Just got his knife today. Damn serrations and crap whistle are my only real issues with it. That and having to file the anodized area off of the indentation in order to be able to use it as designed on the fire steel. Overall love the knife though Awesome that you got to meet him! Has always seemed like such a cool guy and incredibly knowledgable and authentic.

I was really not impressed with his knife. The whistle and light did not work, the mirror couldn't signal more than a dozen feet, the fire rod feels like its going to break off on the rounded back of the knife before I will ever get a spark from it, and the paracord is so far from 550 paracord it's not even funny (thinner diameter and no individual inner strands). The knife is unfortunately extremely gimmicky. As much as I don't like Bear, his knives are better. Not great, but better.
@guggiuggi368711 жыл бұрын
EatMy MuddyShorts Kudos for being realistic about it. Hope you didn't waste your own income on it! lol I have to wonder what Les thinks about feedback like yours. My take is that the man doesn't care one bit about the integrity of his name as long as the paycheck keeps coming, but I could be wrong. Maybe he just desperately needs the dough? Not that that would justify this horrid piece of crap he sells. And, going by your account, Camillus actually managed to top out Gerber on the crap-o-meter - which, safe to say, is the only really impressive feat they managed with this Les Stroud collaboration. The Bear Grylls and Les Stroud "knives" embodies everything I hate about cheesy, gimmicky good-for-nothing "concept knives". To be honest, you should probably feel kinda dirty and stupid for ever even handling either of them. No offence... :)
@TheGrizzlyHillbilly11 жыл бұрын
Yeah I prefer Les Stroud over anything Bear Grylls. I own two of the GBG line and both i traded for. I use the barter system for pretty much anything I need. there's no point int spending a bunch of money on a good knife. my current "EDC" is a Village Blacksmith 9in Butcher's Knife that i got from an auction for $1.

The show is for les stroud to show the viewers who are watching the program, how to survive if you or anybody else is ever put in a survival situation like the scenarios he puts himself in. The show is not about him being crazy and all about money and never having a back up plan.

I like watching les stroud's shows but i do think its funny he's regarded as the 'original' survivor show, here in Australia we have had a string of similar shows like Malcolm Douglas, Bush Tucker man, Leyland Brothers, Harry Butler etc etc all from the 60's and 70's.....the skills you all go to 'survival school' for ,we are taught as children.What you all call survival, in Australia we call camping
@Joerodgerss10 жыл бұрын
Australia doesn't have -40 weather where survival is actually a constant thought around the 24:00 clock, I always see bigot Australians who are acting like your the ultimate bushmen or something.
@brutalbrital10 жыл бұрын
John Silverton Your right we dont have 40 below but we do have 50+C and no water for hundreds of miles everything that creeps and crawls will kill you etc etc, It is a bit harsh to suggest we are bigots, we as a people have endured like no other on earth in an environment that is barren and isolated.Not the ultimate bushmen but we are well versed from childhood....thats why we say, 'what you call survival, we call camping.
@Joerodgerss10 жыл бұрын
brutalbrital Well for me it is camping as well, and same with alot of my fellow bushmen. Australia is a crazy landscape i will admit, also it gets 40 degrees here too

Yeah that's cool he got to meet him he's just a regular guy like Dave don't know why KZbin comments are getting so excited. How do you do it dave got people calling you son of a gun lucky mother f*****.LOL I don't know why everyone compares him and Bear Grylls at the end of the day they are both survivalist and they have some input on the knives. But the knife makers know more about making the knifes then they do so you cant say Bears Grylls sucks Les Stroud they don't know how to make knives they just give your opinion and help shape it but that's it so it's not their fault they're knife fails.

These poor quality knives have damaged Les Stroud's image. His show got me into survival, but these knives are even so much worse that the BG line (that is also crap)

Survivorman; With the new shows better titled as VacationMan. You can see the young man craziness is out of Les. He has a backup plan for everything now, when before he went out and was out there on his own with no backup plan besides a crew coming to see IF they can find him after the last day IF Les could not find his way out on his own. VIEWER BEWARE; Les has decided to make money, not survivor shows. Kudos to you Les. It's not like you have not earned it. But the new shows are a real disappointment to anyone who watched the old ones expecting to see more like they were.
@guggiuggi368711 жыл бұрын
This comment failed to muster up anything close to surprise or disappointment in me. The whole concept was always kinda cheesy to me. I watched it for the same reason I watched "The Crocodile Hunter": It's the "wtf-is-this-guy-doing?"-effect, lol. "Why? _Why_ would he do that?" and "This doesn't make any sense, _at all!_". You know, that type of thing. :P
@WIllyGilly32111 жыл бұрын
guggi uggi "The whole concept was always kinda cheesy to me." That makes me wonder if you ever do\did much outdoors, like camping in a tent. It appears you can't appreciate the difficulty of what Les has done over the years if you think it was "cheesy". He did a lot of daring things and created a new category of teaching- entertainment TV. Peace
