Booting shouldn't be any longer than usual, if you have a black screen there must be incompatibility with the RAM or maybe it's not properly installed. Does it turn on at? Do you have the keyboard lights on, fans working?

This is the most difficult part of all the disassembly, so you need a very thin guitar pick pry bar tool for it, you can get it online in kits for cell phone repairs usually. Just gotta be patient and keep pressing little by little until you feel it click, don't rush it, just take your time.

Hi, that's true and in case for the 8GB RAM modules you can't say a 100% but usually anything more than 8GB such as 16 & 32GB RAM sticks are dual rank. Less than 8GB most likely single rank. Hope this helps!

@@lovechcitizen4448 no necessarily. The difference in performance is not much between the dual and single rank. Better look for a higher frequency (like 3200 MHz is optimal), and lower CAS latency. But in reality, we are not talking about a huge increase in performance. If you don't do benchmark tests everyday, it's will be hard to notice any difference in performance. But on another hand more capacity is really helpful.

Hi, sorry to hear that. Remove one RAM stick and test the laptop with just one installed in Slot 1. If it doesn’t work, try the other stick in the same slot. Test both sticks in Slot 2 as well. This will help identify if one of the sticks is faulty or if one slot has an issue. Improper seating of the RAM can cause this issue. Remove both sticks and reinsert them carefully until they click firmly into place. Revert the BIOS settings to default if they were modified. Hope this will help!

Hi, you're welcome! According to Lenovo, the product specification reference says only up to 32GB, but mine says the same thing and it works fine with 64GB. The processor itself should not be limited to only 32GB of RAM. According to Intel, the desktop version can handle 128GB, but with mobile devices, there are usually only 2 slots for RAM, and the max DDR4 memory module is 32GB, totaling 64GB. Let me know how it goes!

Hi Paul, good question! The OS is not limited to 32GB of RAM, for a 64-bit OS one can have up to terabytes of RAM. But on this particular laptop due to the the amount of memory slots and maximum size per memory module, one can only have 64GB at max.

Hi, I have the same Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H and it supports 64 gigabytes of RAM. For some reason, the manufacturer doesn't specify this in their documentation. I think this is the same case for you.

For this laptop, 3200MHz is the maximum supported RAM speed. While there are modules available at 3600MHz or 4266MHz, they may be hard to find and may not work at their rated speeds. In reality, for DDR4 RAM, speeds higher than 3200MHz are generally unnecessary.

I did see that bios doesn’t have any xmp profiles (unless there’s been an update since) just wasn’t sure if amd worked a bit different with memory than intel in the past. I use mine daily it’s been 2.2 years since purchase light gaming and Davinci resolve. Planning to upgrade to 64gb. So much hoopla about 1 rank and 2 rank and then later showing co fusing results I never quite figured out if it actually makes much difference. Mine has the 32gb from the factory I heard they were dual rank but not sure 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm not sure why they state only 32GB of RAM, if the CPU is capable of using all 64GB and everything else is set up to utilize 64GB. Same thing with the SSD upgrade, they say the max is 1TB, while I've got the 2TB, and some people have installed 4TB and it works fine. I'm actually thinking about upgrading to another 2TB SSD instead of original 512GB. If you're worried it's gonna work or not, do the installation within the 14 days period of return, and if for some reason, it's not working, just bring it back.

Hi, it's rock solid. I'm running Premiere Pro renders frequently and it makes my CPU happy, it works way less than with 16GB. 16GB is a bare minimum nowadays, 32GB is okay for most users but since it's not an expensive upgrade anymore, why not use all of the potential of 64GB.

Update: it's been running rock solid on 64GB ram for over 1 year now. I bought: "Corsair Vengeance Performance SODIMM 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 Unbuffered" which was marketed for Ryzen 4000 series laptops but it works perfect. Just order the ram and pop it in. It's that easy

Hi, if you have a ddr5 memory it should be even faster than dd4, at least in theory. As far as the memory size, I'm happy about this upgrade because now the laptop doesn't run out of memory even during most demanding projects in Premiere Pro and honestly it uses way more memory now which makes me think that before it was trying to shrink memory usage due to its lack.

32GB would be sufficient for the most cases but if you're doing video editing, 3D work then the more the better. I would rather wait and get the 64GB because then you won't have to throw away the 32GB if you want to upgrade to 64GB. But of course it all depends on your goals.

