The voice of Pearl is Deedee Magno, an actress broadway singer. From what I understand It's Over, Isn't It wasn't originally intended to be so dramatic, but she brought such energy and verve to the song they changed things to suit it.

Fun fact: the episode Mr. Greg was written right after the first time Cartoon Network discussed making the movie with Rebecca Sugar, and she used this episode to kinda test the waters on writing a musical! There's also an episode in season 5 that was her "practice" for writing an ensemble song.

In the episode where Steven and Amethyst meet Vidalia, you an see wedding pictures of a young Yellowtail on the fridge when they eating dinner. With no hat and no beard, he is the spitting image of Onion. Same head shape, same face, and same hair. Also, in the flashback episode when Greg meets Rose, Vidalia and Marty were getting busy in the back of Greg's van.

Pearl is of course still not over it because Rose died only 14 years ago. Put yourself in her shoes. You’re a practically immortal gem who’s thousands of years old. You’ve been in love with someone and had a very strong connection with them for thousands of years as well. And she died, which doesn’t happen often with gems, and has never happened in the traumatic and confusing circumstance that it did. But most importantly, 14 years for a millennia old gem is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. She’s understandably still grieving because it felt like it happened just yesterday. And now like she said “now I’ve got to be there for her son.” she’s raising her son now. Her son who she had with the person she chose instead of her, and the reason she died from. It’s rough. I feel for both of them, because I can understand why Pearl still can’t move on. And I can also understand Greg because it’s not his fault, and he’s trying to get along with her. Greg was able to grieve better about Rose’s death because 14 years feels way longer for a human than for a gem. He also better understands raising a child and I believe that he’s not fully over it, he just hides his emotions better than Pearl, and comes off as chill, meanwhile Pearl bottles hers up until she explodes and also takes her anger out in small jabs at him. Like he said, it was selfish for him to stay while he knew how she felt about her, but it still wasn’t really his fault. Things were understandably rough for them. Happy they patched things up this episode.

There's a theory that's pretty well supported in the show that Lars is trans and that's why he reacts the way he does in this episode. Why he never wears the heart gauges, how he's concerned with the physical aspect of Steven possessing him rather than anything else, and his parents reaction to him asking "who's Laramy?" And the moms concern about messing it up. Laramy is a "girls name" and Lars is not. There's obviously more hints in the show but this episode really solidified the theory.

YESSSS FINALLY SOMEONE COMMENTED ABOUT IT THANK YOU!!!! It's funny bc I'm a trans guy and I absolutely HATED lars when i was still an egg, but now that I'm out and I rewatched the show, he's gotta be one of the most relatable characters to me! (and one of my favourites!!) I even tried doing some research about it and I found that "master document" Tumblr post with every evidence/hints of Lars being trans and recontextualizing some episodes with these theories! I think that maybe if SU came out today or in a time where people are more accepting towards trans representation, maybe there would be an episode or plot point about Lars' trans experience, but oh well I can dream!

So in the elementary school where I used to teach we did this yearly program where this educational group would bring animals into the classroom and the kids got to meet them, and pet some of them, and one year they brought a sloth!
