I wonder if by "evidence" Atkins means tangible proof? There are things that are not tangible like the number 1 or 2 and so on. They exist only as constructs perceived within the mind yet are objectively real; immutable and imperishable. I suspect they were there even before the universe came into being. Every number has a basic property and a method. These are the attributes. Then how difficult is it to regard the Absolute Truth (God) similarly. The question is not evidence because the evidence is plain to see and irrefutable in the same way one can't deny the existence of the number "1" for a lack of evidential proof. If that makes sense.

A true Christian who understands what Paul means when he wrote 2 Cor 5:18-21 understands that Jesus earthly ministry was to get Israel to see their Messiah and when they rejected him and killed him that during the DB&R a new creation was made and that whosoever believed the message that was given to the only aspistle to the gentiles as well as the jews after the cross are saved through believing what Jesus accomplished with his DBR and the only thing that saves and gives salvation is simply to believe that. When a believer does then God sees the believer through his Son and nothing he does is held against him. Because of this free gift the person is grateful to God and chooses to live the best life he can knowing he can never live up to Gods standards yet he knows that he is a child of God and can never loose his salvation. What I have seen of evangelical Christianity is that they don’t separate Jesus’s earthly purpose from the eternal purpose for anyone who believes what happened with the cross. Note: I have only been saved a few years because all that I ever heard of Christendom seemed to be that all of Jesus life was written to me and that what was written in Matthew was for me yet all who preached and taught that couldn’t make anything in Matthew work for them thus I knew something was wrong with the baptist. Through years of struggle I happened onto hearing a Bible teacher explain the Bible the way it was actually written. What a difference it makes. I learned that it was called the Pauline doctrine and since the cross its always been around however theres never been more than a half to one percent of Christendom that heard or seen or believed it. Sadly its all but extinct in the US.

Of the debates I’ve watched between a Christian and an atheist, there seems to be a common theme. The Christian tends to be humorous and humble and the atheist tends to be disrespectful, dismissive, and angry. It is an interesting representation of a person with God and a person without God… and how He changes us from the inside out.
@KevinGeneFeldman

Imagine the stupidity of having a world view that nothing created all of us, it means nothing, when we die its exactly as if we never lived, so lets spend all our time angrily trying to convince people that their lives are meaningless too and will essentially UN-LIVE at death where it doesnt matter what you did, what you believed, what you enjoyed or anything at all. Atheism is the most ridiculous and preposterously stupid belief system man king has ever been infected with, its not even close.
@mrsamtheman80
@mrsamtheman80 4 ай бұрын
Also, the atheist tends to say “nothing could even hypothetically convince me to change my mind”, whereas the Christian says “Hypothetically, yes, but it would have a lot of explaining to do for what I have personally experienced”. Atheists are so reluctant to even entertain the opposing view, as Atkins clearly states-even if he witnessed Jesus dying and being resurrected personally, he would not be convinced. Compare to Lennox saying if credible evidence emerged that early Christians deceived and some other explanation for my personal witnesses of Christ’s power existed, but it doesn’t and Christianity is the way.

John is right it is innate in us what is good and evil even as a child I know when I have deliberately did something wrong even before my parents will scold me. "Do not do unto others what you don't want others to do unto you" is the golden rule because we all know it's true. Even the evil people doesn't want anyone to harm them. From that moment onwards she started recovering in a miraculous way (a secular Jewish doctor who I spoke to at the time informed me that (and I quote) "Your mother's a miracle, you know that?"). That’s a mischaracterization of OT texts. You’re slapping the 21st century on top of the ancient world. Israel was establishing itself as a nation in the midst of severe brutality led by Assyria and Egypt. As violent as Israel was asked to be, it was still less than the nations around them. The purpose of that nation was to be a shining light in the world, not to the exclusion of others but to the benefit of the world. And those born before Christ were not excluded from salvation. And you can dismiss Lennox’s arguments, but you certainly can’t deny they’re at least arguments.

I love truth! I pursue truth! It moves me deeply when i discover or recognize it. Even when it is difficult or challenging personally. I have found no greater, no other truth than Jesus, His words, God's whole story and plan as related in the Bible. I have experienced the healing power that comes with it, a redeemed life and perpose and being set free from various afflictions. And His truth is still changing me, enabling me to be a part of the new creation. To take my role, to grow into it. "I am the way, the truth and the life." Jesus said. I love truth. I love God.

