Lennox Lewis was such a complete boxer, by this I mean he could box, brawl, smother dance, the works. He had a cargo ship full of heart and seemed to really enjoy his more difficult opponents. He was particularly scary though when he tko'd Mr Golota and frighteningly accurate against Mr V Klitschko. Great fighter, boxer and Ambassador for boxing. We salute you Mr Lewis

That wide-eyed look of confused horror on Golota's face after going down to Lewis is one of the most iconic images of 90's boxing.

Braheme Days - yeah, Lewis fixed it with his right hand. Virtually zero boxing matches for world titles, between 2 prime fighters, are fixed. You couldn't pay them enough, they get too much money by winning and being champ. Get your tinfoil hat off. When Liston took a dive vs Ali, that was a fix, but Liston was finished and controlled by mobsters - they'd have shot him. Also, Manny Pacquiao vs. Lucas Matthysse, was the only obvious fix I know of - Pac-Man bought his title and Matthysse was ready for retirement, so sold it to him and fell over.

I think Golota may have actually been more mentally ill than McCall. The way he DQ himself whilst easily beating Bowe, twice, was proper madness. At least McCall was just depressed and had a death wish.

@Braheme Days If you watch the replay in slow motion you can see the shock wave from the impact going through Golota as he gets hit with Lewis's right hand. The punch he took as he was falling (the second or third 1-2 combo Lewis threw) was the most devastating punch, but it was so fast that you don't see it during regular speed.

It took people 17 years to start recognizing just how damn good this man actually was. Easily top 5 HW of all time. (I rate him as 3rd behind Ali and Joe Lewis) Hard puncher Solid chin Fast and light on his feet His defense was solid High level of dexterity and hand eye coordination (this dude had an insane hit rate for punches thrown and landed - very accurate and knew when to throw a good punch) Tall with a long reach and calculated aggression would of made him extremely intimidating to be in the ring with. I grew up watching him, rated him throughout his career and was bewildered why he was all but forgotten after. I am certainly glad that now, after 17 or so years since his retirement, that people are starting to recognize just how good he actually was. Him and Klitschko are my favourite boxers of all time and i rate him above Klitschko because he had fights in a much more competitive HW division than Klitschko.

LOL clueless. Lewis was nearly 38 and should have retired before, let alone having a pointless rematch. Vitali was only winning, slightly, on the cards because he was going for a KO, because he knew the cuts would stop him. Vitaly was actually gassing too by the end. 100% correct stoppage. You can't win on points if you've already lost by TKO due to Lewis inflicting 60 stitches worth of horrific cuts. These are actual facts. Still bitter? There is no mistaking his skill and power, but his resume was very weak and it is rather overrated. I can't name 5 great boxers he defeated, maybe an old Spinks and Frank Bruno. Those are arguably his best wins. I would have had Tyson Fury placed at 2, and for good reason too. But his career is not near over. @austinlittke55805 жыл бұрын
He doesn't get credit because he fought in an era where heavyweight boxing was past it's prime. They were milking a past his prime tyson, hyping up Michael grants, desperately trying whatever they could do to bring/restore excitement. Not saying it's Lewis's fault, but he just isn't that guy because he fought in a post-apocalyptic era where the belt wasn't relevant like it used to be
@goatlps5 жыл бұрын
Post-apocalyptic? I'm sure I would have remembered the apocalypse. LOL, Lewis's era was arguably the strongest ever. Ali's era was barely professional. Tyson, Holyfield and Bowe should still have been his opponents if they hadn't have ducked or become unprofessional and faded - as I assume you're only thinking of those Americans. Holyfield was a great cruiserweight and could only compete at HW due to a huge amount of PEDs.

@@austinlittke5580 that's daft talk. Who were all these greats that Tyson fought in his era? Who were all the greats that the Klitschkos rolled over in their era? Tyson paid money to avoid fighting Lewis; Chicken Bowe threw a title away rather than fight him in the pro ranks after being beat up at the olympics. Tyson eventually fought him and got beat up, Holyfield fought him and got beat up. Klitschko got 60 stitches for the pleasure. He fought everyone in his era and to be honest dominated for 10 years. His only two losses he was winning on the cards, and he avenged them comfortably.

@rezarfar4 жыл бұрын
@@austinlittke5580 you do realise that Lewis was fully active during that period of time you're talking about, he was being ducked and dived his whole career. That whole situation with Bowe essentially symbolizes the issue with Lewis's career - nobody wanted to fight him. Not the actual boxers themselves but the trainers behind the boxers. The people who have been treating boxing like a game of chess and have mastered all the angles, styles and methods to approach each situation. Those people avoided having their fighters face Lewis until it became unavoidable and even then you see what happens when a fighter has enough of his own sense to know what he'd be upagainst facing Lewis, you see a belt get thrown in the bin. Lewis vs Mercer would definitely be in my top 5. That fight was brutal, and Lewis really had to work hard to earn a slim margin of victory against a game and "Merciless" Ray Mercer.

