JUNE 2024 update - Navigo pass is available now on iPhone and works great. A Navigo Découverte pass is 30€ for a week (Mon-Sun) of travel in zones 1-5 on metro, RER, buses, Montmartre funicular. We just came back from Paris and used it many times daily (no need to unlock your phone, just bring it close to a scanner). The trip planning was so much easier after watching your videos. THANK YOU so much! You are doing an amazing job!!! I recommend your channel to everyone going to France.

When I was there in 2022, I bought bunches of tickets and they never worked when I out them in the machine. They were always spit back at me. It was so crazy. I wound up walking everywhere! The train to Normandy was easier. Bought the tickets online and used my phone at the gates. So, thanks. i hope this will help me have a better experience. I think I’ll do Navigo this time.

one tip when topping up your navigo pass: after your credit card is processed, be sure to wait a few secs for the card to be loaded. i was being rushed last time i did this, grabbed my navigo pass off the reader before it was done loading. lost 20 euros; gained a good lesson! 🙃

If you already have a Navigo card, then you can do all of this from the comfort of your own home. My wife and I travel to Paris in about 3 weeks. We'll top up our Navigo cards a couple days before we leave in the comfort of our home.

Problem with having travel tickets on your phone, especially as a tourist, is that you’re going to be using your phone a LOT as you move around the city and you’ll be losing battery power faster than usual. It’s one less worry to know your travel ticket isn’t relying on it.

One caveat: We saw a group of young men in Gare du Nord approach people at the ticket machines and offer to “help.” I am certain they were trying to confuse and scam tourists. I'm one of those individuals who got ticketed for not having a picture... I was transiting through Paris for 5 days, and was doing heavy transport use, and well on the way back from Versailles I got checked by control, and they ticketed me for not having the picture on the back. The person even wanted to accuse me of having stolen the card despite I still having the receipt with me, and the CC used for the transaction. Moral of the story is Sign it and have your picture!

Arrived in Paris today from US and confidently went to Cadet Station near my hotel and bought Metro tickets thanks to your very helpful video. Walked right up to the machine, no line at all. The photo booth at CDG charged 8 euros per person (!). Wished we took our own pictures at Walmart before leaving and sent them to 1-hour photo (16 cents). Basically just need to size it as if a passport I think. Maybe a little smaller.

Just returned home from our trip to Paris. Thank you for your videos! They are so helpful! The best tip was to keep your train ticket! We were using our iPhones to travel within zone one the whole time, but when we went to go to the airport we got a paper ticket. Your tip to keep the ticket on you stuck with me but I didn’t remember why until we disembarked and needed it to get out of the gate at our destination. We live in rural US so the metro was a very new experience for us and made navigating Paris so much easier!

Currently in Paris on our first trip, your videos have been extremely helpful so thank you 😊 We have noticed that at the moment there is a lot of construction for the Olympics. We did have an issue where we couldn’t purchase the Easy Pass at the CDG airport, had to queue in 3 different queues for about 1 hour total until we eventually purchased at the ticket desk. Excellent. On previous trips to Paris I've just bought books of 10 t+ paper tickets. This time I'll provably buy a Navigo Easypass, thanks for the tip that not all Metro stations may take paper tickets. One thing that's slightly odd (you did mention in passing) is that the t+ tickets only apply within Zone 1 on the RER, but are valid for all Metro *even where the Metro extends beyond Zone 1*. So a t+ will take you to La Defense on Metro Ligne 1 but NOT on RER A (example from RATP's website)

Convenient when traveling in Japan where they have various IC prepaid cards. Compare to Oyster. Just tap in and tap out the gates given you have a valid balance. No need to buy single tickets and know the correct fare and dealing with transferring to another rail operator on the same tracks. Suburban and metro rail have integrated through service. You can also use on buses, vending machines, and stores. Alternatively, you can use an iPhone. Must buy tickets separately for Shinkansen or reserved express trains.

I found out the hard way…don’t put your ticket inside your RFID wallet or credit card holder. Mine erased my ticket. I went to the ticket desk and they reinstated the ticket and said avoid placing it in or near RFID.

We just got back from Paris and we had an absolutely wonderful time! Your videos really helped out and my wife even used a couple of your suggestions for street food and pan chocolates. My little boy Zeppelin watched several of your videos and kept us safe from pickpockets and taxi scammers. My wife and I have been in Paris a couple other times, but it was Zeppelin's first visit. Consequently, we geared the trip a little for what a seven year old would remember. The Eiffel tower, yes. Maybe Norte Dame and the Arc de Triomphe. For my wife and I, it was all about the food! So, we spent all of our time eating and when we were too full to eat anymore, we'd do something like go to the Eiffel tower until we were hungry again! Zeppelin apparently thought you were like his aunt and uncle, because he asked a couple of times when we were going to your house! Thank you for your informative and down to earth useful videos. They made our visit so much better!

We used the Navigo Decouverte weekly pass and it worked out great. We were able to get from the airport to the city on the Roissybus. Getting to Versailles was a breeze on the RER with the pass as well. The nice thing is that the pass is valid for 10 years so we just need to recharge it on our next visit. Plus we didn't have to worry about making sure our tickets were valid going from the Metro to the RER. We were only stopped once in the Metro to show our card with our picture and I think that was mostly because there were a group of kids jumping over the turnstiles to get into the Metro without a ticket.

