I took me a little over 4 hours to get the bottom cover off safely. I build desktops as a side gig. I have all professional tools, anti static pads, etc. And it was the hardest cover I ever had to remove. Make sure everything works properly before completely reinstalling cover, and upgrade it to the absolute maximum you desire, because you never, ever want to remove it again. Hardest laptop by far to open in my experience. I had to stop several times to take a break for sanity sake. That was crazy.

@bizbarley7411 ай бұрын
Bro I'm with you. After a little over 3 hours I gave up. There was too much risk to damaging the little brackets that kept the cover in place. I'm still under warranty. So I took it to a buddy that does work on laptops, and she was like: "no, no, no, I ain't messing with those!" So I'm just rocking it stock I guess. Maybe after warranty I'll try. I have all professional equipment for this type of thing. Good for you for making it. Lenovo should offer a challenge: get the cover off in less than 4 hours without doing any damage whatsoever and win a laptop carry case.

Ha. 2 years after writing my first comment here, I finally decided that the ram needed to be upgraded to 32 gigabytes. I build PCs regularly but laptops are a totally different animal. This was one of the hardest casings that I ever had to remove. I need it to use three pry tools at once. And then, to top it all off I forgot to put the ram shielding back on, as well as the second thermal shield for the additional nvme drive I added. So I had to remove it a second time. Nightmare. I broke two of the small latches connecting, but it's really no big deal. It still snaps into place fine, and with 11 screws in, that case is not going anywhere. Hell, even with two broken latches and no screws in, that case isn't going anywhere. With all the updates to the newest Windows OS and browsers and games using more resources these days, 16 gbs wasn't working for me anymore. Thanks to TeamGroup for making quality affordable modules. And thanks for this video mate. I looked for my original comment in this post, can't believe it was 2 years ago.

SSDs are becoming cheaper now and the 2TB is almost the same price as the 1TB was 2 years ago.

@@PulsarTECH Oh yeah, thats fun. I just got a request to build a couple budget gaming PCs that featured the old but still very good GTX 1080Ti. I really wanted to add a second SSD for storage and gameplay, as well as expanding the RAM to 32gbs, but this looks very difficult. All my other laptops had very easy to reach storage and RAM chips. This is an intense adventure. Looks like I'll have to pay a pro to do this. Oh well, thanks so much for this video. I've built 4 PCs in the last year for gaming, but I ain't going near this one, it's a warranty void waiting to happen. I wish they made the RAM and storage more easy to access, I guess it all has to do with the Legions excellent thermal system, oh well. One question, if I buy the components, like the RAM sticks and a m.2 ssd expansion, how much does it cost to have a licensed professional install it on average?
@PulsarTECH2 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's too difficult, everything like I've showed in the video, download a service manual for your laptop and take your time, do it slowly, no rush. The most difficult part will be the side vents but it's doable with some patience. I can't say how much it will cost because it all depends where you are and the shop rate. Just give them a shout and find out. It shouldn't take more than hour for you to do it, and for a pro maybe like 15 mins. Good luck!

@@PulsarTECH I have the manual. I actually contacted Lenovo about it to see if upgrading voided warranty. @@bizbarley74 I agree, if something breaks like plastic cover they won't warranty that. But RAM and storage upgrade are the most common and they don't void the warranty. So as long as you do it carefully it will be alright. But of course, you can always take it to the repair service computer shop and they will gladly do it for you for some cash. @PulsarTECH Жыл бұрын
Hi, unfortunately no because the top speed of an NVMe SSD using the PCIe 3.0 interface is around 3,940 MB/s (3.94 GB/s) for sequential read and 3,200 MB/s (3.2 GB/s) for sequential write speeds. These speeds are theoretical maximums and can vary depending on the specific SSD model. The newer models I think from 2022 have a PCIe 4.0. The top speed of an NVMe SSD utilizing PCIe 4.0 is around 7,880 MB/s (7.88 GB/s) for sequential read and 6,250 MB/s (6.25 GB/s) for sequential write speeds.

Hi, the 2021 Lenovo Legion 5 has a PCIe 3.0 only, so it's limited to that standard. I don't think you can get anything higher then 3500 MB/s. To achieve speed of 7000 MB/s you would need to have a PCIe 4.0 capable motherboard with a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. I think 2022 Pro models have PCIe 4.0 on board.

Once while using it the speakers stopped working but i didnt think much of it because i mostly used headphones. I have noticed a bulge on the left side of the keyboard(the area above the windows key) that i believe wasnt there before. When i press on the bulge a connection is made underneath that allows my speakers to work. They wont unless im pressing on that bulge. Although i dont personally use the speakers, i am thinking of selling the machine and i want it to be as perfect as possible before doing so. I think i may have forgotten to tighten a screw but the ones on the back are all fine. I need to open it again to check the screws on the inside but before i do so i would appreciate any information that could help me along the way.

how do I access the bios? it says to input a system password, which I never did before.
@PulsarTECH Жыл бұрын
By default, a brand new laptop should not have a BIOS password unless it has been manually set up by someone. Typically, manufacturers do not preconfigure BIOS passwords on new laptops. This allows users to set up their own passwords or leave the BIOS password field blank. If you have recently purchased a brand new laptop, it is unlikely that you will encounter a BIOS password unless it has been specifically set by you or someone else. If you are prompted for a BIOS password on a new laptop without having set one yourself, it is recommended to reach out to the laptop manufacturer's customer support for assistance. They can provide guidance on how to address the situation and potentially remove any unexpected BIOS passwords.