@Psicólogo Miguel Cisneros you're asking reall good questions!! 😀👍 How do you relate to any person? By talking with them, right? By spending time together, getting to know each other... Jesus aleady knows you in and out, He knows your thoughts, good and bad, He knows your hopes and desires... So it's up to you now to get to know Him 🙂 He is very near you, if you start talking to him, He will draw even nearer. Ask Him all your questions, tell Him tht you want to relate to Him, but don't know how. Ask him to show you! Reading the Bible is priority number one to get to know Jesus, because His words are in it. And these words have power! They will change your heart and thinking for the better 😊👍👍👍 Talking to peoplewho already know Jesus, spending time in fellowship is important and exciting, also for seeing whatJesis does right now! @Psicólogo Miguel Cisneros Feelings do not always equate to truth. Often, feelings can get us into a lot of trouble. I was brought up in an atheistic household. By the age of six I started asking questions about God and was often mocked by my family. My mum actually thought I was ill for even asking. I lived my life thinking there's probably a God but I didn't care. At 30, I had a vision that I was at my dads funeral and I was prompted to preach the gospel of Christ to my dad. I had never read the Bible so I had no idea what the word "gospel" meant and had to google it. I told my dad about my profound experience and we studied the Bible together (I left out the part that I was at his funeral). I started writing in Hebrew, Aramaic and Koine Greek-the three languages that the Bible is originally written in. Again, I had never read the Bible and certainly didn't know anything about the languages. I was guided to learn about Biblical prophecies. Again, I didn't know what prophecy was. I just want to add, that none of this happened to me because I'm more special in God's eyes than you or anybody else but because I had a willing heart and through using me as an instrument, many of my family members now have a relationship with Christ. My dad excepted Jesus Christ's salvation plan for him-the gospel of Christ and he died 3 months later smiling in a coma. There's so many more miracles I can get into that are mindblowing but I cannot prove my testimony to you. God doesn’t say just have faith, He backs it up with evidence. He gives you something to examine and I don't just mean historical evidence and archaeological evidence but through Bible prophecy. More than a quarter of the Bible contains prophecy showing you how important it is to God to give us information about the future. Approximately 70% of Bible prophecy have found fulfillment with 100% accuracy which means the other 30% reserved for the end times have remained unfulfilled and will also be fulfilled with 100% accuracy. No other religion in the world has such confirming evidence to inspire its faith. This is God's way of saying, examine Me so that you can know amongst all these idols and false gods that I am who I say I Am. There are plenty of outside sources for example, the first century historian Josephus. He was not a Christian but he wrote about Jesus and how both during and after His death there were countless eye witness accounts claiming they witnessed this man performing miracles and claiming to see the risen Jesus, which led to a huge conversion to the faith. We have the preserved writings of the first century Pharisees in early Judaism. Remember, they flat out deny Jesus as Son of God and yet they affirm in their writings that this man was doing something supernatural, causing up a stir among the people. Interestingly, they do not apply these supernatural acts to miracles rather something demonic in nature. The Old Testament predicted that the nation of Israel by in large would reject it's King and this is why they refuse to read prophecies such as Isaiah 53, written 700 years before the first coming, death, burial and resurrection of Christ and Psalm 22, written by kind David 1000 years before. They don't read it because it clearly predicts the Messiah coming and being crucified. The crucifixion of Christ predicted 1000 years in advance (Psalm 22:16) is also significant because as capital punishment, the Jew's stoned people to death (Leviticus 24:16); (Numbers 15:35-36). The piercing prophecy is remarkable because history tells us that the Romans would come into the land of Israel and take away from the Jew's the right to execute their own criminals. The Jew's had to turn Jesus over to the Romans after they accused Him of being guilty through their own religious courts (of course Christ was innocent) because of what Rome had done beginning of 63 B.C. It was the Roman's who crucified people. The Romans did not invent the crucifixion, that was the Assyrians. The point is, at the time the prophecy was penned by David 1000 years beforehand and then again by Isaiah and all these other prophets, by saying “piercing” they were anticipating the Roman's coming into Israel and removing the right to execute their own criminals. If a mere man had written that, there's no way a Jew could have foreseen that and it wouldn't have said “piercing,” it would have been written that Christ would die by stoning. The Old Testament predicted a two-part prophecy; a physical and spiritual revival of national Israel; the physical (the land coming back to life after laying as a desolate wasteland for a lengthy period of time until the last days, which it did for nearly 2000 years). The physical revival has been fulfilled but as predicted, the Jew's are back in their land from being scattered amongst the nations and are in rejection of Christ. So, the spiritual revival-the acceptance of their true Messiah who already came is yet to be fulfilled. Many of the events such as specific detailed wars, locations and buildings are verified and more and more is being discovered. For example, the inscriptions on cylinders in the British Museum engraved by the Babylonian king, Nabonidus varifies the same account in the Bible and there are countless artifacts like this and archaeological sites verifying the Biblical accounts. There are three tests. The first is bibliographic, which examines whether the documents we have today are the same as those originally written by the authors. This test considers the quantity of existing manuscripts and the time between the earliest copies and the originals. When people try to mock the Bible as untrustworthy, keep this in mind: there are only 49 copies of Aristotle’s writings in existence and each is at least 1400 years removed from the original. Aristotle for anyone who doesn’t know, is considered to be one of the greatest Greek philosophers. It gets worse: of the writings of Greek philosopher, Plato, there are only 7 copies on the planet and they are 1200 years removed from the original. Contrast that with the Bible, of which we have over 24,000 copies and they’re finding more all the time. The earliest of those is only 25 years removed from the original and even from within the lifetime of the actual authors. Yet people don’t think to question the authenticity of Aristotle or Plato’s writings while they scoff at the Bible. It makes no sense. And the Bible’s preservation story gets better than 25 years. In the same community where the Dead Sea Scrolls, (with their Old Testament copies), were found, just in the last few years they have actually found copies of the New Testament books too. If you use the dates people estimate for the writing of the New Testament manuscripts, based on what they have just found. We now have portions of the Gospel of Mark from within 13 years of being written, portions of Romans from within 11 years, James within 8 years, Acts within 5 years, 1 Timothy within 5 years, and portions of 2 Peter from the exact same year it was estimated to have been written. The New Testament is the most verified document in the history of mankind! When people mock the Bible, its due to their own lack of understanding or their lack of pursuit of Biblical knowledge. What about legend vs historical figure? Women were the key and chief witnesses to testify that they had found the empty tomb of Jesus after He had been buried for three days. The first eyewitness to see Jesus resurrected was a woman. We know according to Jewish custom women were deemed to be unreliable witnesses. If you were a first-century Jew making up this story out of thin air, you would never say that women discovered the tomb. It would damage your case or credibility, not help it. So,why did all four gospel writers record that it was women who discovered the empty tomb? The disciples recorded what actually happened and knowing their truth in Jesus regardless the backlash. The presence of these women is strong evidence of the historical accuracy of their claims and how they were embarrassing to the early church gives us even more reason to think that they are real historical witnesses. Now, what’s interesting is that when you look at this from our twenty first century perspective what was a weak point in the first-century is a strong point from a historical critical understanding of the gospels now. The first century issues of proclaiming the gospels turned out to be more support and strengthening of the historical fact nowadays and this is why 75% of scholars across all broad spectrums affirm the empty tomb. We understand that people do not generally tell stories or lies that hurt their reputation nor would they all be willing to die based on a lie. The more embarrassing it is the more reason you have to think it’s historically accurate. So, if you were in the first-century culture and you wanted to make up a story of Jesus’ tomb being empty, you would never narrative it with women as witnesses to that event. The Bible doesn’t consider women as bad witnesses obviously since the Bible is using them but the first-century culture did. There is a case for Christ. Most people who scoff at the God of the Bible, aren't honestly seeking truth or they don't believe in the first place that truth lies in Christ. It's not sincere in many cases. Christ says seek and you'll find Me.

