He's so right, I played an oppressor (a violent nurse in a psychiatric hospital in "Takin' Over the Asylum", in a community theater) and it was straight up one of the hardest things I ever did. I had never worked with that cast before, they treated me wonderfully, and we worked together to make the audience hate my character, and roar with satisfaction when he gets his in the end. And the audience never wanted to meet me after the show. One reviewer, an actor I deeply respect, beamed at me and said, I wanted to punch you in the face. A great compliment in context.

In the film, the audience hears directly from cast and crew members who’ve worked with Tarantino over the years. Regarding the _Django Unchained_ shoot, Foxx recalled DiCaprio fretting about saying the n-word over and over in character. “It’s tough for me to say this,” Foxx said DiCaprio told him on the set. DiCaprio was apologizing to his costars between scenes, it was so hard for him to treat them that badly and keep saying THAT word. They laughed and said, "Dude, I hear that every day from people who mean it. Chill!" And that scene where Leo grabbed the woman's hair with a bloody hand? He accidentally cut himself breaking a glass and kept going. The horror around the table (especially from the poor actress) was quite sincere. Leo's tough. And so are the non-white actors who can handle a flick as traumatic as Django Unchained, especially the character SLJackson played. That movie hurt so much I watched it in 1/2 hour sessions with breaks in between.

Samual L Jackson grew up with racial segregation. He always knew the difference between malice and portrayal. It isn't whites who police the N word, it's every other race too. Mexicans i know, being one myself, also watch out for the word but we aren't seen as morally posturing. When I came to him, I asked him about something he tweeted about that day related to an add to his show being pulled from the air because it was deemed "inappropriate". I asked him about it and he went on a rant about how idiotic it was and when I asked what it was he literally just pulled out his phone and said to me "here, listen to it but go on the side so I can continue meeting everyone".
