This is the Porsche that I think I would be happy with for many years. I would not intentionally take it off the road. I wouldn't take it on the track. But, I would drive it daily with a huge smile on my face. Just getting in and out of it comfortably would put another smile on my face. No decals, no goofy colored wheels, no tail on it but in orange with a custom interior would put another smile on my face. Wonder if Singer would tweak it?

I may have actually seen the 1984 winning Porsche on the Dakar rally, as for that year only the event passed through where we lived at the time. I think the Dakar will be the perfect supercar for Countrys with a lot of poorly surfaced roads!👍🏽

A very mature sensible description of a fine automobile. But I noticed the mention of a cost premium over a Carrera 4. Do they both use the same all wheel drive and besides the ground clearance of the Dakar, is the ride very much different, to warrent the cost difference?

A dual clutch gearbox is most definitely not a manual gearbox. It has two clutches with even and od gears on one and the other. There is no way to make a dual clutch manual. It would be like saying because it has a clutch it is a manual, or a automatic because it had very similar gears and synchromesh it could be a manual.

Many amazing destinations with only dirt road access that can get rough and muddy. Why not drive an SUV that's also a rear-engined 2 seater with 473 HP AWD and a suspension that raises 3 inches for off road! And no rattles!

I think this will be second in my Porsche to buy list just after the GT4RS, but it will be my daily driver for sure, now why 2nd ? The noise on the GT4 is outstanding and the capabilities take that Porsche to a crazy level of performance and perfection. I need those two.

Actually dual clutch is an automatic manual. Two sets of gears - not a fluid filled system torque based - just no clutch. Porsche should add a third pedal that guys could step on when shifting with the shifter like on the gt3 or using the paddles. Just to make old guys happy,

Here's an idea: Get the Carrera 4 GTS with a proper gearbox, use your US$64000,- (!!!) savings to: raise the suspension, fit rally tires, get a roofrack with KC lights, a jerrycan and a spare tire, and get the car wrapped with the CORRECT Rothmans livery. (None of this comedy "Rough roads" nonsense, wth Porsche, could you not get the rights after all that money?)