@@psicologomiguelcisneros He is real. Jesus is real. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever Heb. 13:8. If you seek the Lord carnally, then if bounds to fail. Just like the reply of Anna, she experienced the healing power of the Lord which is one of His ministries during His life on earth. And this still exists today because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. That's the reason Apostle Paul demonstrates the power of the Holy Spirit. I too, one of my secrets from the occult was revealed by the Lord thru one of His servants as a mouthpiece by the Word of Knowledge (one of the Spiritual Gifts you can read in 1 Corinthians 12), that only the Holy Spirit can reveal so that the walls that blinded me be destroyed. The reason also the Lord reveals Himself supernaturally is because that's who He is. Supernatural beyond human wisdom and knowledge, All-Knowing, the Alpha, and the Omega. Accept Jesus Christ, cry out to Him, and be patient. Just seek Him with all your heart and you will find Him Jeremiah 29:13. He will reveal himself to you. That's what also happened to me, so many questions about Him until He revealed Himself supernaturally destroying the walls of worldly reasoning which is nonsense.

In 1910 Ivan Panin, a Russian/ American Harvard math genius and linguistic expert, proved the Bible mathematically. Watch - Math proves the Bible. Most recently a 30 year veteran cold case criminologist J. Warner Wallace proved the Bible forensically in his book, Person of Interest. His testimony would convince any jury of the veracity of the Bible. Some of the amazing things in the Bible include the prophecy of the fall of Tyre and the prophecy of Alexander the great. Bible firsts include knowing life being in the blood long before modern science, or the Bible knowing about mountains and currents in the oceans or how the earth hangs on nothing. You should know about the prophecies fulfilled by Jesus and the impossible odds of that happening. The Bible is a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eye witnesses during the lifetime of other eye witnesses. They report to us supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim that the writings are divine rather than human in origin. 2 Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

