The only requirement for having a favourite band is that you generally like their stuff more than most other bands. You are not required to study their entire discography. Just listen to whatever you want and don't worry about whether other people think you are a 'real fan' or not.

Agreed. It was a stupid question, and a terrible answer.
@mattschumacher45814 жыл бұрын
seth exactly. Some artists have a lot of records and many of them aren’t as good or as memorable. Like I can say that Rolling Stones is my favorite band without listening to their awful disco records and the other stuff they released after that. I just said they’re my favorite band I didn’t say I’m their number one fan.

Can i lets argue your argument for experimentation. I agree with you, but to play devils advocate i am going to rephrase the question without mentioning Eminem and say you could be rating based on the bias of experiencing the good feeling of new music. I thought kids see ghost was good for a week because it was a new sound but then i look back on it and dont like the subject matter, their ideas, and dont find much interesting to it other then it was new kanye and new cudi, which.. if i di t gve the bias of liking their eary work it would mean NOTHING to me ans i wouldnt get that feeling. Essentially my argument is its cool to acknowledge when bias and experimentatin makes u fee refreshed but if you are rating something for what it is should that stuff matter. My counterargument to this mindset is that your way of rating music is biased. You are telling us the way it made you feel. The same way theres theory to music but there is no theoritical way to take away bias and say "HA, without comparing this to anything else, pretending its the only album and judging it without bias this album is perfect". At the same time, couldnt i argue that a ten should be your favorite music, and wven tho its annoying when a band has every album sound the same buaybe they are jsut trying to perfect that souns. Because wouldnt they be compromising their artistic integrity if they switched directions to give people a new feeling? Or isnt tht was music is? Isnt that why sampling is so cool, or when brockhampton on iridescence recreates stuff we heard before in their own way. For some forms of art you need bias, you need nostalgia to exist and you need another concrete form of music to be manipulated. I guess im asking if we should seperate the how the music made us feel vs what it actually sounds like (as in if no other music existed, w.o bias how does it sound).. or are those biases what makes writing about mysic so interesting and why opinions stay fresh. (After writing that last sentence out I know where I stand - we need those bias' to keep music fresh and i think what you were trynna say is that you dont like music simply.cus its experimental but you try n find experimental music that sounds good to you!

I'd like to review Fantano's Bass Guitar Intro: Pretty Choppy, seems like he had a tenuous grasp of where he wanted to go with it. I mean it's something we've all heard before, he's done this before infrequently throughout out other videos and you would think at this point in his bass guitar intro timeline he would have progressed more. 2/5 stars.

When you haven't heard much of the discography of one of your favourite artists... The question is "why is this one of your favourite artists?" What with certain artists really HIT you? What in music is important to you? The albums? The songs? Knowing all the lyrics? Knowing all the melodies and rhythms? The social movement? Politics? It's an individual thing, isn't it? One of my favourite artists is James Brown. I have probably not heard even ten percent of his discography. But it isn't his ability to create perfect albums that I love. It's his voice, persona, some of his funkiest and most soulful songs, his moves, his whole presence. I think Tom Waits has delivered a lot better albums as a whole than James Brown usually did, although he has delivered great albums too. But James Brown is a way bigger influence on me personally. I don't care about his less good stuff. It doesn't take the attention way from what I love about his music. He's one of my absolute favourites. He's not the one I know the most about. But he's been diggin into my soul with his funk. It's there, and it can't be removed.

Disco Donn Kanye understands art.. it’s about ideas and it’s about sharing those ideas or make something creative with them or learn from the past or the present and show respect for it in different way with trying to make something original with it .. but I can be wrong I am sadly so not a artist.. life right..! 😔😁😜

About the favorite band thing, I guess it could be defined as the band who made the person’s favorite song, I don’t have a problem with that. But at the same time, someone could say it is the one band from which they like the most stuff. It’s down to how you feel honestly but my point is that it’s reasonable to say your favorite band is one of which you haven’t heard much.

You know, that answer explaining why musicians really struggle with getting out there in this decade really resonated with me. I really needed some confirmation that other people are feeling how I feel. I have toured twice at the beginning of the decade and I want to get back out there, but I can't take the risk anymore. I'm 28 and I need to be able to pay rent and eat anything. The game has changed a bit, and I'm not sure I know how to catch up. Sometimes I wonder if I failed. But at least now I know, it's not just me.

I think it's good to use 6ix9ine as a new example for the art v artist debate. I've written a few articles about the art v artist debate, but I think 6ix9ine gives a different perspective. I think his music is trash, and I've only argued about separating art and the artists when I like their product. But what happens when you legitimately hate the material an artist puts out while also disagreeing with the artist? Should this be given less weight than controversial artists that you like? We can make caveats for people that we love that are total shitbags, but should it be any different for people that also produce art that we hate? I think this would be really interesting to explore.
@SatoshiKong6 жыл бұрын
Quality comment.
@loganleatherman76475 жыл бұрын
If you hate the art an artist puts out and you hate the artist the best thing to do is just ignore the artist. If enough people do this, he/she will eventually go away.
