this episode is so amazing. As an ambitious female, Asian, introverted product leader (who for first time in my life just did the "crazy" thing of quitting my job to explore what I REALLY want to do) who failed a lot, and still struggles, the message from Deb is refreshing and gives me so much hope.

This was a great podcast, but I do find it somewhat ironic that some of the core ideas Deb outlines are things she herself didn't intentionally follow. Like talking about "PM'ing your career" while describing how many of the key early roles she landed through semi-random encounters and phone calls leading to job offers. Or saying that the person you marry is so important to your career while meeting and marrying her husband before the age of 20 - to me that sounds less of a choice and more of a lucky hand. Dating in your 20s and 30s is much more challenging and different experience, compared to finding a great person on the second attempt and sticking with them for life imo (still so pleased that it's working for Deb ofc!!)

I felt seen as an introverted PM listening to Deb. Thanks a bunch, Lenny, for this episode and I promise Deb that I will write more and speak more about my work.

I have been following Deb for a couple years now. I receive her newsletter. So, her visit to Lenny's confirmed my hunch in her abilities. I appreciated her comments on zero-to-one and working on innovative products. Something from nothing.

The timing of this podcast was perfect as if an answer to several questions . It changed my perspective on self promotion, dealing with feedback, magic of sharing your thoughts via writing just once a month, how to overcome inertia by just doing it, offering help by saying what is one thing I can do for you this week, going back to the people you heard initially and sharing feedback with them, importance of building resilience, how less scrutiny fuels creativity. Where I had a difference was on having a 5 year plan. I think this sounds good in theory but in reality, in my view what really works best is to be self aware to be able to do the best one can with the present opportunity and just focus on the next step and iterate. We know what was right step in hind sight only. Thanks a ton for sharing ..this will help a lot of people.

Why are there so many books and podcast episodes about "overcoming" introversion? As if being an extrovert is some kind of fireball-mushroom for all situations in work and life.

This take was relevant 5 years ago. The new generation of great product leaders and founders have moved on and actually EMBRACE introverted product people, authenticity and neurodiversity. A lot of what came through as advice in this interview is actually hurting the introvert brand.

I wish she'd stop speaking in platitudes. 'I took the job I had and made it into the job I wanted'- Care to elaborate girl? But don't want to be overly negative - rest of this is really amazing and timely.

Very typical career path. Engineering -> consulting -> Stanford MBA -> got lucky by joining PayPal etc. Nothing to learn here just someone from a privileged education with family money going through the usual steps to get to CEO.
