It's the Catch-22 of Jay Leno. He's a big name in car circles, BUT every car guy watches Jay Leno's garage and Jay repeats the same automobile stories and anecdotes ad infinitum, ad nauseum. Then he does the same thing on the Audrain channel. Now that Jay's been on the Audrain channel, he's repeating himself in every Audrain video. "You know Donald, cars have changed drastically during the last 100 years, but except for heating and air conditioning homes have pretty much stayed the same." (See 12:25 in this video.) Car guys have already heard every thing Jay has to say about cars at least twenty times. And now we've heard everything Jay can say about Newport cottages 30 times. Jay repeating himself is even funnier given his refusal to record a comedy special because his jokes would be repeated forever.
@jamesdellaneve9005

@@jimjones-pz1tt As far as comedy specials, Jay did pretty well without it. He lived on his standup salary for decades and banked his tonight show paychecks. Jay is a senior now. As many seniors, he tells the same stories which is endearing. I am OK with it. When he dies, his fans can get together and mimic his oft used lines.

@@jamesdellaneve9005 See, you know Jay's back story as well as I and every other car guy does. They following is intentionally typed without paragraph breaks: He rolled back speedometers working at a car dealership. One time, he rolled back a speedometer on a trade in and the deal was unwound. When the owner of the trade-in got his car back, he noticed his car has 20,000 fewer miles on the odometer The dealership in Boston couldn't sell a red Rolls convertible for over a year, then they sold it to an RR dealer in California who sold it in a week. Jay never told any of The Tonight Show crew how to do their jobs. He just hired the best people and encouraged them to critique the show. In the '40s, Cadillac was the best car in the world. It had an overhead valve V8, power windows and air conditioning when Rolls Royce still had a straight six and a manual transmission. Jay's appeared at the Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach every week for over 25 years to try our new jokes. He's never missed a week. He likes the club because it's close to LAX and it gets a broad, eclectic audience. Jay didn't sue the property owner who strung a cable across the driveway which jay Leno drove into on a motorcycle/side car. He broke a collar bone and a few ribs. Jay says low self esteem is the key to his success. When his face caught fire under his White steam car, he went to the burn ward and over the doctors' objections went home so Mavis wouldn't worry. He came back the next morning after sleeping on the 3rd degree burn side of his face which stuck to his pillowcase. Jay did a mobbed-up charity gig where the mobster master of ceremony said a curse word on stage. A priest in the audience cleared his throat and the mobster screamed "Shut the f** up, you got your $5,000 donation!" That saqme mobster gave Jay and offer he couldn't refuse to play golf where on the 16th hole a couple of 50 year old hookers served drinks topless. At a party where guests included Frank Sinatra, Don Rickles and Bob Newhart, a flaming log rolled out of the firepace onto the living room floor. Don Rickles reacted like a little girl while Jay picked up the log and put it back in the fireplace. Sinatra asked Jay what he drank. Jay told Frank he didn't drink. Sinatra said, "WHAT ARE YOU DRINKING!!??!!" Jay had a gin and tonic. Jay was in Newport driving around with Mavis looking at all the seaside cottages. They spotted a really impressive one and wondered if it was for sale. The gate was open and a gardener was on the property who told Jay the place might be for sale. He met with the owner and asked if he'd sell fully furnished. Jay paid cash and closed in a week.Jay's never sold a car except for his first Tesla Model S. He's donated a few cars to various charities. Jay was tipped off about an old car in the garage of a house in Burbank. It turned out to be the last Deusenberg ever built. Jay was also tipped off about an old British car in a garage in Burbank - an XKE convertible. Jay went to the Ford dealer with his parents in 1966. His dad ordered a a new Ford Galaxie. Leno's mother let Jay select the option whereupon Jay selected the "police package" 427 engine and "muffler delete". Upon delivery, Jay's Dad thought the car was broken because it was so loud and fast. He yelled at Jay. A few weeks later, Jay found a 120MPH speeding ticket with his dad's name on it. Adam Carolla was worked as a carpenter across the street from Jay's house in California. Jay's motto is "Tell joke, get check." Jay got a free Lamborghini Miura because it was too expensive to fix..........

Perhaps one of the best car vídeos . Jay and Donald are 2 naturals. The dialog kept flowing -- 2 intelligent persons enjoying themselves and in a rather entertaining way. Here in Europe while growing up in the middle sixties, there were 1949, 50, 51 Cadillacs around Almost 20 years old, they were still highly pleasant , comfortable and, as stated in the video, imposing Vehicles. After that, Detroit lost the Magic touch and the decline took place.

What an excellent series this has been. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I do think, though, that if someone was inheriting the world's greatest fortune in 2022, they would perhaps be more likely to purchase something like a Rolls-Royce Phantom or a Maybach to be driven in, then perhaps a Jaguar F-Type or V8 Ferrari to drive themselves.

