Hi Leslie, much to my surprise, I saw this x-ray of my left wrist appear in my KZbin feed... until I realized it's not my x-ray, but yours! 2.5 weeks ago, I suffered pretty much an identical fracture on the ice skating rink (I got hit from behind). LIke for you, my radius was in pieces and I had a fractured ulna too -- and now a plate with seven screws. It's inspiring to hear how you've been coping. My surgeon gave me the OK to knit on the day of the surgery (!) - not that I could move my arm that day. So I went back to knitting (carefully and slowly, and simple garter only) right away, despite a tingling feeling in my thumb. I hope your healing is smooth and your recovery swift! I'll be following your progress. All the best, Alice

Oh dear! Alice!!!! I am so sorry for your injury! I feel your pain friend! I am so glad that you are knitting! I finally did start and my fingers have improved considerably! I had my cast/brace removed and I am slowly getting move it back in my wrist. How are you managing otherwise? I hope well! I listened to and read a book called “wintering” by Katherine May. I absolutely loved it and in some weird way it gave me more permission to just rest.
@alicevanharten96632 жыл бұрын
@@LeslieFriend So good to hear you're done with the cast / brace and knitting again, too! Don't you find that knitting now feel extra special? The surgeon yesterday told me he was impressed with my mobility and I credit that to the knitting. But it's been up and down for me: on the whole I'm positive, but sometimes the pain and discomfort wear me down. Thank you for the book recommendation - you're so right: it's easy to not rest enough! (My hand therapist told me I need to.) Also, soon after the surgery, I found this video (I also play piano) and was so encouraged by Lisa's positive attitude: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGi1g6V_fJ18o5I I even took a coaching session with her, which has helped me to focus on the positives.

Ohhhhh, nooooo! My heart goes out to you, Leslie! I KNOW the pain you are in, as I can still remember when my son broke his wrist after falling on the ice when he was six, and now he’s going on 40. You were, actually, lucky in several respects: Your superb docs, high-tech setting of the bone, the care you received, AND you didn’t hurt your back again, nor did you land on your head. OH, and you’re right-handed! Your knitting notebook is SO YOU! Love it! Keep your positive outlook, smiling, and before you know it, you’ll be good as new and back to your beloved knitting. Prayers for fast healing!

Leslie I am so sorry to hear of your wrist fracture. Not surprised to see you “lifting your needles” to lift you in terms of other knit to-dos. The booklet of dreams and Future Objects is such a great idea for now. I as well think wrapping up in a past knit is healing! I am from CA., and know Truckee well after many skiing issues and need for Emergency care. Glad you got yourself a good hand surgeon and now on the mend. For me in 2011 -- I had a Sternotomy for Thymus removal ( tumor scare)….. having my chest cracked put my needles aside for 2 months. Purchased my first I-pad and went looking for other “knit-spiration”…. That is when I found you. Our daughter set up a reader for me and blog life was filled with other knitters so I could dream of next things to knit. So I will be looking for your next post with lots of good wishes your way to see your needles in hand soon. For now I hope each day mends your wrist and you can get better soon. Take good care.

Hi Leslie, I know this won’t make you feel any better about your break, but I broke both my wrists in October of 2019, so I certainly can commiserate with your travails right now. I too had a wonderful Pgh hand surgeon and am sporting the same lovely titanium hardware in my right wrist. The left, while broken, only required resetting, no surgery, until I ruptured my thumb tendon on my left hand, but that’s another story. Just know my right hand is better than it ever was. I knit for hours at a time with out any pain at all. I also garden all summer with it, it’s my dominate hand, and it is completely pain free. I’m sure you will have similar results. Good luck! And thanks for all your tips, super helpful.

Love hearing from you. Thank you for sharing your journal, a great way to put projects you want to knit to visually see and look through to plan. I will be praying for continued healing of your arm so you can continue on to more therapies to get the knitting needles back in your hands. I will look into the Purl Soho knit along.

