This kit of the Hawken Woodsman rifle, in percussion, is made in Spain by Ardesa, and marketed in USA by Traditions. Good rifle for hunting. Saludos desde España.

Looks like a pretty good kit and if you don't hurry with putting it together, you'll have a good rifle. The cheap parts won't be a problem to replace with better quality ones. Enjoy.

This is actually awesome! I’m on a budget looking for a muzzle loader and I’m more than willing to put in some work to save on upfront cost! Can’t wait to build one.

Ethan, thanks so much for making this video series. I had been thinking about getting into a black powder rifle kit for a while and after watching this series went looking for one. Turned out only Midway USA had them and they were on sale! Now I have my kit to work on over the winter here in the NC mountains, and I'll be taking my time after I get my workspace cleared. I usually tear right into something new, but vowed not to just add another project to my to do list. I also have an unfired 1980's Armsport .44 "Colt Navy" brass frame revolver from my Brother's estate to get familiar with.

My grandpa built a CVA Hawken percussion kit in .54 caliber many years ago. Took a deer at 100 yards it when I was a kid. Recently picked up a Spanish.32 caliber hawken myself. Unfortunately CVA doesn’t make a kit these days so I’ll have to get one of these and build it myself with metal sights not sure how I feel about that ram rod it comes with personally I think I’ll probably make a wooden one or get a wood grain fiberglass one for it

I built the short hex barrel kit. The only issue I had was the metal front sight. I blued it. Used Crimson Fire stain. The wood came out red. Looks beautiful. The set trigger, ? .. the rear set trigger, makes the front one a "hair trigger. I love it. *** Better look long and hard for the #11 percussion caps. Took me 6 months of looking for them. Found them at a Walmart on the clearance rack, cci brand, $5.62 . I bought all 9 packages .

Always thought the trigger guards were hideous and cheap on these. Also, pretty rough on your middle and ring fingers when taking a shot. I re-profiled and beveled mine, and cut the ridiculous ring off.

I bought a solid carbon fiber rod and epoxied the brass ends on it. It made a great rammer. When assembled, the trigger arm that released the sear was a full .125" too low. (As if the in-letting for the lock was too low) The trigger needed 1/2" stroke before it would drop the hammer. I made a complete new trigger with more height to the arm and brass plated it. Now the trigger has 1/32" take up before the hammer falls. It is a beautiful rifle and shoots well.

my word of wisdom don't try to bend any of Traditions brass. I have an entry thimble that I wanted to fit the line of the stock and well now I have a two piece entry thimble. You should do one basic kit and then another with all the work that could be done to one (sights, engraving, carving, extra inlays, and wire inlays). or do it to this one after you finish the basic build.

@@nationalmuzzleloadingrifle8871 I am impressed with the Kibler kits from what I seen of them. But for new guys that don't have real black powdering in the area to purchase it's not really an option until he comes out with a percussion gun or you convert it to percussion.

Hey Ethan. Quick question. Have watched several of your videos. I have put together a tradition ky rifle kit and am wanting to do a half stock gun next. I noticed you have done a traditions hawken and the gemmed hawken. I would appreciate any input on whit kit was easier to assemble, best fit and finish, durability, accuracy? Basically do you like one better than the other or is there a standout between the 2 as far as kit assembly and quality. I appreciate your time and best of luck with future builds/ hunts.

I no nothing about black powder so why no smokeless powder? What does it do and why is it different 🤔
@joshuariddensdale2126
@joshuariddensdale2126 Жыл бұрын
Smokeless powder burns at much higher pressure than black powder. If you were to use smokeless in a muzzleloader, the gun would quite literally blow up in your face. Not that black powder isn't without its own share of risks. Especially with revolvers. A relatively rare but dangerous occurrence with black powder revolvers is the "chain fire", where more than one chamber fires at once. To prevent chain fire, it's necessary to use special grease to cover the end of the chambers.

$359.00 is a ridiculous price you can build a budget AR for that price almost a fair price for an unfinished rifle kit of that quality would be 100 maybe 150 that would be a fair price

While it may sort of look "Hawken-ish", I stopped watching when I saw the brass trigger guard. They could have used iron/steel furniture to at least try to make it look correct. Used Thompson Center "Hawkens" can be had used at gun shows for $300. Those are way better quality than this foreign mystery metal.

@@Nick-wn1xw , the TC may have brass furniture, but it still has way better quality steel components.
