This is what got me obsessed with Bush craft and survival. I was 13 years old in a small town in Missouri and I went to my local library (which was also where everyone rented movies) where I found two seasons of survivorman on dvd and asked how much it was. The librarian said I could check it out for free with my library card. So I watched every episode then hit the woods and I’ve been passionate about the outdoors ever since. Thank you Les. You’ve been my hero for a long time my man! 🤘

I have been watching these with my kids. I went out for a hike with them and we passed a tree on the trail that was only marked on one side. The seven year old said "That is not very smart. Survivorman said you are supposed to mark both sides of the tree." Your efforts to educate are reaching people. Thank you!

Can't say how much I'm loving this inside scoop. It made me realize how formative watching these episodes was for me as a young man. So many years later, I'm still remembering lessons like when you think you have enough firewood, get 5x more... Pissing on trees to mark your territory (however debatable that may be, I do it). You were a pioneer. Now I make backcountry videos with the GoPros and all the modern gear that makes this all too easy, resulting in all too many camping KZbinrs. But doing this a joy for me and I wonder where I, and this genre, would've been without this inspiration. P.S. When my Dad, Lloyd Kelly, was working with you at Harper Collins, it made both of you even more so my heroes for you to come together for a brief time. Cheers Les!!

I'm disabled. So no canoes. But I have been cold and wet near hypothermic outdoors. Can't do fire bow...balance and coordination. Didn't even know big ferro rods existed at the time. So later...fire piston got added after I saw you do it. Didn't know about flint and steel or char cloth.. .Wouldn't have known the first signs of dehydration from donuts. No Scouts training. No three month indoors for a pandemic preps. You standing there on that rock...soaking wet to the bone...completely alone hit me like a brick in the head. Now thanks to you starting me on my journey I was able to teach a 16 year old how to make his first fire with no lighter or matches...wet tinder...on purpose. He was blowing in the base of that fire and when it took off..and he got the fuel wood on he was literally jumping up and down...saying "I did Survivorman stuff!"....all started way back there....

I love how he ALWAYS mentions Jeremiah Johnson in his commentaries. 20 plus years ago i would try to get friends to watch this film and couldnt ever get many to sit and watch it. They just Dont kNow what theyre missing. Top 3 best films of ALL TIME IMO

As a Producer and Hollywood ex-pat of 16 years it’s fun to hear Les comment on the evolution of the production of Survivorman. Two great examples of this are absolutely the green screen narrative inserts and the 2x speed tree peeing gag. The latter is particularly painful but if this episode was a mustard seed we are now eyeballs deep in Gray Poupon 😉

Because of you Les, and the Survivorman show, I learned so much to add to my knowledge of the outdoors and everything from making hard critical decisions, assessing the situation, and if you sweat; you DIE!!! you inspired me to do 3 and 4 day backpacking trips ALONE, years ago. Id get dropped off, and a prearranged pick plan would get me back to Pittsburgh. Where I spent my 20s.. I would usally go to Raccoon Creek St Park.. It always was successful, and I was able to become familiar with most the park.. I just kinda pretended I was you, and make decisions like you might, in the outdoors... Thanks for the commentary!! We want more!!!

This show changed my life and got me into the outdoors, adventure, and learning to adapt out of my comfort zone. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate these videos. I go out hiking alone in Utah all of the time and create videos. Everytime, I'm always thinking about you being out alone filming yourself. The best thing to come out of this Corona crap is this series. Huge Survivorman fan, and survivor type shows in general. Yours are the most authentic of all of them. I have seen them so many times that I periodically use them for background noise when doing other things because I can see the episode without having to even look at the TV, but I like to re-enforce the lessons in case I ever need them.. And, well they are bloody good fun! Thanks for the gift, Les!

Your stuff is one of the few things that I can rerun all the time. As you describe your interactions with your editor, and what you learned through working with them, helps explain why I don't get tired of it. Watching you pause the video to recount stories, opine, explain, fill in advice, and add your wit makes it even better, thank you... The conflict over sticking to your values yet compromising in order successfully produce the show is extremely interesting. I've always wondered about something. In other episodes, when you talked about your producers, it occasionally seemed like they tried to inadvertently kill you,... if you do more of these, I'd love to hear more of what you learned working with your production team to balance the content you wanted Vs the content they expected to need to get good ratings.

OMG, the opening of your show used to feature this little sound effect where it sounded like someone saying "Tickle, tickle, tickle"...Boy, did me and my buddies use to run w/that one. We'd be out in the wilderness or brushjumpin' quail or something and constantly chiming out with that little "Tickle, tickle tickle". It was hilarious... Les... I can't tell you thank you enough for re-igniting my love for survival skills 15 years ago. Because of that first season of survivor-man (and a few beautiful disasters in life) I started reading and practicing so many different schools of thought on survival skills ,and I've gone pretty far down that rabid hole. Music and survivor man helped my son and I through a rough family separation. So THANK YOU SIR for being the real deal from the beginning and Nuclear kick starting the survival culture we all currently enjoy and have all benefited from today . BTW.. When I was young I lived 5Km from the N Sask river on a farm we lived right were the river turns in to Tobin lake I would cross the west end of the lake to the north side and there was nothing but bush and swamp untouched by man and it was full of every kind of wild life. The Boreal forest is still one of last wild places man has not left there foot print a must see place. Thanks Les for doing this Survivormsn Boreal forest episode it reminds me of the old days.
