I was lucky to come across Bettye years ago when there was a radio programme celebrating the release of an album which was thought to have been lost in a fire from way back at the start of her career. Terrific singer as a teenager. Her voice has of course changed greatly over the decades, but she always uses it with great skill to match the emotion of her songs. Courageous to try one of her most famous songs, but you pulled it off. Love the sparse guitar. And you found just the right tone for your vocals. Wonderful.

I checked it out a few months ago for nostalgic reasons and thought that I could play the lead on acoustic guitar because of what you mentioned . . . 'guitar solo over an open string', the 'E'. I gave this a full and close listen and enjoyed the growley bluesyness (sp?) of your singing, reminiscent maybe of Tom Waits or Nick Cave and I dug the bass string-backed solo which really filled out the sound of the single guitar - good trick that!

the sound quality you have in this room is crazy cool. I think you record on an ipad or so? Its crazy cool !! Your voice sounds fascinating and husky in this tune!! I love your energey and the dynamic you had during the singing during the loud and low parts!! There was the passion in the chorus and i loved the guitar solo!! You truly know wha you are doing here and deliver this so effortlessly! That had a class that us normal folks cant even reach!!

Loo . . . . Firstly, I have to say NO!! . . . I wasn't let down easy. 😡 . . . but life goes on. 🙄 🤷🏻‍♂ We played this tune in the duo I was in for seven-eight years back in the eighties. I played the bass and Maree sang and played keys. I was feelin' a bit nostalgic a few months ago and checked it out on YT. Besides the fact I like the song, I wanted to play it acoustically with the lead (it wouldn't have worked if I hadn't), which as you would have heard, has a constant Bass, that is - 'E'.
