i was sitting and asking god to help me deal with my anger toward those who follow the words of the pharisees, and this song came to mind, and it helped me to know, there are jews out there who do not subscribe to the murderous cult like religion that is judaism. when he says hes not their brother, hes hes own man, hes saying count me out of this kid killing cult called judaism.

My highly religious foster family was the horror story of my life. I am sure they are still considered "good people" in their community. I am pretty sure they are still alive and will probably live good lives. Another reason as to why I don't think "karma" exists, I'm actually almost convinced that if it does exist, it does so in reverse.
@angelaharris65772 жыл бұрын
They will have to answer to a higher authority. That will be their karma Hope you are not being held in fear now. It is extremely difficult to convay to people what you have gone through, but you know and recognise it so have the power to break the pattern . I wish you peace and comfort.

The song plays on words in a way that's obvious if you're familiar with Hebrew, like vulture and eagle being the same word. The peacock spreading his fan is a symbol on the uniforms of the IDF This is a song about Zionism more than anything else

This is one of the most classic and superior anti war songs ever written. You who build the altars now to sacrifice these children you must not do it anymore... that's about our soldiers, nothing but children in uniforms sent off to defend all of us. I was brought up in the 60s on Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan music, et all (Seeger, Collins, Baez, Ochs... the list goes on, and all of them contributed with timeless masterpieces). But tonight amid the building tension, horror and sadness around me, I had to hear this song.

Would God ask anyone to sacrifice their child? Surely, the Bible is written by a man not a woman and I am doubtful that such writing or acts inspired by a loving god.
@angelus823 Жыл бұрын
God was testing Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his beloved son, but in the end the only one that sacrificed their one and only son was that same God that you say is unloving. He gave you more than you could ever fathom.

"And mercy on our uniform Men of peace or men of war The peacock spreads his fan" Wow! Besides everything else, LC was also an evolutionary psychologist before evolutionary psychology!
@tovarischkrasnyjeshi2 жыл бұрын
This is evoking the imagery on the IDF uniform. There are other hints in the song that this is from a Hebrew speaker's perspective. It's about Zionism.

You either have a huge misunderstanding of what Leonard Cohen stood for… Or a huge misunderstanding of what evolutionary psychology is.

I though I saw an Eagle, it could have been a Vulture. No it was definitely a Vulture. (the US).
@dougr.23983 жыл бұрын
No, he honestly did not know. That is why he wrote it the way he did. The song is neither pro nor anti war. The closing line makes quite clear it is anti-vanity (these days, male or female). “man of peace, man of war, the peacock spreads his fan”
