Well I don't actually watch the videos, I basically just play them and do something else while listening to them, I know that's probably the purpose of the podcast but I think youtube is a bit more accessible. I used to listen to the podcast a few years ago and for some reason I just stopped listening to it but as I still follow the channel on youtube I've been listening to the videos sometimes while working. They're really good, it helps to encrease the vocabulary and keep english fresh since I don't have the opportunity to use it very often so thank you.

Luke, just see a proportion of likes and dislikes, people absolutely love this. In terms of numbers it's a matter of time, publicity and perseverance, I guess. Oh, and probably you can persuade Paul's producers to include an ad of your podcasts and KZbin channel into his show for free. It makes a perfect sense to me. Something like a 5 seconds chunk saying "Struggle with English? Check out Luke's English Podcast and KZbin Channel." About what you've said on sound+video, try to be as logical as you always are here - what you are trying to do is imitate a real English conversation, a natural speech as it is happening in real life. Video adds value to that goal, because it is more realistic, it really is, with all your lively facial expressions, humorous looks, and all of that stuff. It's a more interactive, intimate and realistic experience. That's why I'm afraid can't agree that audio only is better in terms of English acquisition. With all the respect to blind people, you're not making this only for them, right. And you don't want people to close their eyes as soon as they are involved in an English conversation, do you? That bit about "distraction" from the audio content is arguable, I think it fulfills the experience, not ruins it. And now on my personal emotions, if anyone is interested. Thanks to the video, this episode was the first one ever, where I actually kept smiling and laughing, I mean, literally. Because when humor is delivered with a video, it's a more soul-to-soul kind of stuff if you will. Apologies for such a long comment. I just fell like I owe you an explanation of the whole "videos" idea. And of course, one more time, thank you for doing all of this, m8, it really is a significant part of my life and other people's too.

I normally listen to your podcast at 1,5 speed, since you speak very clearly I can follow it easily. Regarding making videos o not, I like listen to the podcast more than watching videos because I can do other things meanwhile I listen to it. Since I'm a fan of 70-80's English humour, I would like to propose one subject for one of your future podcast: "70-80's english humour shows", such as: ¨Only fool and horses¨, ¨Rising dump¨, ¨Man about the house¨,...etc. Thank you very much for your time. ;-))

The experience has been very helpful, Luke. Watching you speak makes it feel more like a chatting situation. Sometimes I do not understand what you say at first, but then I see you speaking and it gives me some more information about the word / bit of vocabulary. The fact that the videos are quite too long does not mean they cannot be seen completely. The listeners / viewers can stop the video when they cannot watch it anymore for whatever reason it may be and resume it whenever it's appropriate again. KZbin has now this feature that shows a red bar on the bottom of the miniature of the video for the "viewing progress" (?) of each viewer and stops and summarizes the videos from the last part each one has watched. So, it's no problem at all. Thanks, and keep on broadcasting. By the way, you look good with the beard, or not shaving as you said.

Oh, and by the way again, I believe that if you decide to separate things and produce different contents for youtube and the podcast, you are never ever going to post new videos. Because we all know you don't feel so familiar with the camera yet. But believe yourself! You can do it! We are all rooting for you and this magical gadget of the modernity.

Great job, Luke. This new format will find much more users. KZbin is a right place! Your computer can be slow at video rendering, since it's probably doesn't fit rendering software requirements (video rendering require a strong PC). Please continue creating KZbin episodes - may this motivate you - good KZbinrs don't need to have a job :)

Hi Luke! Regarding your doubt between audio (podcasts) versus video (youtube). In my opinion, your form of content as it is right now is perfect for a podcast. I mean, you already mastered and know perfectly well how to take advantage of all the radio-like possibilities and you are very creative with the use of voice and audio resources. In conclusion, is a great podcast! On the other hand, to be videos, I think you are not taking advantage of any of the visual possibilities that images have. So I agree that maybe it is not worth making a video if you are not using the visual advantages it would make a great video. I mean, it's wonderful to see the real thing of you talking but that magic it's revealed in just one time of watching you, you don't need to do every episode a video. What I would suggest is that you keep with the podcast as it is, which is an already known success. And would use video to make shorter clips and experiment with the possibilities that that platform offer to better teach English (as being able to write the words on the screen, have a blackboard to explain with mindmaps and graphics, show example images, etc). Also, I would make videos much shorter as they require full attention from your audience, whilst the podcasts it's ok to belong as they run on the background while doing other activities. Having said all that, then you have the Joe Rogan Experience which is a success even though is nothing more than a few cameras recording the visual element of what could be just the perfect podcast format! So, in conclusion, these days you never know what is the best thing to do unless you try it. Also, regarding the number of views and monetization opportunities with KZbin, it's a whole other world that only you know it it's worth the investment of your time due to the extra gains you will have. Anyway, sorry for the "rambling thinking out loud way of answering", just trying to collaborate with you in making up your mind regarding if video format might be worth it and how that would be beneficial. Cheers, and thanks for the English teachings lessons!

Thank you for your thoughtful comment Max. These are basically the conclusions I've come to as well. At the moment I'm focusing mostly on making audio episodes, which I can do quite quickly and efficiently now. And I make shorter videos for my premium subscribers that focus on pronunciation. I can add text to the screen, show features of speech and so on. The shorter videos are easier to manage. Sometimes I might video myself recording a podcast episode and publish it on KZbin if I have the right location for it. Also, I have been slowly collecting audio clips from my archive and I would like to make them into KZbin videos if possible, maybe with transcripts on the screen or even some animation or something. But that would take a ton of work and I'm not sure it's worth it! Another downside to making videos (in my experience) is that they take absolutely ages to edit, process, upload and that kind of thing. The file sizes are often so large (even with relatively short videos) and require so much of my computer's RAM that it becomes very time consuming and difficult. Also, I find it frustrating to deal with things like lighting, making the background look presentable, making sure I look (reasonably) presentable, etc. I'd love to be able to do what Joe Rogan does (or Mark Kermode & Simon Mayo's Film Reviews), but I don't have the resources unfortunately. Anyway, I love making audio episodes and I think it'll the thing I continue to do most. Thanks again for the comment. It helped me to clarify things. 👍

@@LukesEnglishPodcast Happy to help you and contribute in whatever I can :) If you decide not to shot all of your episodes in video (for all the reasons you mentioned), uploading the podcast to KZbin with just an image will still be worthy, as many people use KZbin as a music player. Sometimes when working on the computer I have an open tab with KZbin running just like the radio. So of course, not making videos doesn’t mean not uploading the audio to KZbin, as that would restrict your reproductions (I know you surely know this but just to left it clear!). Regarding the cost of videoing, I recently heard Naval Ravikant giving similar reasons when asked why his KZbin uploads were just his voice talking (only the podcast audio!) with a static picture instead of video. He said something like the required effort to make a good quality video, in his personal situation was not worth the return of investment. So it might all depend on that. Popular KZbinrs that earn lots of money in the platform would argue you that making a proper video and taking advantage of the visual and editing possibilities it's absolutely worth the effort ;) Thanks for answering and considering your audience's opinion :) Cheers

Hi, Luke! I quite like this format and find it enjoyable. However, this would be more interesting if you looked in the camera more. I found the bit when you was fooling around during the Skype conversation pretty funny :) and I think doing shorter videos for YT is a brilliant idea, you will attract more people then! By the way, the song is so cool and your guitar skills are better than you said they were. Certainly better than mine lol