@@Jungle1048 We used extra passport photos that we brought with us. There are photo booths at the airport you can use but it will save time if you bring your own. The pass has a peel off film with a sticky back that lets you stick the photo to. After getting our bags we followed the signs to RER B train which brings you down to a lobby area. There's a Billets Paris et Ile-de-France "store" where you can purchase the pass and load whatever you want.

I'd certainly say the Weekly pass is worth it for the following week. Getting to Paris on a weekend is tricky. You can always load a daily pass for Friday, Saturday and Sunday but even a 1-2 Zone pass for three days will cost almost as much as a weekly pass. Depending on how much you plan to use public transport it might make more sense to just buy tickets as you need them until your weekly pass kicks in on Monday. Our next trip we will most likely be arriving on a Saturday so the plan is to load a 1-2 zone daily pass for Saturday and Sunday and then the weekly pass starting on Monday. We will take a taxi from the airport to our hotel.

Leaving Paris today…so appreciate your wonderfully informative videos…they were spot on …. transportation from CGD, purchasing and using the metro navigo easy passes, purchasing a two day pass for the batobus for viewing the Eiffel Tower and experiencing d’Orsay museum and many other sites, CROISSANTS, ordering and dining comfortably at many wonderful bistros, cafes and markets (we booked a tour to the Paris flea markets) and just wondering leisurely through the streets and gardens of different Paris arrondissements. People were helpful and most spoke English. Curtesy is a must…and Parisians prefer privacy in public areas. Thank you again!

UPDATE! Metro Line M14 now takes you directly from Orly Airport (ORY) to Paris Center directly! Ticket price around $15.00 but what a convenience! Within 40 minutes train/subway ride you’re in the heart of Paris!

You re so right to be disgusted. Us, Parisians, are so ashamed of the gestion of these Olympics. There will be a special pass which will cost 16€/day with illimited trips in all over Ile-de-France. Honestly it is a tourist trap. Most of the olympic sites are in the first fourth zones and a classic navigo one day card with illimited trips for four zones cost 14,35€ actually. A two zones cost 8,35€. Second tip : pay and order your transportation cards before Olympics. All transportation costs will be doubled, except if you have already a transportation card. It could be priceless to take a monthly or weekly transportation card before the beginning of the Olympics. And be ready for strikes : all Parisians are opposed to these Olympics.

So practical and helpful!!!!! Though not Paris, my granddaughter and her friend were in Nice a few months ago and there was some transition happening regarding who paid what, when, and how on the buses. One day it was free - the next day it was not. So when the driver shooed them on when they tried to pay on day two - with cash - they thought it was another free day. Nope. When the transit authority got on to check tickets - they didn’t have one. Their passports were taken and given back only after they paid $80.00 US a piece! Rider - head’s up! Between an unfamiliar system and the language barrier - it was an unnecessarily expensive misunderstanding. No leeway for the foreigners.

We're going to be in Paris from Sept 10th to the 18th, and this info, the video on taking the RER down from CDG airport to Saint Michel (thanks for the heads up on pick pockets, but our hotel is a 4min walk from that RER station), as well as many of your other videos are SO HELPFUL and reassuring.... Just got back from a family trip to Paris and we knew exactly how to buy and top-up 4x Navigo Easy cards, thanks to this video. 🙌🏻 Be aware that the pink machines only seem to be available in large railway stations - We found them tricky to find. 🤷‍♀️ However, once we had the cards, the system worked brilliantly. 😄

Excellent and thorough summary with essential step by step instructions. Bravo! The only thing I would add is that for the Navigo Découverte you can use an ordinary photocopy of your passport photo that you have previously cut down to 25x30mm. Cheap and one less thing to do in the train station.

@@LesFrenchiesTravel Yes, always good to point that out. What got me worried was the lack of physical means to prevent a passenger from crossing zones with the wrong tickets. It´s good on one hand, because it flows better, but might result in "unfair" fines. Overral, my experience with public transportation in Paris was very positive. The only problem I had was being delayed for a few minutes at Cité station when my navigo easy was rejected (even though it had credits). I "teamed up" with a couple of americans (I think) who had the same problem to ask the agents for help and eventually we got through ... Some software glitch, I guess. Sorry for any mistakes in the text, English is not my native language. Thanks again, your videos helped me a lot during my week in Paris.

i missd this video and saw the last 2 you did! We ended up buying individual tickets for 4 of us EVERY TIME we used the Metro. Such a hassle. The London Underground was so much more convenient. Thanks for the video anyway! It was nice to learn that you can't buy a Navigo on the iphone - i thought I was going crazy and was super frustrated that I couldn't make it happen!

Just be aware that during the Olympics, Paris transport ticket prices will go up exponentially. You will not be able to pick your zones for a weekly pass. They are introducing a special pass called the Paris 2024 Pass. The weekly price will double in price for zones 1-5 from 35 euros to 70 euros.
