Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 initial review - It's a Multimedia Beast

Here's my unboxing of the Lenovo Yoga Tab 13.
I test the majority of the devices multimedia features and have to say this is a beast of a device.
It's killer feature is the external monitor mode, yes this tablet has HDMI in so it can be used as a display for Games consoles and PC's!

I've just ordered one of these. It's great to see how excited you get by this tab. I have a smaller and slower 10" version. Excited for the upgrade and love that it can also act as a second monitor for my PC or laptop. 🤣

Thank you so much! Any chance you can test the latency when using as external screen? I have a Trident 3 that can be carried on plane, if this screen has decent latency, e.g. 4ms, then I can play PC online games at hotels🤪 But if the screen has noticeable lag when moving mouse, it may only be a Netflix/KZbin display. And can it charge other devices through the USB-C? I know that my Mac will most likely charge it instead, what if you connect a phone to it? Will the phone be charged? So that I can use my phone as a hotspot without worrying about the battery life🥳

Hi Barry, I've not as yet, I've used Chrome OS on an old PC though that had poor specs. It ran really well as Chrome OS does not use a lot of CPU / RAM unlike windows based computers. If you want a simple computer for browsing the Internet, some word processing and spreadsheets they are great. An Android tablet and a keyboard can do a lot more though for a similar cost, the Samsung ones have DEX which behaves very like Chrome OS but you can get a lot more apps.

Hi yes you can definitely expand this way, I have a USB c hub and can connect hard drives / flash drives to it

@@techanorak5210 Since you do not seem to have the same issues as I have, can you please tell me which brand you use concerning the USB-C-thumbdrive/HDD? Coz my dongle with card reader isn't even seen by the system and it's just a normal dongle used without flaws on my Windows PC. Do I have to regard a certain standard?

Hi I belive just the micro hdmi unless you use a USB Type-C hub, not sure if the board has OTG though will check.

Got it from Amazon. And I have a 6 year old fully functional Android TV box with Android 6 from X-Gody. They build mostly underground tech stuff. Difference? I can connect external drives, card readers etc. to the USB-A 2.0 on the old mill with Mediathek CPU without any problems, they are read out and also written to without any problems, yes, that works with the old Android carrot. Price originally was about 80€. Lenovo with Android 12 and USB-C 3.0 and supposed OTG support? Forget it. It simply does not work. Or only sporadically with an extra Paragon app installed. But I cannot even display photos from the app, the gallery app does not even see the photos and none of the other common file explorers and no matter with which file system the SD is flashed. Price: Still between 550€ and 600€ (you can get it in the US from 350$US). Lenovo, what's wrong with you? I bought the box to be able to do office work and a bit of amateur video editing on it. In contrast to the Android TV box with Marshmallow (6 generations of Android in between and a total low-budget product), the expensive luxury device does not even have an SD card slot or a headphone jack. That is even more crazy because I absolutely love the form factor. The speakers are a dream. The display is good enough and Netflix and Amazon Video run at full resolution. Together with my Logitech MX Keys Mini keyboard, which fits perfectly in terms of dimensions, you would theoretically have a great laptop replacement, just with Android. But no, Lenovo can't get it to really think things through, and the fact that my ancient Android box can do things that this overpriced thing can't speaks volumes. Apart from that, the device is only offered in the 128 GB version in Germany. But that doesn't really matter. I got it from Amazon and now it's going back to Amazon. Maybe I'll take a look at the Duet 5, which is at least also available with 256GB. But the technology of the Duet 5 in the form factor of the Tab 13..but why would they want to give us that, they'd rather work with some cheap fabric-covered plastic case with a keyboard WITHOUT backlight. Greedy stupid Lenovo. Actually, you should boycott something like that.

Hi thanks for the comments really appreciate the time taken. You are definitely right modern devices cut back on simple things that should be standard such as the SD card. Apple started this and everyone followed like a sheep. It's a shame the tablet didn't work for purposes you mentioned it is a great device, you could HDMI the old android box to it and use it as a display at least though. 🤣

NTFS only works with paragon, or you need root to install the NTFS lib files. Or you could format your devices as exFAT

@@techanorak5210 Right.. ridiculous as sh* but I could..if I hadn't sent it back to the Amazon dealer. I feel especially Lenovo does this, putting a high price tag on things that ain't worth it, e.g. see their folding tablet.. They once earned a reputation selling good devices for a decent price and I still own two of their Yoga Books, the Android version. That thing sold for 500€ and the Windows version for 600€ those days. This tablet only spots a Micro USB but with a dongle I am able to connect card readers and other stuff flawlessly. It even had a nice desktop mode by default, you could open windows before the Android upgrade which then felt like a downgrade rather. They should have continued to develop this beautiful device, e.g. putting a Snapdragon in there, USB-C etc. Yeah, but why...
