After my son was born, I remember holding him in my arms in a chair next to my wife's hospital bed. She reached across and gave me an earplug from her phone, and played this song to me for the first time. As I listened to it, I looked at this perfect child and felt an overwhelming sense of connection. I looked back at my wife with tears in my eyes, and she just smiled back at me. I will remember that moment as long as I live.

I feel your pain and know only too well what it is like to grieve for a child. I too lost my son many years ago!😩💔 There are no words to describe the gut wrenching agony a family goes through at the loss of a child. My faith and hope is in The Lord Jesus now,to walk the narrow road,the long road of obedience to GOD that when this life is over,I and my family will be reunited with our son in whatever form and death will no longer have any power over GODs children. My prayers and thoughts to you and your family🙏🏼💖 GOD bless.

This song is special to me. When my husband was passing away, he kept saying he could see the River and that he just wanted to go to that River. Ten years ago I wanted to be taken to the river. You see.....I lost a brother to police brutality. He was about to graduate from college with a biology degree in two months, but he was taken from me during a stop light infraction. They beat and tasered him to death. When they did an autopsy on his body, they said it looked like he had been in a big accident. This song brought me to that place of when I begged God to take his place. Take ME to the river.... I'll go. But then God allowed me to meet my wife, who helped me to live. I talked with God and found out He still had a purpose and a plan for my life...so I live today walking pass the river, watching the ship go by, remembering Pierre. Gone but not forgotten. Rest in peace baby brother. See you on the other side of the river.

Yesterday was the 45th anniversary of my brother drowning. We were a year and six days apart. Yesterday morning was Sunday. unaware it was June 27th, I was sitting in the shade praising God as that is how I attend church. Listening to a song about Gods love this song popped in my mix. I had never heard it. I have had God show me many times that my brother called out to him in his struggle in the water and that we would someday be reunited. I have heard his voice and his death is what led me to salvation through Jesus Christ. I thought as the song played, "This song reminds me of the attitude my brother had the night before he drowned." He had been in trouble with the law quite a bit the last year of his life. It was only later I realized it was the very day same day 45 years earlier that he had gone to the river and learn to "know." Thanks Leon for letting God use your talent to speak to a little brother that also came to "know". Gods love is not easily understood by us, but ALL things work to the good of those that love him!

[Verse 1] Been travelling these wide roads For so long My heart's been far from you Ten thousand miles gone [Refrain] Oh, I wanna come near and give Every part of me But there's blood on my hands And my lips are unclean [Verse 2] In my darkness I remember Momma's words reoccur to me "Surrender to the good Lord And he'll wipe your slate clean" [Chorus] Take me to your river I wanna go Oh, go, take me to your river I wanna know [Verse 3] Dip me in your smooth water As I go in As a man with many crimes, come up for air As my sins flow down the Jordan [Refrain] Oh, I wanna come near and give you Every part of me But there's blood on my hands And my lips are unclean [Chorus] Take me to your river I wanna go Oh, go, take me to your river I wanna know [Bridge] I wanna go, wanna go, wanna go Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know I wanna know, wanna know, wanna know Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go (Hoo) Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go (Oh, yeah) Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know (Hoo) [Chorus] Hoo, oh, take me to your river I wanna go Lord, oh, please let me know Take me to your river I wanna know

Made my dad listen to this song a few years back because it really got through my soul in a way that I never thought anything ever could. My dad's music has always been important to me because it was the only bridge we really have to express our emotions, we're both introverts and talking wasn't really our thing. He would play his music to me growing up, but this was that one song, the song that I shared with him instead of him sharing his stuff with me. It was such a special moment. Everytime it would play in the car we would just be silent to listen to the whole thing and it felt like a telepathic connection of what we were feeling. He passed a few months ago and I still think of him as I listen to this song over and over again. I miss him dearly.

When he says "trust in the good Lord and he will wipe your slate clean. It sends chills through out my body, like the spirit is here with me. I have played this song now atleast 10 times, on repeat. And every time the verse is sung it hits me. In my core!! Since posting this comment my life has changed drastically. My future mother in law passed just before Christmas. Just months after her daughter and I lost our child to a miscarriage. Not long after that she left me. Lord, idk what your plan is for me, but I believe that it is for good. I'm trusting you to right this ship that's quickly sinking. I have but one brother left here in earth, and we rarely speak. So losing her and her mom impacted me greatly in a negative way. I'm confused, hurt, scared, and yeah I cry. I'm a man and I cry. Please help me Lord👑🙏❤️

