Woke Outrage Reaction To BBC Pilot

Following revelations that BBC comedy is a monoculture of foppish Oxbridge lefties, a BBC Radio 4 comedy pilot featuring diversity of opinion (and a couple of actual working class people) was announced recently featuring Andrew Doyle, Tony Law, George Zach, Mary Bourke, Nick Dixon and me.
Woke Twitter reacted with their usual reason and level mindedness. Here's my reaction to the hundreds of angry pink haired pronoun-listers who accused the pilot of:
1. Punching down
2. Reanimating Bernard Manning
3. Saying the N-word
4. Transphobia
5. Giving a platform to Nazis
6. Encouraging violence
7. Only having one joke
And listing the ways they're going to cancel it.
Bear in mind the pilot HASN'T BEEN WRITTEN YET - so I have no idea how it's offended so many people already.

I'm 67, so society considers me 'old'. This guy made me belly laugh very loudly. It comes to something when the minority decide what they want the majority to do. They come across as sad, pathetic, humourless and extremely childish. It really is time they wound their necks in and got a life of their own to live as opposed to try to dictate to others about how the others should live their lives.

Absolutely wonderful, LEO. And I - for one - am sick of ex-privately-educated schoolboys and girls adopting faux Cockney accents, or trying to 'come out' as comedians. I have, honestly, forgotten the last time I actually laughed at a British comedian. It may have been an old episode of 'Yes Minister'. But Rangathan and Kumar just leave me watching without so much as a wrinkle creasing my face. THEY ARE JUST NOT FUNNY!

@@iamthedalilama The two of them exemplify 'cultural difference' in my opinion. I'm especially dsappointed with Ranganathan, because I think he is Sikh; is he not? But you're absolutely correct: decent British comedians like Leo Kearse can't get a look-in, because they don't tick any boxes for the 'Diversity Champions'. I concur with you. The 'Mockney' accent is a horrible affectation. 'Sir' Tony Blair (I suppose it was fucking inevitable) had a habit of dropping his aitches and terminal 'g's, rolling up his shirt sleeves and drinking tea out of a mug rather than a cup and saucer when delivering bad news to we paupers. There is good comedy out there though. If Would I lie To You doesn't make you laugh (in particular the interaction between Lee Mack and David Mitchell), you need to go and see your doctor to have your pulse taken, because you may be dead. For genuinely beautiful, sublime British comedy, indulge me and check out Detectorists, starring and directed by McKenzie Crooke. This is why I don't go see comedy any more or watch Live at the Apollo as it all just painful and yawn worthy, nothing funny about any of it. I watch all the old re-runs of 1970's, 1980's, 1990's comedy shows as at least these are actually funny, none of the new shows of which I have tried to watch I have not found funny at all other than the tiny odd bit on the rare occasion. I am looking forward to hearing this new show and will make my mind up after I have heard it as to if it's funny. All these outrage tweets are really silly considering it hasn't been written or aired yet, all it shows is the intolerance of something that doesn't follow their doctrines , why can't we have a little diversity of comedy and opinion for a change, these control freaks are showing how out of control they are.

Bernard used to keep chickens and one morning he went down to the coop in his garden to collect the eggs. He dropped one and it rolled under his Pakistani neighbour's garden so he went round and knocked on his door. Guy comes to the door and Bernard said one of my eggs rolled under your fence, can I have it back? Oh no says the neighbour, the egg is on my property so the egg is my property too. Bernard says is it bollox, my chicken laid it so it's my egg. Oh no says the neighbour, in England possession is 9/10ths of the law so the egg is now mine. Alright says Bernard, we'll sort this out the English way, we'll take turns kicking each other in the nuts and the first one to give in means the other gets the egg. I'll go first and with that he launches his hobnails into his groin. The neighbour screams, collapses and rolls about for a few minutes then gets up with tears in his eyes and says Now it's my turn. I give up says Bernard, Keep the fking egg.

I'm Gen X and feel some guilty for having admired the wave of "alternative comedy" of the early 80s which I thought was radical, with it and cool. Too late I realised it was just a middle class purge of any alternative ideological position to their own. They tricked us with the swearing and references to naughty bits, preached socialism while feathering their own nests via the BBC and, ultimately, turned into the cultural black hole that is Ben Elton. I am truly sorry.

I do remember someone jokingly identifying as an attack helicopter which at the time was funny (can't remember who it was) I find it funny that some go to comedy clubs just so they can be offended. I never liked Roy chubby brown but never for a moment wanted him cancelled. People go to have a laugh and forget for a few hours, and if the comedy's shit word spreads and the comedian can either evolve or sink. We don't need the woke , or race baiters. They are the minority for a reason, the normal majority just get on and enjoy while sneering at these wannabe Hitlers.

When I heard about this a week or so back on social media, I said I wondered how long it would take for it to be cancelled. Seems now it is unlikely the pilot will even make it to air, probably will not even be filmed. Frankie Boyle was smart-he knew there was no future for his routine, so went woke/pandered to the wokesters, knowing the BBC would go from firing him for joking about a woman's nose to throwing insane money at him for saying how much he would like to kill Trump with a bunch of uber leftie alleged comics etc. BBC has an endless schedule for left wing comedians/political commentators with no complaints, yet as soon as they announce one show to try to add some tiny level of balance the left cancel brigade are crying blue murder.

I thought Frankie Boyle was persona non grata after making jokes about Katie Price's son. Apparently, if you're leftie enough it doesn't matter what you say. If you're not a Marxist, not only are you 'far right' but things you haven't even said are offensive. Strange world we live in.

So, so true Leo. I was left leaning for most of my life, and a big comedy fan, ‘but’ have become so disenchanted with BBC comedy over the years. It has become so left biased and essentially the same jokes keep getting recycled. It is like sweet & sour, you enjoy both the more for the contrast.

My first experience of ‘punching up’ was back in the 80s at a friend’s party in Brixton. I’m one of those people who automatically tries to say something funny when they’re feeling anxious around people; and for a shy white teenager surrounded by black guys in an energy charged situation at a time of heightened racial tension, nothing says: social anxiety quite like those same black guys asking you for social commentary on a Hip hop LP. I ended up saying the first thing that came into my head, which for some reason was: “I bet they’re never late for work.” - Ten minutes later we were all shoulder to shoulder in the middle of the dance floor pumping our fists into the air, shouting: “fight the power!” - Turns out that ‘the power’ wasn’t all white people.

I’ve thought of a very very unique piece of stand up for a black comedian. So the comedian says “hey, having parents from Nigeria/ Jamaica/ Ghana (or where ever their parents are from) is rough.” They then put on the accent of their parent and make a joke about beating them as a child. Honestly, I don’t think I have ever seen this comedy genius and definitely no black comedian has done this skit. Totally unique and obviously absolutely original and hilarious.

The mainstream zeitgeist is just a cowardly bland cultural wasteland now, not just comedy, but music as well. I think it's just a cycle though... my son's just started senior school in Glasgow and as kids do, the progressive words that the teachers present to them are relentlessly played with, mocked and turned upside down... and to be fair, I'd say the teachers deal with all that in a pretty understanding and reasonable way. I don't think that woke-ism goes as deep into society as the media often makes out, a large chunk of it is just "the spectacle".

Get real! It's endemic and very deeply embedded in schools. For decades there's been a blatant "right=evil; left=virtuous" agenda being pushed, which has driven lots of teachers that disagree with that agenda out of the profession. The vacuum this created was filled by those that feel comfortable with that agenda (and comfortable with pushing that agenda), thereby cementing the bias and enabling this woke shit to take root.