As an atheist, my heart was with John in this one. His patience and peace alone made me sympathetic to Christ.. it was evident in him. Atkins was rude and insolent. Atkins himself asserted that physics presupposes mathematics: an entirely non-empirical domain of knowledge. How can he then sit there and claim physicalism to be true? Where is the number 7? John sits there, a mathematician, as a perfect example of someone who has ‘wasted his time’ studying something that ‘can’t be tested’. Yet his entire discipline underpins Atkins’… philosophical and mathematical questions are just as important as they are seperate from empirical ones

And you'll see that kind of stiffness. You won't be as flexible as you would be if you were just unconscious." And Warner finds in the Gospel of John a key point of proof that Jesus wasn't faking it and that He really did die: a line about blood and water coming out of Jesus' body on the cross when a Roman soldier pierced him with a spear. "Water will collect in your lungs," he explained. "Now if that happens, if you pierce that cavity, you will see a separation of blood and water." It struck Wallace powerfully that John wrote of this, saying, "He was either so clever that he included some little-known biological fact that nobody would discover for 1800 years or he just reported what he saw. And as a result, we have a good piece of hidden science that confirms that Jesus actually died of cardiac arrest and was dead at the point of the body being taken off the cross."

Don’t just live your life “believing”. Biblical Christianity is coming to know the Living God personally, because he is the Holy Spirit (Spirit of God). And that Spirit enters your body when you repent and turn to Jesus Christ in complete faith as your personal Savior. A real live spirit enters your body, interacts with you, tells you he is God and incarnated as Jesus Christ, and just confirms everything in the Bible as his word. I’m speaking from personal experience. See, we don’t have to rely on some belief. First of all there’s supernatural activity all around us, so the thought that we have to actually try to believe in God is kinda foolish. But second, he actually enters your body when you come to Christ the biblical way. You’re not a Christian until you’re born again (he’s in you and living in your reborn heart). Being a Christian isn’t about believing something and that’s it, it’s about being in an actual relationship with Jesus Christ via his presence in your body. When he’s in your body, that’s more than enough proof that God is real. Why? Because *he’s in your body.* That’s why debates and arguments with atheists are ultimately a waste of time. Cause the presence of the Holy Spirit trumps all atheistic arguments.

I've never thought more than this for myself and if you'd do the same you probably wouldn't be saying this. There's a problem in that "atheism" or evolution theory just like in every other belief. You read it from books at your school, people say that school makes you smarter and you believe it because those teaching in school speak of their theory as the truth. I don't need anyone to think for me but it seems like you do when you accept that as "the truth". When you say "stupid christian" you do that from pure hate and not one bit from actual knowledge. You've let those people take your mind in their hands and form a view that you think is your own but it's not. At the end of the day it's foolish to think that science could ever answer those biggest questions which Atkins was referring to as the unneeded or fake questions. He is partly right because science can't ever answer those but it doesn't mean those questions cannot be asked nor that they wouldn't be real questions as any other question. Now if I said that Darwin knew in his own theory is incorrect (which he really knew) it's as true from my mouth as those who say it is true. That might be confusing but scientists can't actually prove it in any way in its fullest state. What I noted here in this debate was Atkins basically saying "that's nonsense", "there's no God" when Lennox was explaining himself to him. Anyway I don't need those people to think for me it's just interesting to see their arguments even tho everyone knows it leads nowhere. Please don't try to drive me to write a whole dissertation of this topic and go see the world from a perspective where no books or theories are influencing your own way of thinking. In the end everything is a belief

Ben there are many problems with what have you written. First, atheism is not necessarily belief in the non-existence of gods (gnostic atheism), it could also be not believing in god (agnostic atheism). Second atheism is not to be confused with the theory of evolution, because atheism is stance on worldviews that involve gods, if you are gnostic atheist. If you are agnostic atheists then atheism is not worldview neither a theory. Evolution through natural selection is hypothesis that has never been proven wrong and that's why we call it theory. You are misrepresenting facts with theory. Fact is based on repetitive observation, while theory is idea of how something has happened which is experimentally tested. Intelligent design doesn't come even close to theory of evolution, because intelligent design is not a scientific theory. You are also misusing the term truth, which is generally used as a property of statements which are to be tested using our senses. Truth doesn't exists as a property of reality. And evolution has never been presented as the truth rather as an idea that has explanatory power and has been experimentally verified.

@BrighterThanGold You really shot yourself in the foot by whining about "propaganda" That was a word that the Christian Church invented to describe the way they forced people to accept Christian dogma. Whoops! If you ever study actual science you'll learn that every single discovery in science has shown that natural, material phenomena have natural, material causes. There is nothing in science that has actually proved nor disproved God's existence. But I appreciate that religious belief is comforting and I'm actually happy for you that you have that in your life. All the best.
