I’m glad Garmus is shedding light on the sexism of the day. It appears the Host has never discussed this with women her mother or grandmother’s age. It was even worse for black women who had to work and had even fewer opportunities and were subjected to even more discrimination.

a woman who's husband died in Nam usually got stuck living w her parents or her husband's bc a woman living alone (esp w a kid) was suspected to be an unwed mother using a convenient cover story. first of all, some man (dad or das-in-law) would have had to rent her a home & that would be nearly impossible to begin with bc what man would do that?! So she would be stuck until another hubby came along. did you know women also couldn't get a telephone installed or have their utilities in their own names? old boomers will be happy to tell you all about it. Ask me how I know all this?!☮❤🙋

I remember this era well. In our family, the patriarch, my grandfather, made the rules, indirectly, through his sons ( my dad) and basically women and children were seen but not heard. This was right before Gloria Steinem changed everything.
