Thank you for a great video, Elise! Many, MANY YEARS ago, my mother lamented each Christmas, “My 2 big girls, and where can I shop? Toys r Us!” - because my sister and I (in our 20s and 30s) always loved the toys she put in our stocking! My mom and sister are gone now, but thanks to you I can still enjoy toys without the embarrassment of shopping for them at almost 70 years of age! Love it! 😻☺️

This is literally THE BEST video out there when it comes to amigurumi. I’ve just restarted crocheting after a 2 year break. another tip for eyes, which might not be as beginner friendly, but it's really good for people that enjoy diverse crafting is that a lot of people in the Ball Jointed Doll community makes their own eyes and they have a whole variety of styles and colors. and sometimes you can find kits and molds to make them. If you get some eye shape you like you can easily make a mold and then make more with clay or resin, paint and even nail acrylic or gel polish works wonders. I also use nail gel to make small accessories like swords, glasses, horns, noses, etc. It works wonders!

Thank you Elise, I dont know why but your amigurumis tips seems so differents that most of others youtubers who are teaching. Yours tips are concrete, and are about problems that a lots of people who are making amigurumis are facing! Lets say for embroiying the face: we receive a lot of the tips like: "Pratice!" Yes I agree, but there is more then that! The 3 things that did changed my game we're: I use embroidery floss for doing the facial features. 2. For so many years I just believed that if you dont get it right the first time, thats it, you're done, there is nothing else you can do!!!! ....But YOU CAN FROG your face features and re-do it until you are happy! Its simple isnt? But WHAT a REVELATION to me!!!😂 Its also because not to many people do it or mention it! So thank you for all your videos about tips and tricks on amigurunis.... I love to do knitted and crochet amigurumi. I use a lot of #2 sport weight yarn. I love KnitPicks Shine Sport. This past week I was at Hobby Lobby and my husband was helping me look for sport weight yarn and he found me YarnBee Yarntopia. It is 100% acrylic and is a sport weight yarn. It is so soft. It feels very much like Shine Soort. I am using the ivory color as the flesh part of a new doll I am making. I love it. And I got it on a 30% off week (normally $4.99 for 40z, 113g, 312 yds, 285 meters.)The only down side is it can be splitty. But I don’t mind that. I just love touching this yarn and it is crocheting up beautifully in my doll

Thank you so much for answering my question, without asking, about cotton yarn. I bought a ton of cotton yarn about a year ago to make a blanket and it wasn't the right weight of yarn. So it's has just been sitting there. I have been using this yarn now, for the amigurumi pieces. My wrists are killing me. Understand I crochet every single day, every chance I get, and the longer that the two years have gone on that I've been crocheting the more my wrists are starting to hurt.😳 Thank you for your information about the cotton yarn.💗💗💗

Genuinely the first tips video I've ever clicked on that had answers to problems I have! Thank you! I love crochet but tbh I usually stick to blankets/shawls etc because I enjoy the way I don't have to concentrate and can just relax but I have enjoyed making toys etc and have even made some up as I went along, but I'm usually put off because the tighter stitches hurt my hands- thank you for letting me know to avoid cotton! I had no idea that could help me! Also, I don't know if this might help beginners but when I first started I would play around making mini 'aliens'. I'd use left over yarns and make unusual shapes and experiment and get used to how increasing/decreasing worked. I would stuff them and attach googly eyes and because they were small and I wasn't following a specific pattern there was never any pressure to 'get it right'. Thanks again for your tips!

I live in Georgia, and I use cotton for darn near everything! Other yarns are way too warm for wearables and blankets most of the year. Definitely experiment with cotton and cotton blends. I love it for amigirumi. And don't discount holding that yarn double! It helps bulk up the cotton a lot.

