The Yoga Duet 7i is a lot like the Microsoft Surface Pro. A LOT! My favorite feature here is the bluetooth keyboard cover. The bad news is that the Pen feels very similar to the one on the Surface Pro so you are going to see a lot of wave and jitter.

Nice! You should review more 2-in-1 devices like this, for artists and digital-note takers alike :D I'm glade you covered the Yoga Duet because most reviewers forget anything other than the Surface Pro exists. Edit: few other tablets that you could maybe review: HP Elite X2, Dell Latitude 7320, Lenovo Thinkpad X12, Acer Switch series, HP Elite Folio (ARM), and Samsung Galaxy Book S (also ARM). There's also convertible 2-in-1 laptops, just way too many to list here.

I've been using Lenovo Yoga 520 for the last few years . It's served me well on every aspect. I bought it for a good deal when it's first came out, for 800$ in Thailand . Still happy with it but now you made me want a new one haha.

Hey, Brad! Love your videos, even though I'm not a creative type, but I love your presentation. Anyhoo... I bought one of these puppies in December when there were next to no reviews for them. I am a Proofreader, and as such, needed something portable & light, and was running the full Windows OS. Naturally, I looked at the Surface Pro, but hated the fact that the keyboard and pen were separate purchases. That really affects the price, and MS and Apple are not playing nice with their consumers. The Lenovo popped up on my radar, and the fact that the pen and keyboard were included made a huge impact on my decision. Plus, it was on sale at the time, so I snagged it for US $750! I have the exact configuration that you do, and it is perfect for my needs. I use the pen for editing documents and note taking, which it is great for. It DID stop working mysteriously for a couple of weeks, but then went back to normal all by itself, so I suspect that it was Windows and not the actual pen. It's been fine since. So far very happy with it. My only gripe really is that there is no storage for the pen. If manufacturers are going to bundle pens, then please give us some way to store it, or at least attach it magnetically. And the speakers are rather "meh", as you said. Loud enough to fill a decent-sized room, but a little too tinny for my taste. Like you, I wear headphones if I'm doing any serious listening. All in all, a serious competitor versus the MS Surface Pro.

Hey Brad, been a fan for a long while (got my first surface due to your recommendation). I wanted to weigh in on the jittery lines issue. It actually has to do with windows (rather windows updates) and not the pen itself. I am currently using a Lenovo yoga 730 for work on the go and windows update frequently destroys the pen lines in PS. Most of the time its actually pretty awesome and lines have been consistent with the Dell Canvas and iPad. My Surface pro 3 was also rendered unusable for about a year until an update fixed the pen....and now works better than when I got it. So for everyone that has a windows pro account ... I would recommend disabling updates so you are completely sure your pen will continue working properly. For home edition unfortunately there aren't any easy ways to avoid updates.

My Lenovo Yoga laptop uses a Wacom pen - did they drop the tech in this Duet? That kind of sucks. I will say, the S-pen in my Note 10 is far superior. Excellent review!!

For the surface, all models from 2 and up, you can buy 3rd party Bluetooth detachable keyboards/typecover that function when both attached and detached

Another things that Lenovo do better is their software. You can customize pen button as you like with Lenovo Pen Settings.

There are a lot of third party keyboards (read: less expensive also) that basically give you the same detachable keyboard feature on the surface. They're magnetic so they won't flop down either.

These are discontinued. They went on sale for literally like $650 bucks for the i7 model, with the keyboard and everything. And they went out of stock. Not too long after they started showing discontinued

For palm rejection, their is option in settings if you enable that then while using pen it don't consider hand touches.

