I saw an Air Force servicemen in the convenience this morning with his daughter. I thanked him for his service. 🇺🇲🦅🌎 Had me thinking of all the patriotic songs Gen X knew as kids that the last 2 generations have been denied. All since they removed our flag🇺🇲 from every classroom. No pledge of allegiance, no national anthems or unity in schools. The evil has slowly crept in until this moment where it's up in our faces these days.

@@SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPath This reminds me of the country that I grew up in. It no longer exists. If you told people in the 50's what would become or their beloved country (that they so valiantly defended in World War II )and what Martin Luther King so poignantly pointed out ( a man should be judged by the quality of his character not by the color of his skin)(in the 60's) that we would willingly give up our basic freedoms so easily , they would have said you were crazy. The U.S. is turning into a dystopian ,Orwellian, nightmare. The children of today will think it's normal. This video is a picture of a country that is now just a memory. And when those of us who remember it pass, it will be lost for good.

I came back because I sung this song every morning during Elementary school at Helen S. Edward's in New Orleans, La. and now, 20 something years later, my children are singing this song too, everyday after the Pledge of Allegiance. Bringing back memories of all types. Green and Blue plaid skirts with matching neck bows that snapped with pearl buttons, crisp white button down school shirts that smelled of lemon scented starch. Mandarin oranges, teddy grahams, chocolate milk while watching _Arthur_ the tv show on top of that large area rug next to Bobby. Bobby's so pretty with freckles, red hair, chubby cheeks and nikes but his knees are always dirty and my mom tells me that we're "4th cousins, 3 times removed on my father's side so you should stop staring." He smells like Irish spring soap, and granny Smith apples. Must be those gummy lifesavers he keeps in the back pocket of his too tight blue uniform shorts. He has a bag of marbles and he gave me a pretty. 1 day I'll give him an olive to hold in his cheeks and KC Masterpiece potato chips to thank him for the gift that I play with in my nightly bath and he'll kiss me on the cheeks. 😍 The smell of my school. reminiscent of clay, sand and plastic baby dolls accompanied with fake baby bottles that never emptied and, oh my god, the never ending smell of finger paint and paste. Sunny and humid hurried walks pass the vietnamese corner store that sold cherry flavored taffy that I called "lipstick candy" but my parents called "flipsticks", coconut "long boys" and 2 for a nickel tootsie rolls,"frooties" all the while fingering that fresh dollar that's in my top cigarette pocket, waiting on my tip toes, blue Patent leather Mary Jane's and white socks with ruffles on them that are so big that they drag on the the floor and create a small dirty gray rim of those socks that my mom hand washed and ironed the night before (I only have 1 pair, she'll beat me when she sees the condition of them upon my return home but I dont care. Candy is life and all punishments are worth it in the pursuit of candy.), for the cashier to fill my brown paper bag with my afterschool goodies. Making daisy head dresses out of the wild flowers on the playground. Holding my nose as I walk pass those pesky, musky and overtly sweet smelling pink and yellow flowers that hung from trees with smooth flexible bark and small in diameter tree trunks. The kind that my grandmother would get the switch from whenever I stole a piece of still hot praline candy off of her kitchen counter. Live oak trees that seemed taller than I could ever hope to fly, pecan trees and misbaleens that the younger kids called kumquats. Front porch sitting, frozen cup sipping. Heaven God Bless the US but most importantly. God Bless New Orleans and my Elementary school teachers. I remember you all fondly.