I have only done a couple of amigurumi (a snowman and now I'm working on an octopus) and I've used fabric scraps for the stuffing. In particular (clean) single or holey socks cut into pieces. I purchased a set of crochet hooks from Walmart a year ago by Pioneer Woman. Very inexpensive. I have not used any other. The hook is a smooth metal with an ergonomic handle. Love love. The one con is you cannot read the hook size. Rub a pencil lead over the end of the handle. Or better yet don’t take them completely out till you write down the hook size in back of the hook handle paper (if the makes sense).

This is a wonderful video (as are all the ones I've seen of yours)! I listened as i was struggling with a worsted weight and a 2.5mm hook (my poor thumbs!). Thank you so much for what you share with all of us!

Question: How do you attach the felt behind the eyes on your surprised kitty? 🤔 Did you sew them on? Glue them? Are they only held on by the eyes? Other? ❤️
@EliseRoseCrochet Жыл бұрын
I use a little fabric glue behind the felt and then the eyes are secondary way for them to be secured! 🧶🧶🧶

Thanks for the tips. Because of your video I found it would be much easier to use blanket yarn.😊 I’m make a doll right now with fingering yarn and a 2mm crochet hook. It’s a struggle. I’m going to get through it but I look forward to making animals from blanket yarn instead.

Sorry for the multitude of comments, but wondering if you’d be willing to answer a question for me. I am currently making a bunny from the book Crochet Cute Critters by Sarah Zimmerman (she is RepeatCrafterMe on YT). She says during the whole intro part at the beginning that she uses worsted weight yarn with a 5mm hook. So I went and got a 5mm and the same yarn she used (Bernat Super Value). I did an entire body and half a head but was very unhappy with it. I have pretty tight tension but I could still see a lot of holes. So I went down to a 4.5mm, I did do a small swatch of 4mm but it seemed like it would make the finished animal a lot smaller? How do you know how to balance what hook size to use with how big the finished project is “supposed to” be? Thanks Elise and anyone else who sees this and may be able to help! ❤
@EliseRoseCrochet7 ай бұрын
I use the yarn and hook size that works best for me, not what's recommended. I don't mind the toys being smaller than what the designer made. I don't love being able to see the stuffing, sometimes there's no way around it, but I do my best to eliminate it! 🧶🧶🧶

Ahh that makes sense! Thank you so so much for your reply, I know how many comments you get and I really appreciate it!! 🙏🏻❤🧶

Great tips! The problem I usually run into is for example, stitching a nose… the line coming down is never balanced or straight. I don’t know if it’s because my stitches are crooked? Either the line looks crooked or it’s slightly too much on the left or right of the nose. Lol I feel like it’s my stitches because when I use a yarn stitch marker it starts to slant. I was told when using yarn as a stitch marker it should be straight like a spine. So I don’t know what I’m doing wrong🤷🏻♀️
@EliseRoseCrochet2 жыл бұрын
You're not doing anything wrong! Crochet stitches do slant! The way I handle making straight lines for embroidery is 1. I use a sharp embroidery needle, not a yarn needle. 2. I follow a straight line for my embroidery and the needle doesn't have to go in between two stitches. To make a straight line I split stitches for embroidery. I hope that makes sense! 💞

On tip #1: I use YarnArt Dolce yarn which is size 6 and I tried using a size 4 hook and it just didn't work :') I couldn't even push it through the loops, however I switched to a size 6, and there are still little to no holes. So is there a difference between yarn types? This type of yarn I use is kinda fluffy and breaks quite easily.

Thanks for the video. I am still working on the dolls from the Famous Women book. I just finished Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Fun, fun, fun. I am starting a nativity set. I downloaded a pattern set, but am changing it up to suit myself. I enjoy trying different yarns. My biggest stumbling block to amigurumi is having the right work light. I'm still searching for just the right one so these old eyes can see what I'm doing. I wish Ott lights weren't so spendy. What do you use?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm sure I'm not the only one looking for the best light.

What fun projects you're working on! This is the neck light that I really like. I'm able to move the lights to exactly where I want them to point. Plus it's rechargeable so I don't have to use batteries! amzn.to/3OLPN6E Hope that helps! 🧶🧶🧶
