I don’t see it as contradictory. When he says “Make a schedule” he means compile everything you need to do and put times to it so you become as productive as possible. When he says “Don’t get stuck in a routine” I think he means don’t get stuck in cycles if they aren’t helping you to accomplish goals/better yourself; once a routine becomes harmful to your growth and/or wellbeing, it’s time to find something new.

Both this video and the 'Following Your Dreams Will Make You Miserable' are the most inspiring with a lot of real stuff mentioned in them. Getting somewhere and following a passion genuinely is difficult but it is more challenging to get back up when one falls down after a certain amount of success, significant achievements or pure progress.
