straight guys don't call themselves 'cis' so i dunno why thats suddenly an ok way to label other people, anways. equality! i treat everyone with equal respect which involves not labelling anyone, let people tell you who they are and what they want to be called.
@turkeypedal Жыл бұрын
Huh? Of course we do. There literally isn't another term for the concept. It comes from the Latin _cis_ meaning "on the same side," as opposed to the Latin _trans_ which means "on the opposite side." The main use of "cis" in English is in chemistry, where you have trans molecules and cis molecules. It's a scientific word. I've run into those rare people who seem offended by the term, but no one can ever tell me why. It's not a term of oppression. It's not a term that even existed before trans people started coming out. And I always tell them "well, if you don't like the term, try to come up with a new one and try to popularize it. But, until you do, people are going to use the only term that exists." Regardless, the idea that straight men don't use that term is silly. Most of us don't even get why someone would be offended by it.
@ride1123 Жыл бұрын
@@turkeypedal how about just call me a person and lets leave gender out of it all together, thanks. i hate dwelling on these things that humans use to feel different from each other, when at the core we are all more similar than different, we're just humans.
@pacojuggles Жыл бұрын
@@ride1123 Sure, we're all people. But notice how you used the terms "straight" and "guys." So from the very beginning, you were identifying a specific gender and sexuality. We use terms to help us understand our unique experiences of the world. I have a lot of trans and nonbinary friends, and I call myself cis all the time to explore how my experience is different from theirs. No biggie. It's just a descriptor.
@ride1123 Жыл бұрын
@@pacojuggles yes, and if i don't like being called cis because its a gross sounding word, or any other reason, that should be the end of that. just saying. honestly most people have been more concerned with my gender and sexuality than i have, since i was about 11. its stood out to me my whole life, i've never felt SUPER male or anything, to the point that i'm offended by a lot of masculine stereotypes because they're the opposite of who i am. honestly i don't care what gender someone is or how they identify, why would i. very few people are seen for who they are inside, thats a very human issue for everybody, i believe.
@pacojuggles Жыл бұрын
@@ride1123 Sure, if you don't like being called cis, I can respect that. I don't really feel like I fit into masculine norms either. Probably why most of my friends are queer. But there's a difference between saying "straight guys don't like being called cis," and "I don't like being called cis." You're welcome to express your own identity, but your experience is different than others.
