That's some good analysis, considering how few information about side characters' relationships we have. Great video. I am pretty sure Peppermint and Korsica love each other is canon, because anime (Hi-Fi Rush is half anime but still) tends to have often non heterosexual couples or queer characters which are not forced and feels genuine. And I do not really see Chai in any romantic relationships, he just wants to play a guitar... or smash things with a guitar... or whatever he is doing, he hasn't changed in the end of journey (this is not a bad thing by any means), only got a new friends and new goals. Plus there is romantic line between Carr-11e amd OL-404 (Receptionist woman), and Carr-11e's are girls too (they are referred by female word forms in Russian and voiced by female VA in Japanese from what I've noticed), and these 2 scenes are really on the side of main events. Of course I has come to yuri video, no matter the popularity, I always will come, always.

Anime tends to have nonheterosecual couples?! Wrf? What are you smoking? Maybe in the recent new anime that came out, but through out anime entirely? No, don't spread BS opinions. What you said isn't fact. Clearly you have seen Ranma 1/2 Oh My Goddess, or other good Anime. Such misinfornation. But again, just believe what you want with your bias. Personally I think it's just 1 sided. Kors, winking can mean a lot of stuff, like" hey," or "got here on time,". given she didn't bother to follow up on that later, and just stand there not getting closer to pep on her own I think is a clear sign she just sees pep ad a good friend, nothing more.

@@Alkaizer87 Please pay closer attention to the words, both yours and mine. Reading your text is a linguistic pain for me. I said that the anime industry tends to have *non-forced lesbian couples*, i.e. yuri, unlike the western media, where a lot of queer relationships are made for a progressive checkmark. It is really hard to argue about whether Korsica and Peppermint’s relationship is one-sided, because there is too little information given about the secondary characters. I just wrote my opinion on this matter, because I would enjoy seeing these girls together as a couple. PS: Sadly, I hasn't seen Ranma 1/2 yet, but even today there is a selection of anime with yuri elements which are more than just a subtext.

In my opinion, I am not a fan of any ships. I want this to be a tight nit family of people. No group romance, just a family of friends. I prefer all round completely platonic relationships. I know this probably isn't going to happen, I think it would be a nice change of pace, also, leaving room for different stories to be told.

something people don't really take into acount is that chai never expresed interest in neither both of them nor any other person, we asume that he is interested in women but trough the game he never makes any moves or flirth with any of the women or men in the game, you would think that with how much he mantions his desire to be a "rockstar" he would want to have people falling in love with him, but no, he never shows attraction to any gender, because if he did, it would be very clear and in your face since chai doesn't really know how to be subtle about anything
@garfieldkermit Жыл бұрын
Exactly, it's hard to describe Chai as subtle in any sense so if he has a thing for either of them I feel like we would definitely know

"its impossible for them to be gay since japan is not really progressive" My brother in Christ, have you seen how many queercoding exist in anime and manga alone? How popular genres like Bl and GL are? the fact that there are a great deal of queer representation in japanese videogames? even in freaking nintendo?
@garfieldkermit Жыл бұрын
Exactly! It literally drives me mad whenever people suggest that queer coding is only for certain cultures, like just because the content is produced in a certain country, doesn't mean they can't represent through subtext!

Ehhh, while true most same sex relationship in manga and anime are fetish fuel , most BL is written by girls who write it because it's hot. Another example of how while it's representation it's not good representation. A lot of early Yuri had tragic endings , either one partner would die or it was just a phase and they end up with a guy. It's like same sex relationships are not treated seriously , or not romantic only sexual.

Peppermint is definitely into Korsica with that ending credit scene moment alone. There's no way that was unintentionally added. Also irl it is almost a given for a lesbian to have some sort of short hair style, its sort of became a thing in modern youth. I hope we get a sequel, this game slaps hard

Great analysis! Im personally on team "chai korisca and pepeprmint all being a poly couple" + I see KorsiMint as a onesided relationship, but I can totally see KorsiMint becoming canon if there were a sequel... Oh, wait.☹️

Very concise and well made video. Glad this popped up on my feed! Edit: Also yeah, I agree with the point about people being quick to second guess themselves when reading into queer context that isn't made explicit. I fall into this trap sometimes too (mainly because I've seen so much empty queerbaiting over the years that ended up going nowhere). I'm probably just jaded, but I don't wanna get invested in the implications of a potential cannon lgbt ship, only for it to turn out being "too good to be true", ya know? :( As for the other ships, I don't mind Chai being paired with Peppermint or Korsica. I can definitely see the appeal of both, and the dynamics are there to write something interesting if they wanted to. In terms of what has more evidence in the text though, I think Peppermint x Korsica has the most going for it.
@garfieldkermit Жыл бұрын
Queerbaiting can be incredibly frustrating, but I think learning about the distinguishing between queer subtext and baiting has really made me a lot more optimistic. Like with HFR it really seems like the creators are explicitly hinting rather than stringing people along and I think that difference goes a long way!

Heyyy nice video man, and thanks for shoutout ;) I think you're SO RIGHT about the whole 'if either of the genders were switched no one would question it' thing too. It's so easy to dismiss your own reading as 'reaching' when you see queerness in media, but the backlash from homophobes is just too feirce sometimes so writers feel the need to intentionally bury the queer ships they genuinely want to include so that those that don't have an eye for it won't see it. It can lead to this constant feeling of second guessing. And I think we just need to not just learn to dismiss those feelings and start not only headcanoning stuff more often, but also just start acting as if the headcanon is true until definitvely proven otherwise. Since shat's what happens with most straight ships in media, after all. Plus that wink was defo deliberate. They knew what they were doing. I haven't even played this game, but KorsicaMint is canon and unless (or until) some dlc, sequel, or developer interview says otherwise then I'll believe it.

If they make a sequel to this, I don't want to know if they will be forced like the rest of characters like Marceline and Dulce Princessa, Catra and Adora, Korra and Asami or Lumity. Because if this goes wrong, I will take my life as happened with everything.
