I agree with you, sometimes people don't realize how long the artist has been creating. Or they see a 5 min sped up video and don't see the 10 hours it took to create that piece. I also agree with watching other artist to learn different techniques or tips they may have that might help you.

Exactly- a sped up video makes it look a lot easier than it is! It's really fun to explore and try out new techniques too. Thank you for watching💙

I do love learning from other artists as well as just watching them create. You're absolutely right, though, about not really having any idea how long they've been at it. I love KZbin artists who talk to us because as we watch more of their videos, we do start learning about their backgrounds and history with art as they chat, which gives us a more realistic idea of what we're looking at as far as experience goes.

I also love listening to youtube artists because you get so much more perspective. You get to see that we aren't just some magicians that can conjure up beautiful artwork in the blink of an eye! Thank you for your thoughts and for watching💙

i dont try to compare myself to other artist since we are all at different skill levels and have different styles. i think that after drawing for over 30 years i just dont care about comparing myself to other people and thinking they are better then me because really its a not about being better, its just about creating something. love looking at other artist's art tho and seeing other artist's grow in their skills.

I agree with you, I think younger or newer artists would struggle more with this than more established artists do. thanks for watching💙

There's always something to learn from other artists! ❤️ I try not to get stuck in the comparison trap though; that's never a good path to go down. The whole being "in competition" with others just is a recipe for misery. The older I get, the less I worry about what others are doing, and just try to get on with the things I enjoy. Also I have zero attention span, lol. That collab was so much fun and I love how our pictures turned out so completely different from each other.
@AlexisCassandraArt3 жыл бұрын
I felt like the comparison trap was more of an issue for me as a newest artist vs now, and I'm so glad for that haha! I love just sticking to my own thing and what I want to do, even if it doesn't make a lot of sense😂The collab was great and we will have to do another one sometime💙

Thanks to this video, I'm now drawing again. I've doodled basically my whole life, but got more serious about art in the past couple of years. However, social media discouraged me so much that I just gave up. Now, I'm just going to draw casually, and take an art class soon to start honing in on some of those fundamentals.
@AlexisCassandraArt2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I stopped using socials like instagram so much. I never liked it as a space for artists and it always left me discouraged so I flocked to youtube instead, and I like this much better haha. Have fun with your art journey and I am glad this video helped you out:) Maybe I'll make more on similar topics eventually also

I enjoy watching all kinds of artworks and it's important to use that as inspiration because there's no point comparing yourself to others and being jealous or letting yourself down, that's not gonna help you at all. Instead I focus on the things that I like and would like to try and turn that negativity into inspiration. Luckily since the beginning I've only compared my art with my older art so I it hasn't been a problem for me. I'd even say comparing only to your own work helps more because you can see how much you've improved and what needs more work

I'm glad you find enjoyment in others artwork! I am always mesmerized by it. Sometimes, I compare my current art to art from 5 years ago and the difference is insane, so I agree with you there. Thanks for watching!

Hey i'm not an artist but when i had a streetwear clothing brand i kind of felt the same way, I would follow other brands and try to link with other owners since i was starting out. I used to try and compare my "concepts" with what they have released and most of these brands were at least 2-3 years older and i was just a beginner trying to figure everything out on my own. The best thing i found is to sometimes step away from the "showcase" and like you said it's best to create your own style and not to copy a bigger brand because they are successful. What some don't know is most of these brands had big teams running the artwork. production, and social media and i was just a one man army starting from scratch. Doing that helped me mentally and just motivated me to "put out something" wether it had a lot of positive feedback or not! edit: I wanna add that i agree it's better to compare your own work to yourself rather than others
@AlexisCassandraArt3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, like as a beginner you are looking up to a lot of people but its also hard to figure out your own individual style. I think it is just a journey and takes time to really becoming comfortable with your own style/develop the style in the first place. Thank you for all your thoughts :)

Thanks for sharing I feel like these videos help keep me in check. I can get really caught up with what I’m doing that I can get a little over the top if you get what I mean. I’m one of the best Rocket League Players in the world and there’s no way I would have gotten there without some form of genuine enjoyment of the game combined with some healthy comparison to the people I looked up to at the time. I had a goal whether it was intentional or not and the end result was being better than I was yesterday and if it wasn’t improvement it was just enjoying myself. Sometimes me enjoying myself actually was a catalyst for me getting better because I was still playing and getting better, but I’m having fun doing it. I didn’t beat myself up for not being perfect because I was having so much fun. Me from 6 years ago would be astonished at where I’ve gotten, but if me from 6 years ago looked at me and just gave up at the idea of getting to future me’s level it would have never happened.
@AlexisCassandraArt3 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean. It can be easy to get caught up for sure. Nobody is ever perfect, and its always better to strive for progress than perfection, so I try not to get down on myself if I make a mistake or don't love an artwork as much as I hoped I would. Thank you for watching and for your input💙

Great video! Also just to add my pov I think it's so important to check ur own artworks first and find the mistakes.but offcourse u need to hv a lot of data points(reference) in ur memory to figure out the faults or things ur artwork is missing. And IG will help u in that.😅Also I think it's good idea to hv ur favourite artist and if u find his works interesting, try to break down his process and learn step after step.

