Wow this is a really cool tutorial of one of my favorite Croce songs of my youth. The only problem for me is, I have only been playing the guitar for a few months and with my short fat fingers, my pinky doesn't even come close to reaching the 7th fret. The best I can do is clumsily reach the 6th fret.

Thank you! Yes, I think that’s the most difficult part of playing it:) it helped me a lot to consistently stretch the fingers apart. Just placing the fingers of one hand between the fingers of the other and holding them apart for a while.
