I have 5 winter coats that would be better a fit for the mid-Atlantic and I live along the Gulf Coast. I am not getting rid the coats, any of them.

"This stuff" made a great point how fashion trickles down. In the book, Emily is more helpful. Andie's friends spiral in their own professions and personal lives. Wiengarten described many of the outfits Andie wore as borrowed. She also damaged many of them so a large portion of her salary went to pay for outfits and footwear she damaged such as splled coffee, cigerette ashes. Andie had a (second) chance for a dream job. I woud tell Nick, enjoy Boston. Buh-bye. (F/U).

Actually no, there wasn't a mention of her paying for the items she damaged. She only notices that she ruined x worth of product, but if she really needed to pay for that, she'd have been way more careful. Most of the stuff she wears is gifted, with only accessories and shoes being more or less regularly borrowed from the Closet.

Confidence is key! The current job I'm at now, walked in on day one, didn't falter, had absolutely no expectations, but still impressed my boss with how I seemed to get into the flow of things so quickly. Probabaly best first day on the job in my life.

I always found it weird that someone who wants to be a journalist and has been editor in chief of their college newspaper would not know who the editor of the most famous fashion magazine in the world is (Runway being the movie equivalent of real world Vogue). Even sports critics today know who Anna Wintour is. The fact that Andy was interviewing for Runway wohtout doing any research beforehand was a bit puzzling.

If the genders were reversed, Andy would probably understand her bf would only need to endure 1 year in the job and would support him, not make things more difficult for him. Andy made a mistake sleeping with that guy, but that bf was too gaslighting with all that "keeping your integrity" talk
@stefanmakara373

Actually I think Christopher would have been a better fit for her than Nate. The biggest issue Andy had with her work was the fact that her boyfriend and friends were not understanding. Christopher would get her work hours and wouldn't stifle her. Even if he dislikes Miranda, he understands working for her is a golden opportunity, and he also understands the publishing word and how much work goes into it, and how much you have to commit. He'd be happy with a relationship with Andy where they don't see each other as much (don't live together either, it's a new relationship) but the time they spend together is great. Sure, he wouldn't be her one true love, but not every boyfriend needs to be your one true love. Sometimes you just need someone you can hug every once in a while who kisses you and tells you you are doing great, and then you spend time talking about stuff you both like and understand. A chill relationship, where the guy wouldn't be prissy if you missed his birthday party for work because he knows you can meet the following day for a private celebration between the two of you.

It always bothered me how they had no communication. I think that was the main thing that ruined her personal life. They never talked. Her friends and bf had no idea what was going on at her work, all the crap Miranda was giving her and the struggles she faced and managed to overcome. I feel that if there was better communication going on, her bf and friends would be more understanding. But then there wouldn't be enough drama to make the movie interesting.

Unpopular opinion here. Disclaimer: I am not a huge fan of Nate. However I think the Internet is really hating on him when in reality Andy did make certain mistakes that warranted specific reactions. 1. She did sleep with Christian (after her and Nate broke-up) but prior to that, Andy & Christian were obviously very flirtatious e.g. Andy's friend's art gallery 2. Yes she had long working hours and Nate should've been more respectful of that. BUT she did miss Nate's birthday and I think if the genders were reversed and a man missed his gf's bday, a big field day would ensue. 3. Andy also contributed to the mockery and hatred of Runway Magazine to which Nate mirrored her sentiments & actions. 4. He was right to be pissed when he found out Andy was going to Paris without telling him. Although perhaps not to that extent. Again, I am NOT a fan of Nate - he's annoying and whiney at the best of times. But I can understand SOME of his actions. Her friends on the other hand were just awful & immature - if my mates stuffed around with my work phone while accepting all my lush designer things, I would be LIVID!

I felt a bit sorry for Nate when she missed his birthday. I think he was more sad about the fact that they were growing apart than the fact that she had missed his special day.

Re point 2: it’s ONE birthday. Sometimes people have to miss those for work functions, it’s not the end of the world or even a pattern of behavior. She’s been there for her friends every other time, she only missed one event (she even goes to Lilly’s art gallery later)

Actually FROM THIS FILM, I don’t see why the working environment is so toxic (apart from starving yourself) … Andy knew beyond nothing when she first came into the scene, and even though her colleagues weren’t exactly cheering her on … her boss tolerated her and gave her enough tries until she succeeded in her job her acid-tongued coworker always revealed to her exactly what to do to survive (based on her own experience of course) and Nigel looked out for her from the beginning. That Andy stabbed Emily in the back is not a testament to the viciousness of fashion industry … it’s ANY industry so long as you want to climb high enough.
@violetlavi2207

I mean…super early and late work hours (made clear especially by Andy’s dad’s words), the diet culture being pretty rampant (Emily’s eating disorder and also what Nigel says, about 0 being the new 2-it’s common), Miranda having exacting standards which are, at times, impossible (or at least extremely difficult) to meet. It’s a fairly toxic environment

After I firmly said, "I really don't care about fashion", the woman I deeply fell in love with recently recommended me this movie, she insisted a couple times and even said that, in a certain way, "I'm Andy". My life has not been particularly good these past months, tough days, constant feeling of drowning, even in shallow waters, I felt like I lost the little confidence I gained throughout the years and that I don't fit... I liked the movie and though I catched a couple of messages and made kind of appreciate the fashion biz more I still struggled in understanding certain points, attitudes, hidden messages, etc. This was such a great and pleasant video to analyze. I've still need to figure by my own certain things, but this video definitely helped me understand key points. Thank you very much for this, I hope you have a great day and you wardrobe full of nice shoes and jackets.

If you look at Andy's diary you notice her appointment was with Elias Clarke a epy of Conde Nast or newscorpe not runway magazine, she wasn't trying to work for miranda/the fashion industry and in the deleted scenes with HR she is given a choice as an admin for auto universe or runway, there is no evidence she had applied for other jobs as a journalist. She was probably seeing about freelance opportunites for the magazines and newspapers Elias clarke owns.

Lesson 1: Avoid toxic people like that stupid BF and her jealous friends. They were hypocrites doing the same things she did wishing they could be in her place! I didn't like the ending at all! My ending would be Miranda and Andie kissing each other so hard in the car! xD

Um no. Everyone doesn't have those kind of values. Money, fame, power, isn't the total measure of success. If your self image is tied with what you cant afford then when you fall on hard times, so will your self image be drawn down. Being happy shouldn't be tied to just those things.
