At 5:55, I notice that replacing "chị ấy" with "chị" didn't involve adding the "question mark" (low rising) tone, unlike the other examples...so, if one tone is already being used with a letter (in this case the "dot" tone under the "i"), I guess you don't add a second tone, or replace the original tone with another?

What do you say for chú ấy? Also why does chị not have the dấu hỏi when written?
@LearnVietnameseWithSVFF
@LearnVietnameseWithSVFF 6 жыл бұрын
that is like one of the exceptional cases for this pronoun, you can also use Chú + Name => chú John, chú Bill etc.

I noticed that a lot of Southerner men wear the traditional "head-band, head-dress"! Do men in the north wear this or just in the South? Does it have any meaning!? Can you kindly please give me the southern name for it? Is it from Khmer or Cham's influence. Here, in Thailand, we wear similar things. I am often surprised to see Vietnamese (Sinocized) wear them! Thank you!

What i am wearing it call "Khăn rằn". In the north they don't wear that, but they wear some other head dress!

Tôi nghĩ giới trẻ bây giờ chịu ảnh hưởng của tiếng miền bắc. Cao 1 mét 7 thay vì cao 1 thước 7, đeo kính phải là đeo kiếng.

Is "tao " the colloquial term for "toi " that is commonly used by people in the South rather than in the North?
@LearnVietnameseWithSVFF
@LearnVietnameseWithSVFF 7 жыл бұрын
+Peter Gan tao means "i". "Mày" means you This is used for two close friends. The north still use "tao mày" for close friends. "Tôi" and "Tui" is used in formal situation!