So this song hits much different now, I sent it to my what was soon to be mother in law. She absolutely loved it!! She played it over and over like I did when I first heard it. She passed away just before Christmas, and not long after that my fiance left me, so the lil boy I played step dad to for almost 7 years and now it's all gone. Praying for God's wisdom and guidance I guess. I don't even feel like this is life, how can this be real. I was once the happiest man alive, but now find myself wishing I wasn't here anymore. I know God HAS TO HAVE A REASON FOR ALL THIS. Just not sure I'll ever get it😔

@Sailorperson listen there's something at stake here. Good artists never use cliches. These words say nothing. They are so generic that they have no meaning and that means the artist doesn't have to take responsibility. The more personal and specific you get the more responsibility you have to take. Specificity, specificity, specificity....not complexity. If you can't be specific , if you can't share the fresh images from your own life shut the fuck up so we don't have to wade through this sludge to find the good shit. Time is too short

I've been asking myself why the prophets from old religions ask for man to SURRENDER, TO REPENT.... I've had the realization that Surrendering and Repenting MUST BE AN ACT DONE BEYOND THE THINKING, LINEAR MIND. How can this be done or achieved? I'm not sure but there must be a way.

It's just a metaphor. Leon Bridges is an atheist.
@daniluchison
@daniluchison 2 жыл бұрын
@@shivtim I don't know if he is an atheist or not and whatever he choses, his choice. What I'm sure of is that it is not a metaphor. He WAS RAISED as a religious individual otherwise he wouldn't reference choirs and gospells. Again, as an adult he may choose whatever he feels but his lyrics are clearely referring to what he heard during his upbringing. Let's divert for a bit now and focus on the MESSAGE ITSELF... Why submitting to the 'good lord' is what's being pushed? We humans have TWO MINDS, one mind is an IMPOSITION. A FAKE entity that generates the EGO. The ego would never ever surrender to another ego, EVEN IF IT KNEW THE OTHER EGO WAS A BETTER CHOICE... When we go deep (in meditation or through a ceremony with a power plant such as ayahuasca or peyote or magic shrooms) we TURN OFF THE IMPOSED MIND. At that point you REALIZE that your mind, your life companion, is NOT YOU. This is not a new concept, its been written everywhere. Here is an example from a non religious reference: "Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind... Once achieved, the entity abides in its own nature..." Sutras of Patanjali 1.1-3 Even massive control systems like movies talk about but no one pays attention to it, here is another example: "Morpheus: It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. Neo: What truth? Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Into a prison that you cannot taste or see or touch. A PRISON FOR YOU MIND....” The Matrix movie. So be careful the 'lord' you choose.

I love this song more every time I hear it...and have played it daily to lift my spirits... But when I caught this version, tonight, I found myself blubbering uncontrollably, and not for happiness or loss, but just uncontrollably, in a very weird but satisfying way. The closest emotion that one could experience having a hill of pain or just frustration, and how a good god and religion would smooth it out and make it all okay. Its like the perfect gospel.

I first listened to this song in May of this year. I returned home to my family home in England. I had returned to quarantine as the entire world had gone into lockdown. In the months previous I had been travelling and attempting to figure out who I am as a person. Whilst in India I began to realise that I did not like who I had become. Due to the global pandemic my travel was cut short and I was stuck with the awful feeling that I would never be able to work on my flaws and was therefore destined to return to my old ways. One afternoon I had been arguing with my Parents and decided to take a walk. I put my earphones in and walked up to the top of a hill not too far from my house. I sat at the top and this song began to play as I watched the sun set (a cliché, I know). It was from that evening that I realised that this was to be the most important summer of my life and I am now a completely different person. I forgave myself for my past wrongdoings and worked hard to set myself on what I strongly believe is the right path. I owe a lot to this song.

This song has moved my spirit and my love of my life's spirit. Immediately heard this song and we both looked at each other and said this is our wedding song. So Moved we decided since the first place we went to on a whim was the river at sunset to skip rocks from a piece of land that goes out into he center. We knew then we were soulmates and the heart knows when the search is over. So we are planning our intimate wedding at sunset on that very same spot next to a tree we call the lovers tree that has initials of lovers over time. Ours are now engraved there as well. Some would think this isn't a wedding song but...to us it's everything. Simple how the souls connect with what god has created all around us. The sky a canvas like God painted it just for us to marvel at. The theme a Hawaiian/Hippie one with lanterns in the lovers tree and tiki torches along the isle's path. To complete the ceremony us getting baptized in the very same water. The lyrics hit home loosing our way through this thing called life yearning to be free. Alot of time we spent apart felt like 10,000 miles gone. We aren't perfect we've risen from the ashes of our past. And if it never comes to pass I will never forget that beautiful river that woke up our souls.