The 911 R for Rennsport is also a citate of the lightest of old 911s in 1967 Porsche sent a superlight version with a fiberglass body weighing only 780 Kilo with the 1991 ccm engine blowing 190 bhp at 6.800 rpm out an acceleration of 6.8 seconds to 100 km/h and a topspeed of 230 plus km/h. A young 30 year old chief of racing engineering named Ferdinand Anton Piëch stood behind this project. The car was so trimmed on lightness that it didn’t even have the original backlights which have been replaced by little bulb lights from the aftermarket which you normally did find on German trucks and tractors…

Jay's quite correct. "Yellow with stripes is not really subtle". I think that Donald has chosen a thought provoking group of cars, as I'd expect of him. The reserved, comfortable solid presence of the Cadillac, then the De Soto. Instead of the sober black livery, a riot of 1950s colour, but so well balanced and behind all the chrome there's a car with lovely lines - not overstated - that lead the eye from stem to stern. Virgil Exner at his best. Finally, the Porsche. If it wasn't yellow, but then again maybe if it just hadn't got the stripes, there's the same unadorned style that marks out all three cars basic shape. They all have one thing in common and that's that they look right. Seems obvious, but so many designers miss that point. For example, is there such a thing as a stylish SUV?? Anyway, thanks to both of you for some real motoring entertainment.

Another winning show. The perfect trio of cars, everyone of them the best the company made. Doris Duke was fascinating and she died in a famous home too. The jab at Jay being a "gate crasher" could also pertain to Ms. Duke. Was that intentional? Touche! Excellent.

When I was a kid, (I'm a few months younger than Jay), one of my neighbors drove De Soto's. Due to our climate, (near Pittsburgh), we didn't really have a convertible culture in our city, so he always had coupes. As there were only himself and hjis wife, he never bought sedans. To me, they seemed "Flashy", maybe it was all that chrome. We drove a 1956 Pontiac "Sky Chief" ?, (maybe, I do remember an Indian Chief design on the car), with a beautiful two-tone paint with Yellow over White. I remember that we drove to Miami Beach in that car and my brother and I had a cigar box full of crayons on the back seat shelf. When we got to a motel one evening, they had melted through the box onto the shelf. If I ever see that car again, I will recognize the stain from all the colors. That was also the last car my Dad bought that did not have air conditioning, as he had a habit of driving one-handed with his left arm out of the window. He got a very bad sunburn on that arm only. That was also the year that the motel we were staying at, had built a second unit across the street and the manager offered my Dad a deal to move us across the street and while we were there, a photographer took photos of my brother and I, as well as other people, to use in the brochure to "spread the word" on the new unit. We were able to get a few of those brochures before we left to show our school friends later, but we don't have them any longer.

A few comments about this video: 1. When Mr. Osborne says "Jay, you're such a gate crasher," I wondered if it was a nod and a wink obliquely recognizing that Doris Duke ran over and killed one of her employees in 1966 when he opened the gates at Rough Point. His comment follows Jay's about Duke's fortune in the tobacco manufacturing business being responsible for the deaths of millions who smoked cigarettes versus people who are killed driving Porches. If that was indeed the case, it was a very sly reference from Mr. Osborne. 2. Doris Duke's grandfather gave generously to a Durham , North Carolina college and subsequently changed it's name. You may have heard of it: Duke University. 3. Jay is finally showing some interest in the estates he visits. Though I would like to see more of them, especially the ones that are open to the public. 4. Love the Chrysler, especially that dashboard!

Being asked what sort of car he would have liked to create , if he were not head of VW from new , he said that he would like to recreate the NSU TT totally bodied from Carbon lowering the weight from 750 Kilo to 600 Kilo using a highperformance 1.0 Liter turbo engine with 160 Hp as underground mid engine like in the 914 and the VWType 3 . With 3 litres of consume of petrol and 3 seconds of acceleration to 60 m/h

The video - very well done, thank you two - in its brief rude entertainment reminds me of a painful episode of Leno's Garage where Mr. Leno has a friend drive around an old car with himself as passenger. The friend, lacking experience and fine controls over his own neuro-motor system, is in no way able to operate the car without hiccups, rasping teeth and causing the car to fit-start around. Needless to say both have a disturbed look on their face and potentially this is where the friendship ended. Because it seemed the friend made no effort whatsoever to apply any fine motor skills of his - how could he, not having them and going through life entertaining people by violating social rules. Here, the blue jeans signal "no blue blood" is more than enough and the rude manners are superfluous. It's when a perfectly likable guy causes cringing. When you are wealthy, the first thing to learn is to distinguish the yes-nodders that always act as if you are always right from the ones you really need. If you don't, you start believing it and may end up in a gated mansion trying to commit a coup d'état.

I love Jay Leno but it's a damn shame that a guy who doesn't "get" the firebird emblem has all these amazing Firebirds and Trans Ams while I, who adores them and "gets" the firebird, can't afford one. I am glad that he's at least protecting these rapidly disappearing cars (1967-2002).
