Beau Hill deserves a shout out for his work in this album. The sound of pearcys voice and the guitars will always stand the test of time. It’s killer from start to end!!!

This is a great album in Ratt's discography. Back then, to me, they stood out as having a heavier sound compared to their contemporaries.

@@jaredmoen9114 well said . I actually prefer reach for the sky over dancing and detonator , reach gets a bad rap , but I think it’s their most underrated album . They stretched out a bit more on that record and I dig it. Ratts first 5 albums are all killer though , yeah they had some average songs here and there but the majority of the tunes on their first 5 records are top notch classic hard rocking staples … such a great band , wayyyy better that the extremely overrated Motley Crue

Nice review. RATT was my introduction to the heavy metal genre. I was about 11 at the time Out of the Cellar came out. My older cousin played that and Quiet Riot's Metal Health album and I preferred RATT over it. I then bought all the RATT albums on cassette and played them until the tapes were worn. Having to think back, this album edges out their freshman release. Give it All and Lay it Down as well as the opening track, were my favorites off of this album. Love to see their catalog get a remastering some day. I have a few greatest hits albums that got the treatment but like to see the albums get that kind of attention as they deserve it.

For me, this album has gotten better with time. Not as strong as Out of The Cellar, but as you said John….. it has some great deep cuts. Between The Eyes and What You Give Is What You Get stand out. Always liked You’re In Love from the moment I heard it. Lay It Down is one that has grown on me. Don’t remember liking it as much as I do now. What an opening riff to that song. I remember hearing Beau Hill talk about hearing that riff from Warren the first time and how blown away he was by it. It had to be the first single, in his opinion. Great sophomore album. After this album, it was a steady decline for Ratt in terms of albums, in my view.

I personally like Out of the Cellar just a tad better , I always thought that RATT stood out amongst their peers because they at times sounded more traditional heavy metal than the poppier sounds of post Shout at the Devil Motley Crue or Dokken or Poison or Bon Jovi etc…

Pearcy was mates with Eddie and a guitar player so it makes sense he could write a van halen influenced riff but I didn't realise it wasn't Crosby Demartini either, I still remember the first time I heard it at my mates when it had just been released over here in Australia and he had bought the Cure close to me 7 inch and I had to sit through that first.

i have out of the cellar very good production considering its a metal album. metal albums from that era suffer from lack of low end. bass drum is very low. sonic low end is missing. very compressed. im a fan of bass in recordings got to have it!
@LairoftheAlchemist
@LairoftheAlchemist Жыл бұрын
I know what you mean about low end, metal in general seems to be very bad at having good low end. I listen to some electronic music occasionally and I'm always surprised at how much bottom end there is in that style, then I listen to a metal album and it disappears.

@@LairoftheAlchemist last nite i had guns n roses appetite for destruction on the turntable. terrible sound quality! plenty of low end this time its the highs. cymbals buried in the guitars! and i could hear they even fade in and out. i do have the cd version. if the cd version is good that could mean the stampers were crap!
