If I didn't have your love is easily the greatest love song of all time.
@josephbrown23568 жыл бұрын
He was dark, he was edgy, he was mystical, he was spiritual, sensual, romantic and erotic. A great poet-musician such as Leonard comes our way only once. We his contemporaries are both honoured to have shared his poetry and song and saddened in his passing. His aged and battered body is broken, but not the great spirit. He has found the peace and solitude for which he searched. Rest well our friend.

To me, Cohen’s “You want it Darker” album, was Leonard writing his own epitaph.
@userstk Жыл бұрын
This is one of the three best songs on the album for me: If I Didn't Have Your Love = a devout Christian's love song for God. Leaving the Table = an atheist's parting word to this world. Treaty = an unsure Christian's struggle with creeping doubts. All three are utterly beautiful songs. Cohen wrote them all for us so we can take a pick. It makes me wonder which one he himself was.

Great text, perfect guitar, this one of the best songs of the album, but anyway, the album is perfect as a whole. Listened to it at least 10 times the last 2 days and cannot stop listening to it. Crying like a child, and happy, al together. Leonard, live another 100 years and give us more music like this.

There are two people who do not write pop music but are fantastically successful and loved: Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. I thin you are with one or t'other. I am with LC. That dies not mean I don't like Dylan, but Cohen speaks to me in a way that is so intimate that it could be me speaking. He articulates feelings that we all have but simply cannot express in the poesticy manner he always achieves.

Beautiful song from a poetic genius. I can't help thinking that it's a departure for him, though: a song of the love one person feels for one other person. Usually his subject matter eventually broadens to a much more expansive view, or else takes on some other complication. I'm hard pressed to think of another LC love song that's so straightforward.

Most hymns are insecure. Cohen's song or hymn is more secure, certainly more honest than many. It is his naked, honest plea to God that if He didn't exist and/or didn't love humanity, nothing would be real.
