Hi guys! Just a short startup of this lovely old 1954 Ford Crestline Convertible that my friend Agent 0826 bought last year... I hadn't heard it run, so I figured I'd ask if he would fire it up!
She's a lovely old girl, and we hope to get to work on it as soon as his Toyota Land Cruiser is finished...

..In 1954, Ford was ahead of Chevrolet..in the styling department(newer body design, more modern styling)...and Ford had an overhead-valve V8, Chevy did not..6 cyl. only..things flip-flopped the next year, however..Chevrolet had a new OHV V8 that would become a legend and be produced for over 40 years(not true of the Y-Block)..Ford would still have 6 volt electricals, where Chevy went to 12 volt..and Chevy had it all in the styling department(to be fair, the '55 Ford is not a bad looking car by any means-but it is no '55 Chevy!)...and I'm pretty sure Chevrolet outsold Ford in 1955...

Scott you have to do a quick patch on those panels and do a "sketchy" dust in with a "shit blend" color match. 😀

The 54 Fords made in Canada were still flathead engines. They were changed to the OHV for 55 in Canada, but still were 6volt electrical until 56

What a classic! I once had a 1956 ford convertible with a 239 Y block. I found a 292 out of a 1957 ford installed and it had the oil port problem on the rockers. The push rods would occasionally shake loose. It was green and white with a black roof. I still dream about it to this day. I owned it from October of 1966 till May of 1967...................................

What a cool car. I have a 54 chevy 210 2 door that I have worked on over the years. It now has a 350 crate engine a 200 R4 transmission and a 10 bolt corvette rear end. I have also bolted a Chassis engineering front end under it with a flaming River steering column. It has 4 wheel disc brakes. I could go on but it still needs loving (paint and interior). It now has a valve cover leak as well a radiator connection leak where it connects to the intake. I have somewhat gotten burned out on it. I start it on the weekends and let it warm up then pull it back into the garage. I heard that the weather is supposed to be in the 20's there this weekend. It's been in the 90's here. We (my partner in crime) and myself work outside alot and I am about the color of a raisin. Not one of those California gold raisins but a regular dark raisin.

So my partner in crime is kicking around the idea of buying an electric car. So we got to talking and I pointed out that a lot of car businesses will go by-by (out of business). Muffler shops, parts shops, machine shops, repair shops... I figure you will need to be an electrician and computer repair technician to work on your car. He said that there should be some v8 sound device in the car to make it sound like a car. Damn, how things are changing.

Although the car has a nice sleazy Quebec look to it (on the rusty side), I'd have this car completely restored in a heartbeat. Nothing wrong with a beautiful vehicle with a trashy edge to it. This is the car you add those Thrush mufflers to or put lakers out the side.

So worth restoring. What a cruiser. I like how the dog-dish hubcaps were never swapped out. I like it just like that. It's sad that by 1953, the classic Ford flathead 8 was perfected, and then it was discontinued the next year. My parents wedding car was '54 Mainline 2-door. My father put skirts, spinners, whitewalls, and dual antenna's on it. It looked nice! One of the few early cars he has pictures of.

I had a 54 4door sedan Y-block, 3spd with overdrive back when I was 16. Paid $75 for it. Replaced the u-joints and relined the shoes-- the replacement brake material even came with rivets. I don't recall the exact price for the liners but it was certainly less than $5 per wheel or I wouldn't have been able to buy them. I found a headlight ring on a derelict about 15 miles away to replace the only missing piece on the car. Paid the man $2 for it. It was even the same aquamarine bluish/green color. I ripped the headliner out because it looked bad hanging down in several places. It still looked bad inside the car with no headliner but you couldn't see it from the outside so I was happy. I drove that car 9 or 10 months averaging somewhere around 12 MPG of gas and 500 MPQ of oil. I sold it back to the friend I had bought it from for $100 because I had my eye on a 64 Barracuda. BTW, did you notice that the heater core sucks air from directly above the exhaust manifold?