LOL - how was it debunked Kirk? Everyone knows the Wlad era was terrible - that's why no one watched it and he was based in Germany, not USA, and only Joshua & Wilder have reignited interest in the division - although its still poor. Wlad still managed to lose to fighters who were never seen again. He even lost to Fury, who's the most technically inept, weakest puncher in history. Wlad wasn't as good as Vitali and Vitali lost to a past it Lewis. Wlad would only have been a decent contender in the '90s. He tactically made the most of his attributes though, versus bums, like Fury uses his huge height and reach well and jabs and runs. Everyone but you knows this - "Casual" - LOL says casuals who don't agree with known reality.

@goatlps5 жыл бұрын
Hopkins was boring and dominated a poor middleweight era - a bit like Pavlik, but not that bad, he was just huge and beat bums - yet never dare fight the super middleweights, who'd have exposed him, despite being taller than all of them. Winky Wright & Andre Ward were much better, they were true greats.

Excellent video and great fight calls. I was very impressed with Vitali Klitschko. I thought at any moment he would KO Lewis and Lewis seemed to be getting tired. Emmanuel Stewart brought out the best in Lewis, but he brought out the best in each of his fighters. He was a very gifted trainer. Thanks, Rummy! Enjoyed it.

Lennox Louis was no joke. He beat every man he ever fought even the ones who beat him. Even though there are better he deserves to be seen as one of the greatest boxers ever
@cattycats45 жыл бұрын
I agree with his win over Golota, it is very underrated, the same thing goes for his win over Briggs which is actually equally as impressive, nobody has beaten Briggs like Lennox did and Vitali tried everything against Briggs who was also having athsma issues throughout his fight with Vitali. I would rank both of those fights within the top 5. Lennox was in my opinion the best heavyweight boxer of all time, his style wouldve surely been the kryptonite for Ali in his prime, a thinking man with huge KO power and also the heart and ferocity of a lion, you simply cannot beat that.

You're saying it like Vitali didnt have any chance against briggs and tried everything to beat him but Vitali was using briggs as a heavybag for the whole fight. Not his fault that he cant punch as hard as his brother

Ali is unbeatable boy, he can take shots all night long from liston, foreman, shavers, frazier or any other hw that ever lived. Dont forget that Ali's ring IQ was insane and miles better than lewis's
@feliscorax5 жыл бұрын
Bang Daddy Actually, you don’t know that for certain. It’s just your subjective opinion: Don’t confuse Ali’s movement for superior ring craft or ring IQ. Lewis’ ring craft was at least the equal of Ali, and IMHO, only Foreman’s was better in the history of heavyweight boxing. But Lewis has everything needed to beat all-comers, including Foreman and Ali. If you watch Lewis carefully, however, you’ll see just how technical he is, and how efficiently he closes off angles and stalks his opponent (only Foreman was better at this). Lewis was up there with Shavers and Foreman for KO power, too. The difference is his ring IQ, timing on his punches, and the fact he really could hurt anyone who stepped into the ring with him - from either hand and with any punch, but especially his left uppercut and left lead jab-straight right/overhand combination. In my view, he’s the best there has ever been taken on his merits as a heavyweight, and as a boxer, as well as his actual record. Doesn’t stop Ali from being The Greatest, but that’s to include other reasons beyond what he achieved as a boxer.

Tend to agree on the Golota win as it was so unexpectedly quick. Whilst there seemed to be even expectations on a Lewis win it was expected to take 8 rounds or more if not go the whole distance. For Lewis to Despatch Golota so easily was astonishing at the time and the last thing anyone expected. Pity he never got to fight Bowe. That would have been a very interesting battle which I think Lewis would have won on his technical abilities, but, boxing is never predictable is it....
@kellyrobinson47205 жыл бұрын
Rumor has it that Golota had a injured shoulder and took lidocaine for the pain. It's supposedly made him feel loopy and he wasn't near at his best. Great win for Lewis no doubt. As Golota superfan it was just another big disappointment.

I've been watching a lot of boxing videos the past couple weeks and I've made this same comment before. The 90's were a really great time for boxing and the era that I truly was a fan and watched it religiously with my brother. Jones, Hopkins, Barrera, Lewis, Bowe, Old Foreman, Mosley, Klitschko. Hamed as well, even though I hated him, I watched all of his fights hoping someone would finally put an end to it. Barrera did, thank God. A real end as well. I've really migrated over to MMA now, but 90's boxing holds some of my favorite memories.

The Greatest Of All Time. Fullstop. ...Was 2" taller and 3 stone heavier than Ali, before anyone starts believing Ali's self-proclaimed 'Greatest' nonsense - was barely better than tiny Joe Frazier. Plus, the '90s was the most dangerous era, with loads of roidheads, good fighters, with huge speed and power.

His greatness was not fully appreciated during his career. At the time his persona probably puzzled a lot of Americans but he was bigger, faster, more skilled and more than mean enough. In retrospect he sought out and defeated all legitimate contenders in a dominant fashion. He reached the absolute apex and remains the last man to do so 20 years later. Lennox Lewis is surely one of the very greatest heavyweight champions in the history of boxing.

Very underrated is Lewis. Was the top heavyweight of what I’d consider the 2nd toughest period of heavyweight history. If there was a theoretical competition where at the greats entered a tournament, I’d put my money on Lewis. I genuinely think he has it all, speed, size, power and most importantly of all a great ring IQ. The only heavyweight with a more impressive record, is Ali.
