Love this, I'm going to reverse the facing so it goes on the front. Like a mock border. Must go play with this now, thanks.

This is really a neat concept, especially for anything you want to hang. Personally, I have never see this technique even though I have been sewing for over sixty years. This is a hack I will definitely use a lot. Thanks for sharing.

I am going to try this in reverse, on a baby quilt. I will make the binding strips a little narrower, the corner triangles a little smaller AND THEN I will apply the facing to the back and fold it over to the front. Then I can do edge stitching and/or top stitching all the way around to secure the binding. Thanks for the idea and clear instructions.

I love this!! I have struggled figuring out how to bind for so long, some techniques have you have one giant long binding strip that you fold backwards and forwards around the corners and it has confused me but this is so crisp and beautiful, I have to try it on a project I've had waiting for finish for 5 years. I am ready for the freedom of having a project finally complete! Thank you and God bless you! I look forward to learning all I can from you! :)

I did this facing once on a large quilt-as-you-go baby play mat I made. The quilt was so thick that ordinary binding would be very difficult to sew on but this facing idea was ideal. It worked great. I sewed mine down with the machine so everything was reversable and nothing could catch and tear because it was made to throw on the floor for baby to roll around and play on. Love your cat, looks lovely.

You know that you can use Elmer's water soluble washable glue to baste things which is much less expensive than the spray-base. I do it all the time. It washes right out and fluffs right up. At first washing. My needle has no problem going through dried glue and as a bonus it acts like fabrics stabilizer when quilting.

I have been using facing for my table runners 1) I can quilt them out flat (unlike with pillowcasing) 2) I can match the facing to the border so the front and back match, and 3) no bulky binding corners . The gap in the facing corners eliminates the bulk. Love this! Plus you can feel the edge of the facing as you topstitch on the front so you never stray into the backing fabric.

You just showed everyone how to finish clothing! I don't quilt! But did take a free motion class to learn how to do decorative sewing. I dont always straight hem unless a stabie woven but especially knits. I make facings like this but still call it binding! I started never folding at seam! I fold over seam! I sometimes do a single fabric not folded if making a large cuff. This is also how to do easy shawl collar on a jacket! I cut many tops including sweatshirts especially okd ones or from thrift straight up front. Slightly V neckline. Add sawlmcolkar and matching cuffs! I also hem unstable knits with a more stable tshirt material cut across non stretch direction! Besides fitting to you at sides that all you do to finish clothing remakes.

Am I the only one who would make it the other way around with contrasting fabric? So that the triangles shows on the front, thereby framing the piece? The straight pieces can be folded and ironed beforehand, and then just stitched down (machine or invisible hand stitch). Love that cat!

Sheri, I’ve watched this a couple of times and am sure now that I’m going to try it out on my grandson’s Steampunk wall hanging I’m making for his birthday in May. Then I will do it on my latest project, a throw that is about 58 x 58. The border of the throw is small squares and a regular binding would take up too much space. Thanks for the video, it is a great option!

This is brilliant, if you sew the binding on the back first an a different colour from front will make a lovely & different binding on the front. Makes binding a whole lot easier. Thank you ❤😊
