Re: happy music, the same thing happens in film with drama awarded and lauded above comedy. I think there is may be something at least cultural if not more deeply psychological going on here. I know we tend to be more reactive to fear, and to remember and focus on fearful and negative stimuli more. I think this could easily bleed over into our understanding of art too. We are not blank slates, and the particular benefits and deficits that make us human likely shape our art and our reactions to it.