@@bramin420 I haven't noticed any problems with memory temperature, in fact I never even look at it. The processor can get pretty hot up to 100C, so I had to get an additional cooling pad for my laptop, now it works cooler. Also I try to avoid the performance mode especially when it's hot outside because than it can really get hot and throttle. I've got a short on my channel for cpu temperature monitoring.

I think you can actually go higher the max is just the tested stable maximum lenovo tried in factories, just like the manual says only 32gb ram is supported but you can use 64gb I think even 128gb would work (but that is overkill) and I think you could even put 2, 4tb nvme's in and they would work fine it's just that lenovo didnt 'test' it

Hi, make sure that your laptop supports PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. Lenovo Legion laptops 2021 only have PCIe 3.0 but since PCIe 4.0 is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0, you can still use it with that laptop as well. If the price is the same I would choose the PCIe 4.0. But the latest PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs are pretty expensive.

No ,it's not but if you're doing anything like video editing or 3D work then the laptop can benefit from having extra amount of RAM as you can tell from the video. I think 32GB is plenty for 90% of the cases but since the RAM prices are pretty acceptable then why not use it. I'm sure if it will be possible to get 128GB of RAM on a laptop such programs as Adobe Premiere Pro could use it for example when working with 4K or higher footage.

Hi, I would stick to the famous brands such as Transcend, Kingston etc. The non-name RAM is difficult to tell if it's good or not, it could be just as good as the brand one but may not be good. The specs that you've shared is for the desktop computers RAM. If you would like to upgrade your laptop with the 64GB of RAM, the best you can get is CL20 from Kingston Fury is believe. And the voltage is 1.2V. 1.35V is used for the desktop DDR4 with an XMP profile (basically overclocking). Hope this will help.

Hi, the manual states up to 32GB, but if you search for the maximum RAM supported by Intel's 10th Gen Core i7 mobile processors, it says 64GB is possible. I believe it can handle 64GB, just like mine. AMD and Intel try to stay competitive, so I don't think it's likely that a same-tier processor from AMD can handle 64GB of RAM while Intel cannot. But, of course, you can verify this information with the genius tech support. Hope this helps!

A quick question. I just upgraded my SSD's. Should I get a heatpad for the new second NVMe SSD (and if yes, where can I buy one)? On the left side I only had a tray for a sata SSD which I removed so I can install the second NVMe SSD.

If there's another M.2 NVMe slot then you can install it. You can use the default heat sink that comes with the laptop or if there's one on an SSD already just use it. If your SSD came without the the heat sink, I would recommend looking for one in any computer store online.

But after a shutdown it doesn't boot, If I force shut down again, and turn it on again it works fine, but after next shutdown it doesn't work and the loop is going on and on. If this started after installing new RAM, most likely it's related to new RAM. Double check if it's installed properly. Are you using 2 different sticks of RAM of different size? Or just one?

@@PulsarTECH the cpu and gpu on my laptop tend to run max 70c but as of lately though I've been starting to spot max temps around 200 Fahrenheit which I've since switched to Fahrenheit and I believe that is close to 100c the problem is the averages are typically way lower and its hard for me to spot just when their hitting these high temps and for how long they're staying there. I think its rarely hitting those temps and has to do with giving the laptop room to breath. I've noticed now when I prop the rear of the laptop up a lil giving the fans more room for intake it tends to run way way cooler and goes back to never going above around 150degree Fahrenheit aka 75celcius so air flow obviously plays a huge role. My laptop is fairly new to me but was a open box deal and when I did some research I found its already a year and a half old from date of manufacture and had 8 cycles on the battery when new 1 or 2 cycles likely were from me though. That being said I've been debating whether it makes sense to take apart the laptop and repaste the Nvidia gpu die and amd apu and to put new and better paste and pads where needed maybe even switch to liquid metal for the gpu and apu. Its a lenovo legion 5 slim gaming laptop and I imagine they likely use decent quality thermal paste and pads from the factory. I did already clean out dust from the inside when I went to upgrade the second m.2 slot to a new 4tb ssd card a week ago.

Ps the temps tend to mostly get high on my memory readings so likely the pads on my vram either need replacing upgrading or might not have pads at all. I have to research that a bit but the memory is whats constantly hitting 200c now the rest is a tad bit lower when I go into gpuz to check max temps after gaming sessions. The max typically for the gpu and hot spot are around 180f or 90c but the average will be around 120f to 140f or 60c to 70c during a hard-core fully gpu usage gaming session.
