baby and as he grew bigger it got tighter and cut deeper into his body. He has a ring about 3/4” deep around his chest area and back. Looks like he’s cut in half fur doesn’t grow there . He was happy to be found by me and fixed up . Must have been so painful. He’s all fat and happy now though. A few of my buns have chucks missing from their ears from being street bunnies. I didn’t realize how tough rabbits are till I started looking after them.

I have 3 Holland lops! My little old man is 9.5 years and has been the biggest sweetheart his entire life!! My 2 year old girl is sassy and into EVERYTHING but so sweet!! My 2 year old boy is a sweet, shy boy, who loves to jump on my bed and stays up there all night! Point being…Holland lops are amazing, sweet bunnies, but in my experience, they all have different personalities. Which really make me love them all more! Great video!!

I have a Holland Lop even tho I initially didn’t want a bunny with hanging ears, but when I saw my little man I fell in love right away. The day I took him home he flopped on his side and slept with his eyes closed. I never had a bunny be so comfortable right away.

I have a Holland Lop, adopted him when he was 3yrs old. He is a sweet heart. He wasn't healthy when I got him, so lots of vet visits, wound care and surgeries. It wasn't his ears or teeth though. He had some wounds on his flank, that abcessed. I thought I was going to have to put him down, until I went to another vet. Turns out the first vet was doing everything wrong. He is my ❤

I have had lot of free roam bunnies over the years and now have my first holland lop. I have bunny sat many of them and out of all the “bunny breeds” I give these guys a gold star ⭐️ for personality diversity. My little girl is a lumpy grump and was born that way 😂😂. One thing I did notice about them and was warned by the breeder ( I live in Canada and there were no bunnies in any rescues or up for Re homing when I was looking for a bunny friend for my other bun🤷🏼♀️ it happens a lot where I live)was hollands are like pugs they over heat over eat and need incentive to exercise 😹

I have a 3 year old Holland Lop named Isla (but we usually call her Chippy.) But she is not sweet at all. She's pretty much always had a massive attitude problem. When you go to pet her head, she backs away. She's been spayed but still bites if you get in her way too much. She also decided to do her business (#1 & #2) right next to my pillow. Such a damn Brat! But I love her.