Oh Julie! So much to say! Thank you for your kind words! And yes Elsa! I’ve re-watched some episodes just to hear her soothing voice and her amazing perception of the beauty of life! (That conversation she had with the older guy after her first love was killed… when he said that the people you love in your life who die can see life through your eyes… Oh that just killed me!) my husband and I have one last episode to watch. 🤍🙏

Yes .. painful memories of what your going through.. Your young and I know you will do great when you get that cast off.. knitting was part of my therapy and my therapist was happy I was a knitter. Love your little notebook with planned projects.. I need to do this .. I buy yarn and forget what I was going to knit.. Take care Leslie…

Oh, so sorry to hear of your fall. Yikes! Sad you cannot knit for a month. It will go fast though. Read knitting patterns so when you can knit again, you will have patterns lined up. Books are great. Audio books too. Organizing your knit account is wonderful too. Starting your spiral bound book of patterns is such a nice idea. You are really using your “no knitting” time wisely.

you are so courageous, Leslie, your very fine sense of "self humour"...sorry, not a native speaker...i send love and healing. the reorganisation of your cue is so inpiring, will do that too as for me a big part of my knitting is the dreaming and planning, you hit a sweet spot with this episode. get well soon and stay as you are

I feel your frustration. We moved to Albuquerque and decided to go to Estes Park, CO for a mini vacation. We left all the boxes and just left. While there I fell and broke my arm. Three kids 9,4, and 1yrs old, a new town and all our things in boxes. A true nightmare. But I did it!! And you will too. Be kind to yourself and do every bit of rehab. I skimped and I’m sorry I did now. This will be a funny story that happened to you sooner than you think. Hang in there!

OHHHH NOOOOO! No fun at all! Sending my encouragement to keep doing nothing with that wrist, and let it heal! You’ve still managed to get a lot accomplished getting organized and wearing your hand knits has to be comforting. 😊 I didn’t see it on IG so now I need to go look and see why it didn’t come up. I am so excited that you did another podcast. Listening to you brings me so much joy and peace. Thank you my friend. I was so excited to see a few of the projects you have selected to work on once you are back to knitting. I would love to see all of them. Did you save them on Ravelry? Or maybe next podcast you can share more. I love your sense of style. I too prefer simple and classic styles that stand the test of time. See you again soon. Sending you quick healing vibes.

So sorry about your accident, Leslie! Yes it is absolutely the worst pain when they tried to realign the fracture. I had a life-changing accident when I fractured my ankle. The doctors were awful. They didn’t explain what they were going to do. They said they were going to give me pain med, they lied. Next thing I knew, they were forcing the alignment. Yes, it was excruciating pain! I had surgery on Christmas Eve for that accident a few years ago. I had screws and rods to re-attach the fracture. Had to be bedridden for two months, followed by physical therapy. It was the worst accident ever. However, I’ve learned to live with it, get stronger, and get on with the daily grind! Wishing you speedy and complete recovery and that you will be able to knit very soon! Yes, enjoy your lovely finished projects to soothe you in the interim. 🙏🙏

Hi Leslie, I fractured my arm two years ago roller skating and was so afraid it was going to be much worse. It sounds like you are making the best of your healing time. I’m sending you good wishes and hope your arm heals quickly. I recently knit a charcoal colored Daily pullover and am knitting another in nutmeg. I want a Daily pullover in every color because I want to wear it all the time. Take care of yourself and your arm.

Love you to pieces, Leslie, but I prefer not to find you in them! I’m so glad you are on the mend. It looks like your surgeon did a stellar job installing that hardware. This summer I had surgery to remove a sarcoma from my forehead that was eating into my skull so they removed part of my skull and replaced with a titanium mesh and took muscle and skin from my left arm. When I awakened from surgery the doctor asked if I could move my thumb, I could a little and told him it tingled. He smiled and said “great then there was no damage and you should be able to use your arm but we’ll see in a few days. I was in a brace for two weeks and about went nuts not being able to knit or crochet! Anyway they took the brace off and I started knitting right away. I have never been more grateful!!! 🌸 Soooooo glad you healed well. (I’m assuming anyway)
