Emmy-winning actor, comedian and singer Leslie Jordan died unexpectedly on Oct. 24 at 67 years old. CBS News correspondent Anthony Mason had just visited him in Nashville two weeks prior to chat about his life, career, becoming a viral internet sensation during the pandemic, and his recent pivot to country music. They met up for what would be Jordan's final sit-down TV interview at Nashville's Sound Emporium Studios, where he recorded his debut gospel album.

I think if he was here he would tell everyone it's going to be okay. He would want everyone to laugh and remember him as a good person who cared. We need to honor him by being kind to each other. I didn't know he had died until I got home from work that day. I actually questioned if it was true. Life is not fair. But Leslie Jordan got to go out on top and that is a gift. Take care of yourself .

He knew how not to take himself too seriously and why we are here on this planet. To be of service. Yes Leslie. Thank you. You were a gift. I’m sure he’s with his dad now who’s so proud of him. Send us your light from wherever you are. We will feel it. The world needs your light. You were special. I’m so deeply affected by your passing even though I never knew you. The world needs more people like Leslie Jordan. People who loved, were genuinely kind, and just enjoyed being alive. It seems like robbery to have him taken so soon after he was starting to get the acknowledgement he deserved. He had such a good message that so many people needed to hear and be around. A good man with a sense of humor and a good heart. You cant help but love Leslie. Fortunately we all have his work on film or video to keep us laughing and in our memories. Will miss you Leslie. RIP❤🙏

My major takeaway from his life philosophy is in any situation where there's a specific need, to emulate and honor him, I can ask myself 'what would Leslie do'?
