Besides, where are you going to be doing intensive tasks that drain the battery quickly, but don't have access to a power outlet for hours and hours at a time? In the middle of nowhere, working off of hotspot from your phone? Your phone would die before either laptop would. And 3 to 4 hours is pure BS, unless you're a complete noob that runs full power just for checking emails, and working on excel spreadsheets lol. Learn how to optimize your resource usage.

I've been a fan of the Legion series and previously owned a Legion Slim 7i from last year. It was an incredible powerhouse from the money, but for the $4000 price, I'll be honest: I would choose the Macbook without hesitation. I would take my Macbook i9 from 2019 on travel simply for the performance on battery, the Legion required me to find a plug to get the full performance and the fans were insanely loud. But if Legion took the price down to $3000, I would say that would be more competitive.

Just got into legion and got a 7 slim gen 8 4070 i9 for 1350 don’t have spend that much is if getting it gaming. The legions 7 gen 8 4090 preform the so similar for half the price. You’re literally paying for the display because the legion 7 slim has the best build quality out of all the legions.

Not a huge Mac fan, but I wish there were more PC laptops that had an understated case design without RGB, ran cool and quiet and had similarly good performance on battery. Currently have an Asus G15 from the year Asus thought it was a good idea to forgo a web camera (right in the middle of the pandemic), but hope to upgrade to a Framework laptop in the future if the 16 is any good. The Legion seems like a good laptop, but I really don't like the aesthetic and prefer the design of Lenovo's Thinkpads, though they tend to be overpriced vs gaming laptops.

@@HDRPC I use a M1 macbook as a graphic designer 6 hours of photoshop. Almost 4 hours in after effects. I game on a desktop pc and also edit video. For 3D I also rather go with windows instead of apple. I havent had an ultrabook but those Lenovo slim 9 and Asus Zenbooks seems that can handle productivity tasks and photoshop for like 3 to 4 hours? AND while not great at gaming it can run more games natively than a macbook

Nice bit of kit but very expensive and therefore a niche product. Certainly not on my radar because of the price no matter how good it is. But for those that can afford it, then definitely shortlist material for a home rig. I would still suggest something more practical for a second machine for portability off the mains.

I personally use Parsec, a low latency gaming remote desktop service. I have my own desktop and M1 MacBook Air. This allows me to have the great battery life when browsing the web while not sacrificing battery life to run super intensive tasks. I don't have to pay a super high premium for RAM and storage as well as coming home to a wonderful desktop setup; the only issues are file syncing and network. Meaning that everything depends on network. Things work great between my parents house and my own place (roughly 3 hours away) as long as the network is strong (get around 30ms latency). I don't do fast paced gaming, but things like diablo 2 resurrected works fine, running LLM and Stable diffusion is great. I can also do things like development and virtual machines without issues.

😅 The people saying to unplug it and see, i get it already! But you don't buy this to render animated 3d scenes at the cafe or to run Cyberpunk 2077 at the park at max res with options maxed out. If battery life and unplugged performance are critical for you, consider Apple's M1-3 MacBooks. If sustained peak performance in a 'luggable' form factor with modest unplugged mobile chops, something like this might be what you need.

Why do people keep saying this is the "most expensive laptop ever"? It's cheaper than the Razor Blade 16 ($4299), its the same price as the Acer Predator Triton 17x ($3799), if we're comparing laptops with mini-LED, 4090's, and all metal builds. The Legion's price is comparable to Alienware's less well built options once you add a coupon code.

They use "Estimated value" which is a fictional number: "Estimated value is Lenovo’s estimate of product value based on industry data, including the prices at which Lenovo and/or third-party retailers and e-tailers have offered or valued the same or comparable products. Third-party data may not be based on actual sales." You'll never buy a Lenovo for this price. It's a marketing trick that is unfortunately quite anti-consumer. The real retail price for a legion 7 or 9 series is 10% below the EST. When on sale it is an additional 5-10% below this. The prices I listed are all prices you can buy these computers for today, which is the only consistent comparison available.

It would be interesting to see how it performs against the M3 Max. In CPU Apple should have a huge advantage given that the M3 Max is already significantly better than i9 14th gen. Yet in GPU tasks should be the Lenovo that wins unless the task requires a lot of Vram which the Macbook should have an advantage in the higher spec models. In mixed tasks should be very interesting what the winner would be.

The performance doesn't matter if the battery dies in 2 hours in demanding workloads and the performance is heavily throttled when, you know, you use it portable. Macbooks are far better currently.

The facts are that (in some workflows) the Windows laptop will complete tasks much faster and more effectively than the MacBook. For example 3D rendering - it will be 4-7 times faster on the Windows laptop. And no, you shouldn't "may as well buy a desktop". Some people like the portability of a laptop. I'm not saying either option is better than the other. Both MacBooks and Windows laptops have their own strengths and weaknesses and people can choose which suits their workflow better.

I've owned several IBM laptops in the past before thinkpad became lenovo. Honestly lenovo design is kinda crap. Microsoft surface 5 looks way better. I just got surface 5 laptop for work, but it doesn't really compare to M1max macbook pro. The screen of macbook pro beats 90% of the windows laptops. I never used to care and felt Apple's hype was non sense. After using M1Max for a few weeks I got spoiled. When I look at macbook pro and surface 5 side by side, there's just no comparison. As my eyes get older and worse, Macbook pro screen makes a difference.

The whole point of a gaming laptop is to not be tethered to your couch. I work in IT and travel a lot to different sites that I support, and when I go out of town, or have some downtime in my office, it's amazing to be able to just alt tab over from work mode, to get in a 30 minute to 1 hour gaming session, then alt tab right back over to working again. Gaming anywhere there is a power plug is the main advantage of a gaming laptop.

Apple will never get into the serious portable gaming market because the excessive power draw, heat, and fan noise goes against their entire premise of moving to an ARM based architecture and having some of the coolest and most silent computers. I know we always imagine what it'd be like gaming like this on a Mac, but game developers and Apple themselves won't touch that market.

The only way that thing is more powerful than a macbook is when you keep it plugged in at your desk. At that point you might aswel buy a desktop pc. Once on battery, a base macbook air could probably outperform it. Not to forget that the battery will last like 3h tops while doing anything more than web browsing. MacBooks are by far the best laptops on the market as of now, especially high-end laptops.
