@Daiton455 жыл бұрын
@@yvngsn0w Nah I get it as a long time Earl fan SRS is quite different from his old work, the only project from him that sounds somewhat similar is Solace. The sample-heavy, lo-fi sound in his new shit isn't for everyone. In my opinion, I think it's perfect for his subject matter and it suits his melancholy, off-kilter flow and Earl's writing is just incredible throughout the album. I suppose the fact that there are pretty much no hooks; it's just constant heavy beats and lyrics that are very personal to him as opposed to the more quotable Earl we've got in the past was always going to make this project divisive
@Ofcnezho4 жыл бұрын
Some Rap Songs is so disgusting. Disgusting in how sad it is. I actually almost couldn't finish it because I noticed I was tearing up listening to The Mint (feat. Navy Blue). I can't stomach the amount of pain, misery, and sorrow that is coming from this album, yet alone a "Human Being". It's so off-putting. But, it does it on purpose, and it will give you a sense of loneliness, hopelessness and a depression that is certainly present in this album. If you read up on Earl's life "story", You'd find that his own mother sent him off to a boarding school to be dealt with for his "bad behavior". Now, this is just my opinion and I certainly don't speak for Earl, but imagine the stress and agony of not being able to be with the people who love and care about you and have to put your career on hold to be apprehended for years of your adolescence? He's only five years older than me. No person that young should be feeling that devastated. That album shouts that to you. It's messy and sloppy on purpose. You will know how he's feeling. I don't particularly like the album, per se, but from a good listen. I think it does the justice of being a very well put together album. I encourage you to give it a try and be in the mindset of someone like Earl. It works. Melonman speaks the truth .

@@elis1716 It's insane how much this comment has not aged at all. I've grown to literally fucking adore this album from front to back. Everything about it just puts me in such a miserable mood but I love it. It began to hold so much weight to me in my trying times as of late, and this album was quickly to become one of my favorites.
@mattearl12704 жыл бұрын
@@elis1716 well consider thematically powerful albums like To Pimp A Butterfly and 4 Your Eyez Only, if the songs had poor production or didn't sound good to listeners then they would have performed much more poorly. That's why I don't fuck with Earl's music, just him quietly rapping over shitty beats that just isn't enjoyable to listen to whatsoever. But dismissing any criticism as "oh you just don't understand" is mental, you don't know anything about me lol, I've tried getting into his music on many different occasions but to me man I don't see any appeal at all, you can have the best lyricism on planet earth but if it sounds like ass to listeners then what's the point is what I'm saying.

P.Haze but the feeling in each instrumental along with the wordplay is what sets it apart. I really feel earls depression. In a trippier redd song he says “don’t show emotions I don’t have no heart” and it just sounds edgy for edgy’ sake but earl has s way of putting words together that are very descriptive... earl didn’t fail
@PHaze-lc9we5 жыл бұрын
I personally don't think the album is bad and I'm happy you enjoy it. What I was trying to say is that it's much more difficult to call experimental music objectively bad since it might have enjoyable properties that some people, like you, are able to see and others, like me, aren't. Music might be the most subjective art form in existence, which is why I generally hesitate to say an album sucks just because I don't enjoy it. Hell, I don't enjoy TPAB, but never in a thousand years I'd dare to call that a bad album.

It really wasn’t, especially considering one is a zaney & vibey pyschadelic rap record and the other is a mainstream accessible Christian rap album. Both are good but they aren’t comparable in sound & no way is it an improvement

@ya9thelatinogringo5 жыл бұрын
@Will Doge I don't hate it, because there are good things about it, but there's no focus. you can say "oh it reflects his mind state" IDLS was also about his depression but was way better because of the focus. the production is pretty weak. it isn't THAT "experimental", it's kind of just lo fi boom bap with slightly weirder loops. most of the time it completely doesn't fit with the lyrics. The rapping is still good but it too suffers from lack of focus. there's some great lyrical ideas that aren't full developed. also, all the songs are too short, to the point that it negatively affects the music. I'm kind of playing devils advocate, but I much prefer IDLS
@32OrtonEdge32dh5 жыл бұрын
Wild Doge I'm honestly not usually the biggest fan of experimental hip-hop in general, and on the rare occasions when I am it's definitely not like SRS. I liked one or two beats like The Mint but overall they're just forgettable. Earl's flow really takes me out of it all, no songs stand out at all, the lo-fi aspect to me really steps on the poignancy of the lyrics (not that I dislike anything lo-fi), there's just nothing I can take away from it. It starts and ends and I feel like nothing happened in the middle. It doesn't have to be fast or loud or something like that to hold my attention but it's gotta bring something more to the table

How do you even tell if a track is produced well, produced awfully, or intentionally produced bad? Since all music is sorta just subjectively good or bad or whatever based on what someone thinks of it, is there some technical part I'm missing which defines how good or bad a track is?
@devynglenn76975 жыл бұрын
You've got a really good point. Art in general and opinions in general are all subjective. Some people looks down upon art for this reason. But, for me, when it comes to low quality music. I usually just ask myself, "does the poor quality production/instrumental add anything of value to this? Or is it just shitty for no reason?" Lmao

@HyenaFox5 жыл бұрын
Eh, not really. Cool joke though, but anything really above a light to decent 5 could be considered a "Not Bad" album, because, at least how I interpret it, 5 is indifference. I know the waves of endless 7.0s from IGN and IMDB have kind of warped our perception of /10 style ratings, but really, anything below a 7 isn't BAD. Really, I wouldn't consider it actively BAD until 4/10 and below. But yeah, they are hundreds of albums which did not get 10/10s that Fantano has gone on record to use the word "good" when describing them as a whole. When we all fall asleep, Igor, Flower Boy, The Life of Pablo, DAMN, Good Kid Maad City, Blonde, Ctrl, Coloring Book, and way more than possible to name.
