Another timely video that brings up exactly what I’m going through & struggling with at 6 months of being dye free. Thank you for being so open & honest. Your wisdom is invaluable & encouraging. So glad you got to have some fun family time!! 🤍

I’m going cold turkey. I started in September. I’ve had so many moments where I got discouraged and was ready to reach for the dye but now I’m so glad I didn’t as I feel that I’m past the stage where I’m fed up and I’m now really excited about the end result. So stick with it girls, it’s worth it and you’re worth it! The first weeks are hard as the roots look like roots but once the roots start getting longer they no longer look like roots and once my grey got to top of ears that’s when I started to get excited about the end result and now I’m really enjoying seeing the changes.

I can relate to ALL of your comments. I just started month 8 of my silver hair journey and although I'm pretty far along, I'm not as far as I had hoped I would be at this stage. My sister who is 2 years older than me and definitely does not understand my decision to embrace my natural silver, had been very quiet about it until just recently and is more encouraging now that she sees my progress. I did decide to get baby highlights to lighten up my dark brown hair for an easier blend but by doing that I really damaged my hair even further. Now, I have a mix of very healthy natural hair and very dry damaged blonde hair. I just cut my hair very short to get rid of some of the damaged hair. Sometimes, I wish I had done what those awesome women are doing and just let my silver grow in and keep my brown hair as well. However, for me, the route I chose oddly may have helped me stay on course because my goal now is not only to complete my journey but to have a full head of healthy hair. If I back out and dye it now, I will be worse off than I have ever been by damaging all of my hair and I would be back to chasing that grey growth again every 3 weeks! :-(

For me it was also around your stage that I had the hardest time!! You are almost past the hard part!! I’m so glad to hear your sister has started encouraging you because that will totally help!! I think you are going to love how healthy your hair is at the end of all this too!! Thx for this great comment!!!

Also I have grown a distrust in hairsalons now that I know that dye was damaging my hair and that they did not warn me.Has anyone experienced this? ( Sorry for my English I am French😂🇫🇷😊)

I am starting to feel this about a lot of things geared at women…. Birth control, menopause approaches, ingredients in makeup… hair dye too!!

Yes I had 2 bad experiences with different hairdresser's in the same year 2 lots of overprocessing. Both times I lost vast amounts of hair and it was the first time I had family milestone birthdays an 18th and 21st and 50th plus 2 important weddings one after the other, it was extremely stressful feeling uncomfortable in my own body. It is 3yrs this year in November that I stopped all colouring and I'm quite grey with some natural brown hair growing at the back. It is growing in quite thinly but I'm hoping that will improve a little as time goes on. I miss my blonde locks and to make it worse I was always getting nice compliments about it.😔

My journey is going to be a long time with the demarcation line. My hair is super long and I do have am emotional attachment to the length. I've had long hair most of my life and I didn't get my first real haircut until I was 19. My mother died at age 84 and had beautiful long hair. When she passed away, my hair was shoulder length and I purposely started growing mine long, that was 2007. I'm 66 next week and so ready to be a silver sister yet being brand new at this, I'm already thinking, oh no I probably need to cut my hair. Your short cut looked amazing!
@amandasilversister Жыл бұрын
If you are attached to your length I don’t think I would go too short…. Just constant trims maybe. I have had long and short so it wasn’t too hard for me to go short. Don’t do anything too drastic unless you are sure bc the grey alone will be a big change!

I'll hit 1 year of no dye in September. My silver and grey natural hair is doing OK, but I do have yellowing, and have tried various shampoos and conditioners, but its not removing the yellow tint. I very rarely use heat tools, (but do have the odd cigarette) I've tried, washing up liquid, clarifying shampoos, mauve ones, lemon, but yellow stain remaining. Anyone know of a safe way to remove? Your hair is lovely.
@amandasilversister Жыл бұрын
So a few other things can be causing it…. Exposure to the sun and I was finding my hairspray had a yellow tint to it so I changed to a clear one…. Do you happen to have hard water???
@kathylaycock2113 Жыл бұрын
@@amandasilversister - yes, very hard.
@amandasilversister Жыл бұрын
@@kathylaycock2113 that could be your issue then. So yes, you need a clarifying shampoo ( and that likely most important with your hard water) but you might want to look into an attachment for your shower that will take out the hard chemicals! They could be preventing your products from working!!
@kathylaycock2113 Жыл бұрын
@@amandasilversister - thankyou, I will look at a shower attachment and give it a try.

@@kathylaycock2113I had hard water in my previous house ( we moved in January) and I had just discovered that I needed that!! I was struggling bc of my hard water with yellow too!

Did she go cold turkey? Maybe she didn't and then thinks her way of having done it is better. Some people are supportive of women going grey but think that the demarcation line is gross. I am 15 months in, went cold turkey , worth every minute of it and I also had a loooot of "silent" people in my family.
