When I was a young lad, decent Scottish comedians were ten-a-penny. But I thought they'd been hunted to extinction in the wild, their population educed to a shuffling and confused Billy Connelly and a single, toothless Frankie Boyle kept in captivity at the BBC. But then this magnificent specimen (of breeding age!) is spotted in the inhospitable wastelands of London and there is hope. Leo, find yourself a funny wee lassie and start re-populating the species! And come to Amsterdam! Toomler is a coolest comedy venue in the world (says Doungfucking Stanhope). You'd kill it.
@RighAlban4 жыл бұрын
PeskyMuskrat Scotsman here, and I 100% agree Scottish comedy has been hunted to nigh on extinction by our own PC bourgeoisie.

@SMacCuUladh4 жыл бұрын
yeah, the old left doen't really exist anymore. It used to be about supporting working class people, now it's about virtue signalling and enjoying the aroma of your own farts.

I'm centre right - it's lovely to read this. Written by a genuine centre left leaning person. I don't call the woke 'lefties', they're radicals. The centre left and right have always been able to have a debate, it's the radicals that cause the problems. Great to hear some intelligence 👍
@terrypussypower Жыл бұрын
@@zackpenhaligon9904 I’ve always been Centre Left…at least the 1980’s version! And my dad was always centre Right…so naturally we had disagreements…but never so bad we’d be calling each other names, fighting and trying to destroy the other’s career! That’s what Identity politricks and the middle class “Cult Of Woke” has done to degenerate and disgrace the Left. They’ve sold out the working class.

Always mistrusted overtly ‘political’ comedy of any stripe. Never understood this human compulsion many seem to have to put all their political eggs into a single basket. When I assess my views on each given topic I find I am ‘liberal’ in some, ‘green’ in others, ‘conservative’ in more and ‘socialist’ in a few. The rest I haven’t made my mind up yet. Blake’s dictum I always have in mind here when it comes to these things which, for me, are under constant review: *The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind.* Or even better, this from Emerson, which captures perfectly the predicament of those toeing a party line, come what may: *A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day. - 'Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood.' - Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.* Or this from the glorious Whitman: *Do I contradict myself?/Very well then I contradict myself/I am large, I contain multitudes.)* To bind yourself to ideas one day, and then to be doomed to defend them come what may, is not worthy of the thinking human being.😳