Yes, its good to figure out where you may have areas of improvement in your artwork. I have had quite a few favorite artists over the years and have adapted some of their techniques or learned from their tutorials as well:)

How about Neeyellow ? His work is too good to be true. Unfortunately he previously said goodbye for Hyperrealism few weeks ago.

I forgot to mention him, but I have been following him for a few years and he is amazing with hyperrealism. I know he has talked about changing his trajectory more than once, but I also appreciate the patience he must have to complete the work that he did. I learned some things from his tutorial videos as well.

Alexis before my social media was hacked and all my pics stolen I would post the stages a lot of the time to the final piece. Also I hate when someone says I am talented because that takes away from all the time and effort I put in to learn the medium on that support. Hell it even takes a child time to learn how to use crayons. Anyway cheers from Colorado.
@AlexisCassandraArt3 жыл бұрын
I am so sorry that you got hacked. That is something that really scares me about social media. I love that you posted works in progress though. I know that "talented" is meant to be a compliment but I understand how it doesn't really take into consideration the work required. Thank you for watching!
@travisnobleart3 жыл бұрын
Heh, even comparing to yourself could be tricky. Sometimes signs of improvement is not what we need. If I feel I have gotten worse not better, perhaps that's due to experimenting more. As an example my pencil sketches had degraded because I stopped relying on using an eraser to fix them. Being able to draw a sketch without erasing is something I highly value, so it would be an improvement that would not be so clear appearancewise. Well, everything to a degree has some sort of abstractness in their measurement. I think it's good to measure yourself in order to motivate you forward, but the data should never be something to cling onto. That would defeat the purpose and hold you back.
@AlexisCassandraArt3 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I see what you're saying. In the last maybe 1.5 years or so I have been experimenting with my art more. Before I stuck to portraits and the occasional animal, but I decided I wanted to try new things/new mediums and of course my art wasn't as "good" as it was before because I was learning something new. I think its worth it though and I have improved over time with trying new things as well:) Sometimes you have to measure improvements in a different way rather than just technical. I agree and thanks for your input!

For my mental health I’m happy not to have an IG account. Although I could be wrong, I feel like I would be glued to my phone if I had IG. I am a member of two coloring groups on FB and everyone is kind and generous towards everyone’s colored pages. Also, whilst I enjoy looking at other people’s art, I don’t compare myself to them. I want to get better for myself, and because of my own attitude I take my time and I’m not critical of myself (or not too critical). I think this sense of zen and mellowing comes with experience and age. Also, I like to try out different medium. Like you, I get bored using one product. I switch between alcohol markers (although I haven’t given them much love recently), colored pencils, watercolor pencils, Inktense pencils, etc. I’m not a ‘from scratch artist’, I color coloring pages and I want to improve my coloring.

Social media can be rough and addicting! I am glad you are part of some facebook groups that are wholesome though. It's great to be able to enjoy others art in a positive way while focusing on your own journey. I love that you use so many mediums too, its so much fun to learn new techniques and diversify your artwork that way~ thanks for watching:)

3:26 Everyone always talks about this and like I get it But no one talks about the opposite problem ;v; i see people who improve so much faster than me and I feel totally pathetic. I've been doing this for almost 20 years. And then so many people just surpass me so quickly. Its so discouraging. If I didnt have a literal need and drive to create art I'd probably have just quit by now... :/ 5:34 But my style is objectively inferior ; v ; 6:25 I can tell u it doesnt get much better as u do it longer All that happens is you just do the opposite and think "man theyve been doing it for so much less time than me and theyve already completely surpassed me, I am a *disgrace*"
@AlexisCassandraArt Жыл бұрын
I say that if you love creating art, then definitely keep doing it:) Sometimes art is just an expression of our creativity at the moment I suppose. It could explain why some days we have the sudden urge to create something very specific, but we don't feel that way the next day. No need to be too self-critical of something you truly enjoy, and try not to get discouraged by others-life is too short! I've often taken tips/guidelines/techniques from others to improve certain skills in art, and I think it's definitely useful to compare in that way as well!
