Less Lethal & more - on-body home defense gear!

Home defense requires a rapid response and more force than typical EDC options but on-body tools are essential. You never know what can happen and how many people can invade your property to bring harm to you and your family. In this video I talk about how I stage my tactical gear to be ready for any situation quickly. I don't just plan for the benign burglar but I do make provisions to be ready for that situation. I make it a point to cover all the bases and whenever possible to have on-body options that span the continuum of force. Never make too many assumptions about your home security. You need more than an alarm system and just waiting on a 911 call and police to arrive minutes later when seconds count.
Everybody has their own style when it comes to home defense and our homes are in different locations and have different risk profiles. Do what you need to do for your situation but make sure that you cover all the bases.

The vest is a great idea for the "safe room". A first aid kit should definitely by in the inside pocket. I like your levels of defensive escalation: VKS. Glock, 12G shotgun. Unless you owe money to the mob, home invaders will retreat, upon first sight of a VKS, or any scary looking LL, especially with a laser. Loud noise when firing is also key, more so than hitting the assailant. The real danger with home invaders caring firearms is, they are likely to fire at you (probably wildly) as they retreat, not whether they will retreat. Good stuff as always.

Always good to hear from another like-minded channel host. Yes, home invasion is a scary beast that nobody can really be prepared enough for. It's so unlikely to happen but we have to think about it.

With the VKS over top and the vest underneath that would be one intimidating look. I understand why you haven't needed it but having something like that ready for SHTF never hurts.

Intimidation addresses only part of the problem. But having the power behind the look is the most important part in case they don't run just because someone is home. You never know so I prepare for the worst.

I have both a plate carrier and a duty belt that i have rigged specifically for my rifle and my pistol setup. Its just good practice to have these things and not need it than to need it and not have it. As far as those velcro straps I'd tuck those into the pockets and it'll make your mags fit nice and snug.

Don't think people usually think about a tactical vest for home use so that's probably why you don't hear about it. I have a holster with an extra magazine holder as well as two magazine holders that attach to my belt. If four magazines aren't enough to stop an intruder, then I'm gonna be screwed anyways. Never really thought about a tactical vest for home use as it never really came up. While in the military, yeah we used them, but since I've been out I haven't really thought about needing one.

Great points. Anyone who's worn one for service probably never wants to put one on again. I get it. I've had it for as long as my TCP and originally got it thinking that it would be a great way to carry multiple extra TCP mags since they are bulky and big. Over time it evolved into what I'm using it for now. Whether I'll actually ever need it is probably unlikely...if I"m lucky.

Dam that vest makes you look like your going on maneuvers or war a little to much if you ask me I'd just go with something that would protect against bullets or a knife if I was going for something for home defense you should be able to carry the other essentials in that belt for me maybe a belt like you have a bit more trimmed down couple extra mags a pistol and a good short rifle like the M17 or if you can one one an AR I guess under extreme circumstances it would be good to have but for me I can't own a gun as you already know so something like a A4 vest a belt for extra ammo my FSC or TCP possibly both and my M17 for home defense outside a whole different story for sure

Agreed. It's overkill and that's part of the attraction. A good belt with lots of things on it is faster. I just haven't gone that direction yet. The vest is definitely nice once it's on but whether I'll ever need to wear it is very unlikely and I hope to keep it that way. Thanks for stopping by!