Hmm. Still not sold about this over the Surface Pro. It has thinner bezels, bluetooth keyboard, and a couple hundred dollars cheaper. But in return I'm losing the magnetic pen, a keyboard that slides when closed, worst speakers, assuming worst camera, worst color calibration, and lower resolution. If the pen was better than yeah I think it's a decent challenge to the Pro. Unless someone absolutely needs that bluetooth keyboard, for a couple hundred dollars more you get something with more quality of life to it, which is really important when one is spending over a thousand dollars already That's my opinion tho. I was hoping the 7i could outdo the Surface, but there's too many quirks I don't personally want to see on a $1000+ device

I've been using surface book 2 for 1 year and a half, and for sure, I grow tired of the wave line. Unfortunately, I don't have space for a screen tablet, like wacon (not sure if I ever will). I'm considering buying a Galaxy tab 7 from Samsung, to become my main drawing device 🤔 PS: The palm rejection of krita is perfect 👌

In the UK it is £950 for the i7/512gb/8gb inc pen and keyboard (sale) so is a comprehensively better value than the always overpriced SP7, which would be in excess of double the price!!! We know with the Surface line you are paying the premium to have that MS logo and value has never been part of the package. I think for a student the Yoga is clearly the better choice and pretty much not even a choice. In fact, hard to even make a case for the SP7 unless you have an affiliation with MS and have to be seen to be loyal.

@@lexwaldez MS is really now a Cloud-based profit-making machine (50% profits and growing). It is clear where the real investment is being channelled? There is a lot wrong with MS strategy but being close to a monopoly with hardcore fanbases they can underperform and still be praised beyond reason. My solution; split the Cloud business from the software and Surface line and a total restructures including killing legacy support. I think they are gradually working out their mistakes, W10X being a part-solution, but like Intel, they have become lazy and lacklustre and need a reboot!

I believe this is a Wacom AES pen, as opposed to the Wacom EMR pens used in Samsung tablets. So both are Wacom, but EMR is a much better drawing experience.

I am thinking of buying 2in1 laptop but don't know if I should get a flip or detachable and yes this confirm my intuition that the yoga duet can't you know close together with the laptop like you tried, which means it is simply like a tablet with a keyboard.

That pen would be a huge deal breaker for me. I had a Mixx 7 before and at least the pen could be exchanged for a Wacom pen, but only having 8Gb of RAM at the time wasn’t enough for me. I would need 16Gb at least on a windows device.

I finally found one. A tiny travel size that works well for all those keyboard shortcuts. It is the Fosmon mini bluetooth keyboard. (QWERTY keypad) with built in touch pad.

I got a surface pro that I adore, but it's pretty fragile and I wouldn't reccomend it for any type of gaming because it overheats. I'm not sure if you'll find any 2 in 1 that doesn't have that issue with games though

@@koi3445 Maybe a regular Yoga Book or thinkpad would be better? They are heavier duty, so definitely better for gaming, but they still have touch screens! They are also (usually) a bit cheaper and more durable - perfect as long as you don't mind the weight

Great review as always. Tho kind of scratching my head where you seem to down play battery life. As 3-4hrs. is a fail for many. Why I returned my Surface Go for the SP6. Can't see a student artist wanting this out and about in school. As 6-8hrs is required for many as their all day devices. I would think that battery life would be a top 3 need for a on the go mobile device. And why I passed on the Surface Pro 5 as most stating 4-6hrs max and waited for the SP6 which gives me 7-8 light to medium use. And solid 5-7hrs of heavier drawing sessions.

With the surface pro 7 there is way to solve the key board when not attached but right clicking on the task bar and select touch keyboard and that may solve your key board short cuts

This is Wacom AES, isn't it? If it really is then that mean AES is not good enough for you. Btw, I am just seeking clarification on how long will the battery last when it is separated from the keyboard? because some other reviewers said it only lasts for 1 hour, which is too short.

I'd recommend trying out the program tablet pro. A bit fiddly to set up but makes drawing on windows much neater without a keyboard.

The price is around $250 for a 16 inch pen display, by the way most Bosto tablets are cheap you can buy a 22 inch display at $450 or less it depends what country you live.

You could save money when using a Surface Pro when you buy a cheap BT keyboard to use while drawing. Saves you quite some money and you have a smaller and cheaper solution. Gets you 4 gigs of memory...

Wish these OEMs would do 2 things. Go Wacom EMR or use one of the good alternatives. And Utilize AMD CPU/APUs instead. They are simply far better than anything Intel has to offer, yet still not more expensive.

One thing I don't understand abour computer Companies. In their very small phone, they can put a 100 plus mega pixel camera into it but on a pad or a laptop, they cannot use the high pixel cameras. Not one company but all companies. Am I missing something here or it impossible to put in a high quality camera in laptop or pad computers?
