Let's build a Track on the Digitakt - Part 2: Finding Drums and Creating the Bass

Hello everyone. In this new little Series of "Let's Create" Videos i want to show you the full Workflow of how i start a Track, how i continue working on it, how i "finish" it and finally jam it out.
In this second Part it's about finding Drums to start with and creating the Bass for the Track.

Here we go with the next Part of my little Video Series. Just a little side note: PLEASE ignore the whole Mixing for the moment! The Track is still in the making and i will fix this in later Videos. While im recording everything it is sadly not possible for me to check the Mix on my Hifi-System at the same time. Has to do with my whole Driver configuration. But we get a better Mix once we progress further - for sure! :-) Cheers.

Couldn't you mimic a bandreject filter by layering the kick sample twice - one with a Highpass and one with a lowpass that cut the desired frequency?

nice idea. could indeed work. but is a bit fiddly, because: you effectively have to change the filter on both tracks at the same time for that purpose. otherwise you wont find the sweat spot that easily i guess. but its worth a try, yeah. nice idea mate, indeed! :-)

Instead of a band reject, could you load the same sample onto 2 tracks, low-pass one and high-pass the other to create a notch, and then resample that?

Hey! I have the same problem with the Heat... I had it connected through the Elektron Hub along with other synths, and I often ended up with this extremely frustrating issue. I've switch it to an isolated USB2 port by itself and it's been fine so far...

thank you very much for your reply mate! nice to hear that it worked for you. i already have it on an isolated USB Hub (double checked that in my System Preferences). The problem is usually not there when i record much shorter takes. But once its recording longer than 10 Minutes, these issues occur on a regular basis. Sometimes the whole recording is messed up; luckily it was just a "short" 2 Minute section this time. Really really annoying!

oh! you are on Mac... I am on Windows 10 ;) Sounds like the issue is not OS dependant though :s I get the exact same buffer distortion out of mine before =( I'll point it out to Elektron

no, im not on Mac at the moment, im on Windows too. But Windows 7 in my case. I had similar issues with my Macbook though. You think this could have to do with the Buffer Settings? They are very high already (in my case) - running 512 Samples here. Filing a Bug report to Elektron might indeed be a good idea.

oh, "system preferences" is a mac thing ;) I don't think it has to do with buffer size, but that sound is definitely buffer related. I sent a msg to my elektron contact, we'll see if they are aware or not.

umonox tty raise your buffer size to 1028 or around there. Then try. Buffer sizes are always an issue on macs when projects get large and with some hardware. I had same issue on my access virus ti. And it helped.

Sometimes you just have to make or buy your own kick or other samples and load them in. Maybe Elektron will add additional filter types some times, who knows.

Did you change the tone of the bass with the chromatic keyboard or just changed the tune parameter for each trig?

o boy.. man merkt das du viele Stunden mit dem Teil verbracht hast.. manche Schritte etwas langsamer erklärt wäre schon geil. Oder ich lass das Video langsamer laufen :) :) danke jedenfalls für die Ideenlieferung!

danke danke :-) Ist nicht ganz einfach den richtigen Takt für alle zu finden ;-) Aber es geht bei den Videos auch darum zu zeigen, wie ich arbeite. Und so arbeite ich meistens: Schnell was gemacht - hmm, läuft nicht so, gut - schnell wieder weg damit und weiter gehts :-D freut mich aber, dass es dir dennoch was bringt. Grüße
