They released this same stuff 20+ years ago. I remember because my babysitter and older brother bought it for me and I learned how to play the TGC as my introduction to pokemon on my 4th birthday. It is so freaking cool that they repackaged a starter kit again. I think I'm gonna pick this up for my kiddos.

I think this is the best starter product they ever released. The fact that they have two "beginner" decks, and then an "advanced" deck for a player to move up to once they get the basics, PLUS that amazing board, makes it a great buy IMHO. I run a hobby shop, and TPCi have really stepped up their game with the beginner products in the past two years or so. This is a product we keep in stock perpetually, and it's great for cracking for singles for our purposes as well, given that it includes a Charizard, Mewtwo, and Raichu Ultra Rare. They are also stamped promos, which makes them great for new collectors wanting to go past the standard expansions!

The fire and electric decks have numbers on all the cards, but the psychic deck doesn't have numbers on them. Interesting. I do like how they have the little thing on them to show they're from this set. Kinda makes the cards slightly unique.

It's for the "guided game". you keep the cards in deck order for the first playthrough and the instructions walk you and the player 2 through the first battles.

In my opinion the battle academy box takes up space for what could be used to store more items on the shelf. Theme decks are already an easy way to learn how to play and the effort used to make this could be used to make something else far better. I understand that they are trying to get people to play, but I just see battle academy all over the card section wasting shelf space.
